Ja Morant’s game-winning buzzer beater capped the Memphis Grizzlies’ 110-108 victory over the Miami Heat Thursday night inside Kaseya Center, snapping the Heat’s six-game win streak.
The lead changed 19 times with eight ties, the final being Tyler Herro’s floater to knot it at 108 with 13.8 seconds left. On the ensuing possession, however, Morant was able to draw the switch on Kel’el Ware and create enough space on the stepback to get a clean shot off before time expired.
The Heat battled until the very end, but were not able to steal another victory on the second night of a back-to-back against a Grizzlies squad fighting for seeding in the middle of the Western Conference.
Morant finished with a team-high 30 points on 11-of-22 shooting with five rebounds and three assists; Desmond Bane and Scotty Pippen Jr. tallied 17 points apiece while Jaylen Wells and Jaren Jackson Jr. both tallied 13 points.
After coughing the rock up 12 times in the first half, the Grizzlies finished with 18 turnovers–seven more than the Heat–but won the 3-point, rebounding and points in the paint battles.
Herro was sensational once again for the Heat, scoring a game-high 35 points with nine rebounds, four assists and one block on 12-of-23 shooting, including 4-of-7 from 3-point range in 37 minutes. Bam Adebayo, who scored the game’s first nine points, had 26 points with seven boards and five dimes.
Kel’el Ware finished with 13 points and 15 rebounds, tying a career-high. It was Ware’s 13th double-double for the season, one away from tying Grant Long in double-doubles as a Heat rookie. Rony Seikaly holds the rookie record with 18, recorded in the same season as Long (1988-89).

ja is impossible to guard hes antman 2.tatum brown donovan garland much easier to guard.bring on the 2 super powers of the east not scared at all
Ok I’m down with completely missing the playoffs. Coz we can’t allow tankers to just get the top pick and waste the talent!! Wash, NO, Philly, Cha, Port?!!!!
Don’t care if Heat have less than 1% chance. I want to try 😳🤪
Me too. It’s ok missing the playoffs. I still take the pick and have a real chance to make more noise next year.
But, no tanking needed. Let’s fight for it to the end. And if we earn it, let’s give whoever we play a battle.
Having said all that… I don’t think it will happen. I think our path is too steep.
I want two picks in the first sooooo bad. We are literally starting our last two picks and one was a second rounder. The amount of talent infusion is too much to ignore. If we get in against the 1 seed, I’ll be locked in, but dang I’ll also be what if.
we can beat anybody in east def not okc
And it is not worth the risk of injuries and losing the 2 picks. Know when to fight and know when to treat. It is time to retreat if you ask me.
That is probably not an objective statement. But it shows we all sure love the Heat.
Take the picks and avoid a brawl that is not worth it. Got nothing to prove but risk injuries.
Welcome aboard.
u take out journeyman burks for wiggins thats a major uprade.pelles offense still work in progress .hh cant play 28 minutos take 3 fn shots that sht happens to much with hh .the dawgs were puppies for the first time i n a while, but they always bring their d to the table.slo mo is so fun to watch btw he puts a heat smile on my face.hes helping us so much every night.he had 2 steals last night which were eye popping.love the guys style of play takes u back to the 60s.
i just realized what a true ss is a player at the end of game no matter whos on him will get his shot off.we need one of them dont have one.that is the diff between a good team and a great team.that being said i wouldnt want that gun toting thug repping my team.what a disgrace he is to the nba.u can have him memphis like my players to have little class
All good. This is the NBA.
Go Heat, Go!
Almost beat a desperate, very good team on the second night of a b2b. Bodes well for us, shows that our resurgence is for real.
beating nba teams by 20 pts a night enough evidence for me w/o wiggy for the most part
got beat by a ss.if wiggins plays we win.im feeling good about the new heat team.just gotta get andrew back in therea closing lineup with bam ty ware wig dav can compete with any team in the east a bench of hh pelle slo mo is as good as any 678 in the east no slouches on d all can guard.bring it on boston we playing u
I’m torn on that game. On one hand I can understand losing on the last shot to one of the most talented players in the league. Other teams have felt that with DWade dropping last second bombs on them. On the other hand it absolutely sucks to break the winning streak on a last second Allen Houston-like bouncer on the rim. Ugh. I’m pissed.
“Other teams have felt that with DWade dropping last second bombs on them.”
It is bitter when you are the one at the receiving end.
chi atl orl not near grizz level no wiggytonight id be surprised if healthy we are not the 7 seed after playin games.
Then you likely will be surprised, because it is very unlikely that Miami could get
the 7th seed. We are 2 1/2 games behind Orlando with 5 games to go.
with wiggy were better than our playin bros
Sure! Wiggins same as Jimmy not nearly the talent….part time player misses a lot of games
In his 11 seasons, he averaged about 70 games per season, meaning he plays 85% of games on average. So, no, he doesn’t miss a lot of games historically.
lol like with the warriors last couple of years difference in this game a ss Mia has none
Lol bro, the math is the math. What I wrote is a simple fact. And it took a last second shot by that ss to beat this devoid of talent team.
Morale victories lmao no ss and is still devoid of talent
Lmao, great judge of talent. Who said anything about a morale victory besides you?
You
“And it took a last second shot by that ss to beat this devoid of talent team.”
Don’t matter if you lose by 1 or 10 a L is a L no? Mia doesn’t have a ss
Astute observation. Thank you for sharing.
It is what it is. Tell us something we don’t know. Are you actually a Celtic fan posing as a Heat fan? Hard to tell.
I’m a heat fan actually. I’m just not blind nor naive enough to believe they have a shot at going to the ecf or finals with this current roster that needs talent or at least someone that has ss potential. Just because im not overly optimistic like y’all means im not a fan? That’s hilarious one minute your writing something against them and the second your saying something totally diff. Ex: the heat should tank then you will write a whole book about them not tanking indecisive ass
Talent isn’t everything.
“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.”
The return of ‘stephen a smith’s close friend’ ? 😆
Andrew Wiggins missed 25 games during the 2022-2023 season and 56 games over the past two seasons due to his father, Mitchell Wiggins’ illness.
Wiggins has an excellent record of durability since he came into the league (70 games per year). He missed time with Golden State as the result of the prolonged battle with cancer and eventual death of his father, former NBA player Mitchell Wiggins.
Unlike Butler, he actually put his family first and was by his father’s side during the final months of his life. Butler took a leave of absence for 3 games before the 2024 All-Star break following the death of his father.
It’s clear you don’t like butler but you don’t need to take shots about his situation with his dad like that.
Butler missed games with the Heat screwing off and dogging it (quiet quitting) in several others..Wiggins had a legitimate reason for his absences. Since hhhh4l thought it was ok to toss Wiggins under the bus, I thought it was only appropriate to throw Butler under that same bus.
Tossed Wiggins under the bus huh. Cause I said he misses games and he does. Now it’s his father I thought it was his friend and Bm situation? Some said he was feeling the effects of the vid vaccine? Was plenty of GS fans voicing their displeasure with Wiggins and all those games missed!
wiggins not 35 year old jimmy add slo mo and dav dawg.ill take those 3 over quitter ive noticed 35 year old jimmy has slowed down just a wee bit out west .u think those injury prone legs starting to whittle just a little bit.when he got to gsw he had about month off.no way hes gonna be playoff jimmy which we got first 4 years.wear and tear will catch up to him just a matter of time
I don’t think you’re understanding the math.
Miami is 2 games in the loss column behind both Atlanta and Orlando.
GO HEAT!!!
True. Atlanta has 6 games left, Orlando 4. Let’s say they both split. Orlando would be 40-42, meaning we’d have to run the table (not sure of the tiebreaker). Atlanta would be 39-43, a little easier path. There are many permutations, so, yes, we could end up in 7 or 8 or out. I agree with all you’ve noted. The main thing for me is this team is playing good ball. Getting the 2 picks would probably be best, but like you say, whatever happens is fine with me.
#7….man Celts fans are gonna get another heart attack lol
Grizz’s lucky bounces halts Heat streak.
There fixed it lol
