Heat are in midst of one of best shooting stretches in franchise history

Less than a week removed from being the NBA’s worst 3-point shooting team in the entire NBA over their 10-game losing streak, the Miami Heat are blistering hot from long distance.

Miami secured its third-straight win Thursday over the Atlanta Hawks 122-112. It got off a sluggish start in the first quarter in part because it missed seven of its first eight 3-point attempts.

However, 48 hours after shooting 17-of-25 from 3-point range against the Golden State Warriors, the Heat netted 17 of their final 25 tries from beyond the arc, outscoring Atlanta 100-80 over the final three quarters en route to their 10-point victory.

We’re dealing with a very small three-game sample, but the Heat’s recent eruption from deep is reaching historical marks comparatively to other three-game shooting samples.

The Miami Heat are 47-of-87 from deep over last 3 games:

The Miami Heat’s win Thursday marked the team’s first three-game win streak since mid-January. This may sound incredibly cliché, but it’s much easier to win games when you … well, make shots instead of missing them.

Over their last three games, the Heat are shooting 47-of-87 (54.0 percent) from 3-point range. Among three-game stretches where they’ve taken at least 50 3-point attempts over a three-game stretch, this most recent stretch is the 3rd-best in franchise history:

I guess the Heat have historically love the long-ball in mid-January?!? That’s neither here nor there, but that is somewhat of a fascinating, random trend.

Among the players who have contributed the most are Alec Burks and Andrew Wiggins–who are 10-for-18 apiece from deep over this three-game sample–Tyler Herro (10-15), Davion Mitchell (6-9), Bam Adebayo (4-8) and Haywood Highsmith (3-7).

There is hardly anything to ever truly take away from a three-game sample. Does this mean they will continue this terror? Absolutely not. Water will always find its level. There are brief highs and lows for every team over an 82-game season.

That said, it’s encouraging to see the team look a little more connected over this most recent sample than they have. Just don’t blow any more fourth quarter leads, please.

For anyone who missed the madhouse in Chicago last night. WOW! Heat vs Bulls in Chicago on April 9th. Should be an awesome game. How about Giddey and White!

Saw those highlights. Amazing ending with that shot from beyond half court.

SunManFromDogBone

They were down 18 in 4th quarter. I saw last 5 minutes on YouTube. They were down 105-92 and pulled it out. Bulls are hot right now.

If this team is able to do anything it will be because of it’s defense, not it’s offense.

Too bad we can’t throw Johnson in with that group. He’s a tough, physical defender. I really, really hope Mitchell stays. He fits in with this team perfectly. Plus, I think he is just starting to blossom.
