After the Cleveland Cavaliers’ 121-112 win over the Miami Heat on Wednesday, Cavaliers guard Darius Garland let the whole world know what their game plan was and will continue to be: Attack Tyler Herro and the rest of the Heat’s weaker defenders.
Through two games, the Cavaliers’ backcourt had great success attacking the Heat’s first-time All-Star, though there was more resistance in Game 2. That didn’t prevent Cleveland’s star guard from calling him out, however.
Herro addressed the comments for the first time on Friday ahead of Saturday’s Game 3, and let’s just say the first-time All-Star had some words of his own.
“I really didn’t take the comments in any way,” Herro said. “I’m a competitor. I’ll be ready to go tomorrow … To go to the media to talk about game plans against a guy says a lot about him.
“At the end of the day, it’s competitive. But somebody who doesn’t play defense shouldn’t be talking either. [Darius Garland] doesn’t play any defense.”
In those two games, Herro has averaged 27.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists on 50.0 percent shooting and 41.2 percent from 3-point range on 17 combined attempts.
While individual matchup tracking can be a bit deceiving, Cleveland has attacked Herro far more than the inverse, though the Heat are still having success with Garland as the “primary defender.” I’m curious to see if the Heat’s game plan changes heading into Game 3.
Attacking and neutralizing Cleveland’s backcourt by continuously running them through multiple actions, creating advantageous opportunities for Herro and others, should be a priority regardless. Though their point-of-attack defense is better than Miami’s outside of Davion Mitchell.
Game 3 will be Saturday at 1:00 p.m. EST. Can the Heat get back on track at home?!?

Pardon me sir, weren’t you the person who said Lakers in the finals? Maybe that was your evil twin? Ha
i would give up ty and bam for antman in a san diego second
Nah Tyler, JJJ, Jovic…Bam is the defensive anchor of this team. And a good 2nd offensive opt.
Me neither. But he’s been looking to get rid of them for some time now.
lebron this stage of career can just watch antman blow by him, besides joker or greek antman best player in nba.hes the tyreek hill of bball unguardable by one guy
Shai ain’t too shabby either

I feel sorry for him. Showtime stalled with 3 min left. Did not score anymore.
watching lukas d feels like im watching unc or ty on d.
That should drive Tyler to do better on that side of his game. There are glimpses of good D but needs more work. Someone said these next home games would be telling…if Heat will need major shake-up, a bit of tweaking and adding (or subtracting), even a management change maybe? As of this moment Heat is the only east team with no wins (yet) in these playoffs. Hope that changes in gm3.
