While there were previously questions about whether or not the Miami Heat would play in Los Angeles this week amid the horrific fires, the expectation is that the Heat’s two games against the Clippers (Monday) and Lakers (Wednesday) will continue as scheduled, Anthony Chiang of The Miami Herald reported Sunday.
Though Chiang previously noted that Wednesday’s game against LeBron James against the Lakers, scheduled for 10 p.m. EST, was taken off ESPN in favor of the Golden State Warriors and Minnesota Timberwolves (9:30 p.m. EST).
The devastating fires that have plagued Los Angeles has damaged north of 10,000 structures and have spanned nearly 40,000 acres, according to the New York Times; 11 percent of the near-24,000-acre Palisades fire has been contained while 27 percent of the 14,000-acre of the San Gabriel Mountains has been contained, according to Cal Fire.
The Lakers postponed their home games against the Hornets and Spurs on Thursday and Saturday, respectively; the Clippers’ lone home game inside Charlotte on Jan. 11 was also postponed.
The Lakers are expected to play Monday against San Antonio. If that is postponed over the next 24 hours, one could assume that Miami’s game against the Clippers could be, too.
Miami has played the Lakers once already this season–a 41-point blowout victory–while Monday’s game against the Clippers will be their firsst meeting of the season; the second Heat-Clippers matchup in Miami will be on March 12.
