Haywood Highsmith reportedly struck an individual who was assisting another driver stranded on the road Tuesday night following the Miami Heat’s win against the Orlando Magic.
The victim is in critical condition and has sustained a partial amputation of his leg.
The Heat organization released a statement following the incident:
“Our hearts go out to those who were injured. We will have no further comment at this time.”
Something like this can really take a toll from a mental aspect to a guy like Highsmith. It seems like a “wrong place at the wrong time” kind of situation, but not many more details have been released.
Heat’s Highsmith got out of the accident uninjured and without any legal trouble.

He was listed as OUT yesterday in the win against the San Antonio Spurs for what was listed as ‘personal reasons’. It is unclear when he will be back with the team, but Heat insider Barry Jackson did indicate he expects him to return at some point.

Another story that put things in perspective. Praying the guy that was hit recovers well. And so do Haywood. Its gonna stick with you knowing you were part of altering the course of another person’s life badly. Stay safe everyone.
Very sad, could happen to anyone. Once I was driving and someone walking on the sidewalk kind of tripped and fell sideways and I didn’t miss him by much. Your life can change in a second.

Wow! That is tough for everyone involved.
