Tyler Herro knows the fragility of being an All-Star

Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro is having a career season and rightfully earned his first All-Star Game bid this year. But the sixth-year guard is more than aware of the fragility of making just one All-Star team — which is far easier said than done.

“I feel good. I feel like I’m wanted,” Herro said, according to Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald. “They want me here. But [expletive] can change if I’m not doing my job and doing what I’m capable of, and staying healthy. At the end of the day, it’s good for now. But at the end of the day, it’s a process for me that never stops. I feel like it’s something you got to continue to do every single day — prove to the city, the organization, the front office why I deserve to be here.”

Herro, 25, is averaging 23.9 points, 5.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists in 35.6 minutes, shooting 46.5 percent from the floor, 38.0 percent from 3-point range and 85.4 percent from the free-throw line.

He’s been the Heat’s best player throughout the season, even though his play has dipped of late after shouldering the most responsibility he’s ever to through 51 games. Herro will also be participating in the 3-point contest Saturday night, currently fourth in total made 3-pointers where he takes 54.6 percent of his attempts.

Herro is the 11th different Heat player to make an All-Star team; Anthony Mason and Goran Dragic are the only two to have only made it once while being with the Heat. Tim Hardaway and Jimmy Butler made it twice while Bam Adebayo and Shaquille O’Neal made it thrice.

The best of the best make multiple All-Star teams. It’s an honor that few get to endure doing their professional basketball journeys. Perhaps Herro can enter the territory of being a multi-time All-Star. But to his point, he will need to remain healthy while continuing to improve as an all-around threat, which he’s done this year.

And the confident 6-foot-5 guard is aiming to prove more.

“I feel great about myself and my abilities to compete in this league with anybody in the league, literally anybody,” Herro said. “I feel like that, for real. I think later down the road, now people kind of see what I was saying. But some people haven’t really seen it. So I just got to keep going.”

Do you think Tyler Herro will make another All-Star game in the future?

These are deep words of wisdom…keep it close to your heart Herro.
