The Miami Heat announced Thursday that they have signed guard Caleb Daniels to a one-year, non-guaranteed contract (Exhibit 10).

The Heat’s training camp roster is now at the 21-player maximum ahead of camp, which begins Tuesday. He now joins guards Isaiah Stevens and Zyon Pullin on Exhibit 10 contracts, creating extra competition amongst the group if Dru Smith’s two-way is at risk for taking.

Daniels played 42 combined games with the Sioux Falls Skyforce last year. He averaged 12.3 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.3 assists on 42.8 percent shooting, 36.8 percent from 3-point range and 84.1 percent from the free-throw line.

The 25-year-old has spent the last two Summers with their Summer League program. In seven combined games this year, he averaged 6.0 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.3 steals on 40.6 percent shooting and 55.0 percent true-shooting.

There’s little doubt that Daniels will likely be one of the better developmental guards in their system, whether he’s waived or not ahead of the new season. He’s a developing shooter who’s very physical inside the arc, while also being an above-average rebounder and defender for his size. There’s no telling whether or not he would secure the final two-way spot over, say, Stevens, though I do believe that he could earn an opportunity somewhere by the end of the 2024-25 season, should he continue developing in all facets of his game with extra opportunity.

The New York Knicks and Minnesota Timberwolves are finalizing a blockbuster trade involving All-Stars Julius Randle and Karl-Anthony Towns, sources confirmed to ESPN on Friday night.
The deal would see Randle and Donte DiVincenzo wind up in Minnesota and Towns in New York.

KAT to NY.
I don’t think anybody predicted this one.

Still, I have doubt that NY is better with this trade. KAT was a liability in last PO against Dallas.

ManilaHeat

soft kittyKAT lol.

vagibugi

I dont think being soft is his main problem. Game discipline is.

Its rare to see an incredibly talented player playing in exactly the wrong way for his team. He reminds me on Hassan, also such player, when not strictly under control. Sometimes his screening and rim protection makes you mad.

I’m curious to see how it works. Losing Donte sucks as he was amazing in the playoffs and KAT was not.

Heat talked to Knicks about Randle prior to this trade. Kind of odd with Niko and Ware in the frontcourt. That would have been a strange fit.

vagibugi

One of those two would be a part of the trade. (if not Butler).

2qbn

Good point. Randle is a FA after this season, so would have sucked to trade Niko or Ware for one season hoping the fit works just to extend him.

vagibugi

This trade would makes sense for the Heat only in case Butler and Bam stays. So, there would be Randle for Herro and probably two of Ware, Jovic or JJJ. Makes no sense for NY and Heat.

Daniels was a bit of a sleeper in summer league while many were focused on Christopher, Johnson, Stevens. Several of you did mention him at the time.
