It was no secret that Jimmy Butler’s time with the Miami Heat had to come to an end. The partnership reached the point of no repair, after being stemmed from contract extension talks.
With nearly two months of back and forth drama, both on and off the court, the Butler era finally had its plug pulled. Miami agreed to trade the disgruntled star to the Golden State Warriors in exchange for Andrew Wiggins, Davion Mitchell Kyle Anderson and a first-round draft pick prior to the 2025 trade deadline.
But the real surprise came just days after the blockbuster deal was made official. The Heat would go on to announce that the newly acquired Wiggins would indeed be repping the No. 22 jersey— one that Butler wore with pride during six years of underdog postseason success in South Beach.
It’s important to note that Wiggins wore that same number for majority of his basketball career, including the last time he played for Golden State.
However, the immediate number handout to the newcomer stirred plenty of social media debate.
The Heat’s All-Star and 3-point Champion Tyler Herro recently spoke on Andrew Wiggins being given No. 22.
It is fair for Herro to be on board with turning the page from Butler’s time with Miami, especially with how nasty the inevitable divorce panned out.
However, it is still interesting, to say the least, that he would publicly show approval on this matter. He and Butler were extremely close during the six seasons they played together. Herro’s rookie campaign came in the first year of Butler’s arrival, and he played a big factor into the star guard’s growth.
The now newly acquired Warriors forward also finally spoke on his time with the Heat in a separate recent interview. He had nothing but respect to say on his former teammates and organization, while also expressing excitement on playing against them in the near future.
Tuesday, March 25, should be circled on all of Heat Nation’s calendars. As Butler will be making his anticipated return to his old home inside Kaseya Center, the Heat will look to build some cohesion in the meantime with their new-look group.

Here’s another mock draft projecting Miami having two lottery picks. I don’t necessarily agree with projected players but I sure would like to see the Heat get two lottery picks.
2025 NBA Mock Draft
Great two more non athletic white players to add on to the too many we already have. Duncan, Tyler jjj Niko love larsson
I think making the play-in and losing to get two picks would setup perfectly for the summer to go whale hunting.
Options for the Miami Heat in the 2025 NBA Draft. With a losing record, the Heat should be able to nab a late-lottery pick at the 2025 draft. (Yardbarker)
