Tyler Herro on his career goals: “I want to bring a championship to Miami”

Herro is putting up 24.2 points, 5.7 rebounds and 5.0 assists on 48% shooting and 41% from 3-point range— all good for career high’s. But is he capable of being ‘the guy’ longer term? (Photo via Getty Images)

Over a week ago, Tyler Herro appeared as a guest star on Udonis Haslem and Mike Miller’s podcast. It was a special episode that featured a current Miami Heat player, rather than the usual alumni that get featured on ‘The OGs Show’.

Herro discussed a lot about his career and future goals as he is in the midst of his breakout campaign. His progression has been the best part of what has been a bleak 2024-25 season, as the sixth-year combo guard continues to make a push for his first ever NBA All-Star case.

His numbers have increased across the board, averaging career-high’s in nearly single statistical category. Herro is putting up 24.2 points, 5.7 rebounds and 5.0 assists on 48% shooting and 41% from 3-point range.

He is also the only Heat player to have appeared in all 40 games this season.

In that recent episode of Haslem’s podcast, Herro didn’t lack any confidence in speaking on his aspirations with the Heat organization.

Is Tyler Herro capable of being ‘the guy’ in a post-Jimmy Butler era?

The fact that Herro is only 24 years old and already playing at not just an All-Star level, but All-NBA level as well, shows that he could be poised to be a marquee name in Miami for years to come.

The maturity both on and off the court has been beautiful to witness for Heat Nation. His growth has gone deeper than just the box score numbers. His basketball IQ, leadership and defensive ability have each all improved.

For a player that has dealt with unfortunate injury issues for most of his career and a plethora of trade rumors, Herro has put in the work to deserve his flowers.

The biggest aspect of his impressive season has come from an adjustment in his shot profile. Herro is putting up an increased 3-point volume and rim attacks, rather than midrange jumpers. And it has resulted in elite efficiency across the board.

In fact, there are some rival coaches that have made comparisons of Herro’s game to the likes of Stephen Curry this season. His unlimited range and shooting has turned the heads of everyone around the league. Curry is also a player that Herro himself has expressed a comparison of someone he models his game after.

Now, it will come down to if his recognition could result in a much deserved All-Star nod in the coming weeks.
