Bam Adebayo makes 2023-24 All-Defensive First Team

Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo has been voted onto the All-Defensive first team for the 2023-24 season, the league announced Tuesday.

Joining him on the first team were the two finalists for Defensive Player of the Year–Minnesota’s Rudy Gobert, who won the award, and San Antonio Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama–as well as Los Angeles’ Anthony Davis and New Orleans’ Herb Jones.

Adebayo earned 73 first-place votes and 22 second-place votes. A total of 18 players earned first-place votes, including Oklahoma City’s Lugentz Dort and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Milwaukee’s Giannis Antetokounmpo and Boston’s Jaylen Brown–none of which made either the first- or second-team.

Here is the complete vote tally, per the league.

It marks the first time in his career that Adebayo, 26, has made the first team, earning second-team honors in four consecutive seasons from 2019-23. He also becomes the third player in franchise history to earn first-team All-Defense honors, joining LeBron James (three times with Heat) and Alonzo Mourning (twice).

This comes after Adebayo finished third in Defensive Player of the Year voting for the first time of his seven-year career. He finished in the top-5 for the award from 2019-23 as well.

heat for life

do we want kat hes not needed in minn

SunManFromDogBone

He doesn’t fit Heat Culture. He cries too much.

heat for life

edwards shot his mouth little to early.lukas face of nba.

Quayzeze305

Trade up to #5 draft and get Fontecchio and draft Stephon Castle (UConn) PG of the future behind Terry . off some of these contracts Tyler and or Duncan . Also try to trade for Herb Jones or Trey Murphy . Of the tradeable contracts target a guy like Like Hachimura that’s plays a facsimile style to Naz Reid .

Let Caleb walk target a Naji Marshall,Valuncinus, and a Drummond maybe .

1.Rozier,Castle,Wright,
2.Jimmy,Richardson,Dru Smith
3.Trey Murphy,Simone Fontecchio,Naji Marshall
4.Rui Hachimura,Haywood Highsmith,G league
5.Bam Adebayo,Andre Drummond ,# 43 pick

ManilaHeat

Just read Cavs fired their coach 😳

Big_guy305

Kuzma back on the trade block, after realizing they wanted too much for him, combined with the fact that they got the the number 3 pick.

ind doesnt have the butler playoff savvy to beat boston.talented team but halis time is not now.gotta learn by losing in the playoffs.ind will be a bitch for years to come along with bost ny phily.pat has so much work to do but so few assets to trade.not sure how hes gonna improve team w/o trading jim unless some ufas sign with us

2qbn

This concept that we have tons of work to do is a bit much. Does there need to be some tweaking? Yes. But you are making assumptions of the Heat vs this years playoff teams when all we were able to witness was Miami missing Butler, scary Terry and various role player ailments. We are watching Boston cruise because so many teams have had injuries. So we really have no idea how most of this is going to play out next year. The Bucks should be better than they were this year at the end. We have a team with a ton of playoff battle experience. With the injection of a player via possible trade, I would run with this squad against all these teams next year and not feel like it’s an L. Hell, I would think they would have a great chance in any series. We’ll see.

heat for life

jimmy was a ss last bunch of years.lift is gone now just a bordeline all star who will miss lots of games

Reality Czech

Vocabulary word of the day:
An ideologue is someone who has very strong beliefs or opinions and stubbornly sticks to them no matter what. An ideologue will insist they’re right even when evidence suggests they might be wrong.” 😀

SunManFromDogBone

Man has Boston had an easy path to the Finals. Crippled Heat. Crippled Cavs. No defense Pacers. I hope they get crushed in Finals!

Big_guy305

That’s exactly why it will be funny if they lose in the finals, if that happens, there will probably be major repercussions for that team. Tatum gonna get the supermax, and they will be a 2nd apron team or they will have to break it up .

heat for life

ill take 2nd apron team with chance every year to reach finals.think they can handle the 2 newbys in the west.porzi back shortlyboston knows how to lose in the playoffs unfort i think this is their year no bron or steph to go thru

vagibugi

I think they will.

2qbn

I love the Murray rumors. Now that is a move I can get behind as it doesn’t turn our backcourt in to mini-me’s. 6’5 with a 6’10 wingspan? Yes, please!

HHHFAN4Life

I’d be ok Murray plus a big or two. JV, vucevic, Claxton, Allen, 15th pick, stewart etc etc

Big_guy305

Murray doesn’t score as much as Mitchell, but he fits better next to Terry. Also I think spo can unlock him again like his last year with the spurs, when he was averaging a near triple double. Additionally he would be cheaper then mitchell. Idk if we’re going to keep Jimmy…. but if we do, a lineup of terry,Murray, Jimmy, bam with a pf/C the caliber of a beef stew, collins, vucevic, Claxton, Allen, edey, filipowski, Isaac, or a valciunas would be devastating. We would automatically be a top 2 – 4 team in the east in my opinion.

2qbn

Agree that Mitchell is more of a scorer, no doubt. But Murray is like an efficient Westbrook-lite. As you said, he would fit better and Spo unlocking him would unlock a lot more options for everyone. I do wonder what Spo telling him to shoot as much as Spo apparently says that to everyone would increase his scoring.

Big_guy305

Honestly I think spo will enable him, and like you said spo will tell him to shoot more, but he was already shooting like 7 3s a game last season with hawks. So I think it would be around the 7 to 9 mark with us. I also think spo will run him as the pg on offense and on defense he will take on the best scorer of the opposing guards.

ManilaHeat

I like that – Westbrook lite. And with a better perimeter to 3 shooting.

SunManFromDogBone

After watching Gobert, Towns, Reid, Lively, Gafford, McDaniels, etc., how many of you still think we need guards and wing players more than we need a frontcourt two-way player (or two) to help Bam in the paint?

oregoner

I would say that after watching Kyrie, Luka, and Ant-Man, beat LeBron, Durant, and Curry. I’m much more worried about getting help for Jimmy Butler

SunManFromDogBone

Without the bigs carrying the heavy loads, none of them would be in the conference finals.

Reality Czech

Let’s get both!

SunManFromDogBone

The only players I would not trade (unless a deal too good to be true comes up) are Bam, Rozier, Jaime and Niko.

What Miami needs (through trades, free agency or draft) are:
Starting Center (Sengun, Allen, Valanciunas, Turner, Claxton, Vucevic, Portis, Draft?)
Back-up Center (Draft?)
Starting Shooting Guard (Mitchell, Murray, McCollum, ?)
Back-up Power Forward (Stewart, Isaac, Toppin, Achiewa, draft?)

Depth Chart
Rozier/JRich/Wright
New Guy/Duncan/Williams
Jaquez/Jovic/Swider/Cain
Bam/Love/New Guy
New Center/ New Guy

Here’s what you have to work with in trades. Check around he league and get back to me.

Butler: $48.8M
Herro: $29.0M
DRob: $19.4M
Bryant: $2.85M
Total: $100.05M*

* Plus 2024 #15 and #43 picks, if necessary. Can also swap picks, if needed.

I would like to hold on to Delon Wright and the three G Leaguers to fill out the roster, as well as these three,
ORob: $2.12m
Love: $4.03M (if he opts in)
JRich: $3.05M (if he opts in)

heat for life

wow thats some good hard work my hhh gm.wonder if rileys aware of this .he should check in with u .hope he reads this site.if he did and consult with u our team would be better, maybe pj gafford toppin are heaters.how many hours does riley put in with all his accomplishments hes the godfather of the heat 4 sure ,is the burning desire still there,80 years old come on pat give reigns over to sunman

SunManFromDogBone

I doubt he does. He has his own ideas. I hope he upgrades the frontcourt while he’s out shopping for replacements. Bam isn’t Superman.

heat for life

team has 3 good proven nba playhers.jjj jovic unknows.rest cant play at high enough level.if ty would ever hit the weight room and get stronger he would be a nice nba player.

heat for life

had lots opportunities to acquire bigs pat got squat.look at current teams playing for example

heat for life

forgot the one they could have had for nothing

oregoner

shoutout to Airplane Mode. One of my all-time favorite Heat role players

Reality Czech

1000%!

ManilaHeat

Yep. Happy for that dude

oregoner

who else do you guys have for favorite all-time Heat role players? I’m voting Raefer Alston and Carlos Arroyo. Does Kevin Love count?

Big_guy305

For me I would probably go udonis, eddie Jones, j will, ray allen.

oregoner

double rec for Eddie Jones.
but i might go Battier over Ray Allen as my favorite Heatles role player

Big_guy305

Nothing wrong with that I love me some battier, if spo doesn’t become our next gm, then I think battier might be in that role.

heat for life

sunman for gm does his homework.not on cruise ships too much lol

Reality Czech

Birdman was a lot of fun. Miller.

oregoner

double rec for Birdman. One of my Dads favorite players

ManilaHeat

Eddie Jones! Liked that guy since his LA days too bad he wasn’t part of that first chip

heat for life

pj brown top 3 heater.personified heat toughness

Big_guy305

He deserves all the blessings in the world!

heat for life

u play with kyrie and luka i think they can make anybody look good.

heat for life

kyrie was avail few years ago we got a turtle instead

SunManFromDogBone

Back then, Kyrie was a major head trip. Member? You member?

heat for life

true but the abundant talent was worth the risk no?u dont think lebrons a head case.he wants to be the coach and gm also a three tier athlete

Reality Czech

You’re right. As in wacky, earth is flat head trip. LeBron is controlling, but not nutty or controversial. Both very talented, but big difference.

Big_guy305

Seems like kyrie matured, If it was Dallas version kyrie, I would’ve said yes to him because he’s doing whatever he can to fit next Luka. That wasn’t the case with the nets, or Boston.

Reality Czech

Absolutely correct. He definitely has mellowed. Playing next to, and becoming friends with, Luka has definitely helped. The talent has always been there.

Big_guy305

Also it seems to me that he plays his best with a point forward/ big pg, whose also the top guy for team. LeBron and Luka are basically a carbon copies.

heat for life

dont understand gobert winning dpoy .bams a better defender more mobile

ManilaHeat

Its the LuKyrie show

heat for life

doncic got a charles barkley type body

heat for life

luka or ant ill take the serb

SunManFromDogBone

Slovenian like Dragon.

heat for life

him and joker 2 best players in nba.jovic coming lol

heat for life

basket interference wow that was close

ManilaHeat

All NBA team list is out. Sorry no Bam. Get this…third team Sabonis is there. No disrespect but obviously Bam better. Not much but obviously better.

Big_guy305

He only got that spot because all the triple doubles he got .

heat for life

minn fans feel kat should be there spurs fans wemby.where was joel.no mention him.

swampshark

I would like to see the Heat offer up Herro for Jonathan Isaac and Joe Ingles and position the team to be a dominant rebounding and defensive team.
I don’t think pursuing players that would likely cost them all of the team’s young players and picks and have them end up looking like the Phoenix suns is a good idea.

The nba is moving away from the big 3 model type anyway.
That model has failed since Durant and the Warriors because of the new salary cap restrictions and the ensuing lack of team depth.
Unless you plan on being a perenial 2nd apron team then why pursue that model.

If the Heat intends to resign Jimmy which it seems like they do then they should get a defensive minded big like Isaac instead that won’t cost much and win games by becoming a dominant rebounding and defensive team.

Getting bigger upfront would also help improve the offense because more rebounds = more possessions. More stops on defense = more chances to run on offense. More size on the wings (6-10 Jovic, 6-7 Jimmy, 6-6 Jaquez) = more chances to punish smaller wings down low.

No need for them to give up the farm so they can end up looking like the Phoenix suns or the LA Clippers.
They can keep all of their young players and picks and still win by supercharging their defense while improving enough offensively to be a championship threat.

I would rather see the Heat double down on their long held defensive identity and keep their young players and picks than give away their future while pursuing an increasingly failing model.
However that’s just my personal opinion.

Reality Czech

Well, yes, of course it’s your personal opinion 😀. It’s a good fair take. I also am not a fan of depleting our young assets.

SunManFromDogBone

Isaac injury prone and doesn’t score. Engles washed up. Heat need youthful, healthy big or two. Gaford and Lively work well for Dallas.

heat for life

that ship has sailed sun.edey and jon collins would make me happy

HHHFAN4Life

Mia needs star/scoring power. Everything else is secondary and until then no matter what role player/two way C they get it will be the reg season these last 2 years all over again

heat for life

those are very hard to get.we dont have the ammo to get them except maybe jimmy.or unless they want to play down here

SunManFromDogBone

The only way is to get a scorer is to give up Butler and assets. Period. Who you gonna trade him for. Don’t say Isaac and Engles.

swampshark

Isaac had his mins and playing time carefully managed this season because he was still getting back from that major injury he suffered in the bubble.
However he says recently that he’s feeling a lot stronger and is looking to get back to where he was before the injury.
Plus it’s not like the Heat will be trading an iron man in Tyler for him if you know what I mean.

Bigs like Gafford and Lively can’t play next to a player like Bam because those guys are just dunkers they have no game away from the basket.
Bam operates best with a 3 point shooting big next to him and Isaac shot almost 38% from 3 this season. But that is just the icing on the cake his real calling card is his defense, he’s a 6-10 PF with a 7-2 wingspan who can block shots, rebound the ball well and effectively switch onto guards in the p&r.
A guy like that would make life a lot easier for Bam.

Like you said his injury history is his biggest issue but he’s still only 26 years old. If he’s able to get stronger this offseason like he says he plans on doing then I think a player like that could be far more valuable to the Heat going forward than Tyler ever could.

Also if he doesn’t work out here the great part is that he only has one more year left on his contract at a modest salary of 17 mil. His salary comes off the books after the 24 – 25 season. And so does Ingles’.
The Heat could use their expirings in a trade if they so choose or just let it come off the books for some cap relief.
But if Isaac does happen to show any semblence of his preinjury self then the Heat could have an excellent 3&D PF next to Bam for years to come.

Sundayafternoons

It’ll be interesting to see what the Magic do. Especially with Isaac. I think his skill set and performance level makes him an ideal player for Miami to look to add.

And I wonder if the Magic would do the trade you suggested–moving him off ball for a highly versatile big-wing like Banchero might help him find a more consistently winning level.

Reality Czech

From AUCH. What a dream scenario this would be – #3 pick, young players, a strong when healthy center. I couldn’t sign on the dotted line fast enough. I know, unlikely, but still it’s nice to dream:
”But if Mitchell is off the table, it’s fair to wonder if the Rockets would call the Miami Heat about Jimmy Butler. Like Mitchell, Butler is also up for an extension this summer and, if he and the Heat can’t come to an agreement, it isn’t crazy to envision teams like the Rockets calling about Butler’s availability.
Butler is from the Houston area and one figures that current Rockets coach Ime Udoka would relish the opportunity to coach the competitive Butler.
A deal including the No. 3 pick, Dillon Brooks, Steven Adams and a young player such as Tari Eason would match the salary requirements and help the Heat infuse young talent into the roster.
Or the Heat could potentially flip that package to a third team for a star to replace Butler.”

SunManFromDogBone

#1 Include Cam Whitmore + Jabari Smith
#2 Brooks? He’s a bad seed! He plays same position as Herro.
#3 Use #3 to draft best center available.
#4 Use #15 pick to select best available player (take Edey, if available).
#5 Re-evaluate team after draft to determine who to keep and who to trade.

Reality Czech

1) greedy, greedy
2) I’m not a fan of Brooks. He could be flipped. But haven’t we agreed Herro likely will be traded?
3) yes
4) yes
5) yes

vagibugi

Damn, Indiana could get this one.
What a great team.

heat for life

sunman come up with some ty trades include dunc jovic in there those 3 might get a decent player.maybe 1 josh hart type player

SunManFromDogBone

heat for life

what u gonna get for ty.not a very good player.needs to be packaged prob with jim to get back quality

Big_guy305

I’m pretty sure you can get collins for him.

heat for life

ok collins on the pecking order for pfs id say bottom half

Big_guy305

Or a beef stew

Reality Czech

The likelihood is we are probably going to find out specifically what we can get for him in the near future.
From yahoo sports last week:
“In a recent article by Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report, he wrote about a possible four-team trade that could solve issues for a few teams in the NBA. As part of setting up that mock trade scenario, Pincus wrote something interesting about why the Cleveland Cavaliers should be going after Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro instead of Nets guard Cam Thomas.
“After polling several NBA scouts, all prefer Herro to Thomas,” Pincus wrote. While it’s unknown who the scouts are or if they are scouts are in the Eastern Conference, it’s interesting to read that there are some scouts who would rather have Thomas than Herro.”
So, clearly, some value him and some don’t. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

Big_guy305

I Always knew herro had value, the fact that some ppl said he didn’t have value on here was cap. A lot of teams could use a combo guard at 6’6 that’s an elite 3 pt shooter, good rebounder for his size, and a good passer as well. Furthermore he’s clutch and 20 ppg scorer. His defense wasn’t the best, but it was far from the worst. The average defensive rating for sg’s this season was 116.7, herro’s defensive rating was 114.2, so his defense getting better. His defense is better than his counterparts cam Thomas and anfernee from blazers. Plus he’s still very young, any team lacking 3 pt shooting could use him.

Oh yeah, I think you’re correct

heat for life

great defensive player except vs joker

SunManFromDogBone

That’s because Joker is a center and Bam is a power forward posing as a center. Put Bam with another top center in the NBA and they win a title or, at minimum, do a lot of damage in the playoffs..

Well let’s see what the godfather does, if we don’t get one in the draft, then next best course of action is get number 15 on your list, Mr. Valanciunas.

heat for life

what the f is riley waiting for.when your built like bam your meant to play pf.if they cant draft edy go pro.all the other college centers not nba starters.

Sundayafternoons

I see where this comes from. But having been to two finals with Bam as our second best player, I think we can do a lot of damage with him as our center too.

Quayzeze305

Same … it’s a shame it seems like this team doesn’t understand proper roster building in the modern nba. The league is evolved from even the 2022 GSW . Small ball those warriors teams are sand which in between the lakers ,raptors, bucks,Nuggets . All teams who deployed a traditional 5 . Spo and Riles are too stubborn on the small ball thing that the forget to build a real competitor around the big 2 . This antiquated style will and always has worked just get em skilled along with 2 way players . Stop focusing on washed players like Lowry & Tucker . 5 years these aren’t supposed to be your major swings for any serious team hopefully they learn their lesson this off-season but 5 years of Herro hyping I’m very doubtful .
