Each of the 12 players that eventually make Team USA’s Olympic team will almost certainly come from this 41-player pool. It features 13 players who previously had Olympic experience, including both Heat (super)stars Bam Adebayo and Jimmy Butler, who played for Team USA in the Olympics in 2020 and 2016, respectively. The other two Heat players on the list are Duncan Robinson and Tyler Herro, both of whom have not made an All-Star team yet in their brief NBA careers.
Herro, 23, has averaged 18.0 points, 4.9 rebounds and 3.6 assists in his career, shooting 43.9 percent from the floor, 38.5 percent from 3-point range and 87.3 percent from the free-throw line. Robinson, 29, has averaged 11.4 points on 43.3 percent shooting for his career, though he’s canned 40.0 percent of his 7.3 3-pointers per game and is one of the best shooters in the sport.
Other players on the list who have yet to make an All-Star team include: Derrick White (Celtics), Austin Reaves (Lakers)–who was a part of Team USA’s 2023 FIBA World Cup team–and reigning-champ Aaron Gordon (Nuggets), among others.
Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra is expected to be a part of the assistant coaches alongside Gonzaga head coach Mark Few and Clippers head coach Tyronn Lue. Warriors head coach Steve Kerr will remain as Team USA’s head man.
This player pool will be dwindled down to 12 players by the time summer rolls around. But it’s encouraging the Heat to have four players crack the initial 41-player list, headlined by former Heat player LeBron James, Stephen Curry and reigning MVP Joel Embiid. The Heat and Celtics are the only two franchises with at least four players on this list; the Clippers and Lakers are the only others with at least three.
Team USA announced that its initial showcase game will be against Canada in Las Vegas, Nev., on July 10 at 10:30 p.m. EST. The 2024 Paris Olympics will begin on July 26, where Team USA will look to earn its 5th consecutive Gold Medal.
