We are less than one month away from the 2025 NBA Draft and just over one month away from free agency.
And the Miami Heat, coming off a 37-win campaign, have serious work to do.
Miami has been stuck in purgatory for three years–arguably the worst place to be for any professional franchise. They only have one pick in the draft, but have plenty of consolidating to clear the glut of wings heading into the 2025-26 season and beyond.
One of those players could be sharpshooter Duncan Robinson, who has a very intriguing skillset and contract despite a recent injury history that could cause apprehension in certain front offices.
Heat have an important Duncan Robinson decision to make:
At this point, there’s little debate that Duncan Robinson is the greatest shooter in franchise history.
Robinson has canned 218 3-pointers more than any other Heat player at a 39.7 percent clip. He’s the fastest player to record 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, 700, 800, 900 and 1,000 3-pointers in his career.
He averaged 11.0 points on 43.7 percent shooting, including 39.3 percent from 3-point range across 74 games. Over the last two seasons, he’s made noticeable strides in his all-around game, distancing himself from the “one-trick pony” moniker that followed him over the first five seasons of his NBA career.
However, the 6-foot-7 marksman will be entering his age-31 season and will be coming off consecutive (unrelated) back injuries that hampered his impact and productivity.
Robinson didn’t get a ton of playing time to close the regular season and only played 60 minutes in the Heat’s first-round series against the Cleveland Cavaliers, shooting 5-of-14 from the floor and 4-of-12 from 3-point range, including a 0-of-5 showing in the Game 4 finale.
Robinson is one of four Heat players who have expiring contracts heading into the 2025-26 season. Though one could argue that his is the most important.
The 31-year-old has a $19.9 million early termination option, allowing him to become a free agent before free agency; it’s quite similar to a player option (with a few minute differences that aren’t important in this case). However, only $9.9 million of his $19.9 million is guaranteed up until July 8, when the contract becomes fully guaranteed.
Thus, assuming Robinson exercises his ETO, he could be traded as a salary filler that can offer a team $10 million in salary relief if he’s waived by that date.
That could be attractive to certain teams. However, there’s always the possibility that Miami may have to attach an asset to incentivize–despite it being an expiring contract. The Heat don’t have very many assets, let alone attractive ones. Back injuries are always an orange flag (at best) for players entering their 30s, but he excels at one thing that teams feen for: 3-point shooting.
You can never have too much shooting in today’s NBA, and the Heat know that. But do the pros of Robinson’s expiring contract and recent injury outweigh the cons?
That’s the calculus Miami must figure out sooner rather than later. How you allocate dollars has never mattered more in today’s NBA.

Surprise East Team Emerges as Potential Offseason Trade Suitor for Kings’ DeMar DeRozan (Nathaniel Holloway, Athlon Sports May 26, 2025)
The Sacramento Kings have an interesting offseason ahead of them as they try to retool their roster and become a playoff contender.
Sacramento had high expectations this season but they were unable to live up to them as they finished ninth in the Western Conference standings and were eliminated in the first round of the Play-In Tournament.
Now the Kings enter the offseason with some key decisions to make and two of their star players have been in a ton of trade rumors. Those players are Domantas Sabonis and DeMar DeRozan, both of whom could be on the move this offseason.
If the Kings were to move on from one of their stars, it would likely be DeRozan due to his age and his hope to be on a contending team.
“The Miami Heat are expected to be buyers this offseason and seek to make immediate upgrades around Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro, sources said. DeMar DeRozan is once again viewed by other teams as a potential target for Riley and the Heat. ”Miami has shown interest in DeRozan in the past and with them struggling after trading away Jimmy Butler this season, they could go after DeRozan once again this summer.
Of course, the Heat want to build a title contending roster around Herro and Adebayo and adding a star forward in DeRozan could help them accomplish that, though they would likely have to move on from Andrew Wiggins to do so. Despite this, Miami may be unwilling to give up what Sacramento seeks in return for DeRozan or they could look to add a different star this summer as they will have several options, including both Giannis Antetokounmpo and Kevin Durant.
derozan west coast guy lakers warriors clippers.chances of coming to heat are slim to none.,unless d wade and lebron were still here
He was interested in playing for Heat last year but Miami didn’t have money to pay him. He was playing in Toronto and Chicago most of his career so Miami should be a welcome move for him. Sacramento is more like Tucson than SF or LA. He was paid $23.4M this year and is due $24.6M and $25.7M next two years. Worth a try.

It looks like someone other than heatforlife, Reality Czech and Sunman are high on Keshad Johnson. Bryan Townes of SI.com, writes, in part:
Miami Heat’s Next Undrafted Gem Projected To Shock Fans In Year Two
While the Miami Heat’s offseason moves may seem limited in acquiring another star, they can still build for the future by focusing on their younger core players.
The Heat’s shocking success with their famous player development program may continue with Keshad Johnson. On the Tobin Show, Brendan Tobin explains why Johnson’s raw athletic ability and potential can help revitalize the team for next season.
“The final guy is the guy I think everybody knows that I’m really excited to see what he can do, and that’s Keshad Johnson,” Tobin explained. “Keshad Johnson to me reeks a lot of what the Heat are looking for in a project, like off-the-charts athleticism. This guy is like a show to watch him dunk. You remember that one Pelicans game, where you’re like, whoa. This dude has so much spring in his step and what he’s able to do.”
“I think anytime you have a guy who’s going to be on the wing, you wonder if he’s going to be a capable enough shooter to produce for the Heat,” Tobin continued. “In Sioux Falls this year, he was about a 40 percent three-point shooter on just under four attempts a game.”
Even without losing Caleb Martin and Jimmy Butler, the Heat have lacked physically-imposing athletes for most of their roster construction. Outside of Bam Adebayo it’s a valid argument if Johnson is their current next-best athlete on the team. In the G-League Tip-Off Tournament, Johnson excelled, as he averaged 21.2 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 1.5 steals on 54.9 percent shooting and 39.6 percent from three-point range.
perfect nba build u know hes athletic which means he can guard.how good is he on offense tbd.spobot blewit playing swedish meatball dunc and other whitesiders over keshad
Tyus Jones from Phoenix could be available.
Could be Heat starting point guard?
Ty Jones has a defensive rating of 122.3 (per statmuse) second worst in the NBA. If you were to pair him with Herro, opponents would have 2 weak links to target. I think Davion Mitchell is the best fit and one of the least expensive PG’s currently available.
What Miami needs is a dynamic point guard, if one somehow becomes available. Unfortunately, Trae, Ja and LaMelo, which might all be available for the right price, have their downsides. Of the three, Ja has the best defensive rating (114.8) and is probably the most dynamic playmaker.
James Harden, who will be 36 in August signed a two year contract with the Clippers for $70M. If he opts out of the second year, he will be a free agent this summer. In 2024-2025, he averaged 22.8 ppg, 5.8 rpg, 8.7 apg, 1.5 spg and had a defensive rating of 110.0, among the very best in the league. I know several people would disagree with me, however, I think Miami should jump at the opportunity to sign him if the opportunity presents itself. Mitchell could be retained as an excellent back-up PG.
Kyrie Irving also has a player option this summer. I don’t expect him to want to leave Dallas, now with AD and Flagg on the team, (plus an excellent supporting cast). On the other hand, signing with Miami could give him the opportunity to be the “big fish” in the pond.
I know, but he is a smart pass first point guard, which I believe Heat need more then anything else. Goran would do wonders with this team.
From the rest, I m not thrilled. What about Aussie from Chicago?
Even Ball would be great.
Chicago is going to back up the Brinks Truck to pay Giddey. Lonzo Ball is injury prone and has played an average of only 46 games per season during his 6 years in the league. He’s played over 60 games only once. His brother, LaMelo, is a below average 3 point shooter, has a high turnover rate and is a ball hog. He also has a poor defensive rating 117.2.
I am one of those people. To me, Harden has not helped a single team accomplish anything. And his partying ways are a distraction.
I understand and have some of the same concerns. However, his lifestyle has not appeared to impact his performance on the court. 22.8 ppg, 8.7 apg, plus a defensive rating of 110.0 all for 2 years/$70 million with Clippers sounds like a deal.
irving ad flagg klay gafford livley pj excellent team.on paper
Yup. Big time.
no no no davions better
Thomas bryant benched for an unknown sht rookie. What a comeback from the knicks,Very bostonish
After being up by 20, Indiana let their guard down in the second quarter and let the Knicks back in the game. I don’t know why the Pacer’s coach didn’t use the “Hack a Robinson” tactic in the last half of the second quarter to slow down New York’s momentum. He could have used Tony Bradley to do that. By the way, Bradley was drafted 28th by Utah in 2017 and has played with 4 teams. He’s 27.
The Pacers also got very lackadaisical in the second half, making several consecutive turnovers and letting up on their defense. As a result, they suffered the consequences. If they let that happen again in Game 4, I think the Knicks will come back to beat them in 6 or 7 games.
mitch didnt play much in second half .it was all kat and hart was in more than mitch.they went small shamet wright .great move by tibs
But Mitch played effectively the last half of second quarter and wasn’t being hacked.
Davion Mitchell’s big finish might force Heat into unwanted positionBringing back Davion will be a priority for Miami, but there could be some stiff competition.
The sooner Riley works out a 3-4 year contract with Davion, the sooner the better. I have a feeling someone will snatch him up if Riley tries to lowball him or screws around and delays the process.

hes such an unselfish player i think he can get 15 -17 pts a night but hes a pass first guy.great energy a real dawg prob are only one
The sooner Riley works out a 3-4 year contract with SUNMAN, the sooner the better.
If I can telecommute from SD and put in the amount of time I do now here, maybe.
theres not a person in this universe including pat and mickey that puts more time and thoughts into getting the mediocre heat back to where they should be.
More time than the owner and GM? Yeah, uh-huh. Lol
mickeys into carnival.pats into traveling.sunmans into improving team
Thanks heat. I try. Owners and GMs with losing teams don’t deserve vacations.
Riley should be on the phone talking trades, draft pick swaps and anything else that will improve the team. We’ll find out soon enough how much time he is putting in by Miami’s actions or lack thereof. If he says “run it back” one more time…
At the very minimum, Riley should be:
The latest SI mock done within the last 24 hours have the following players at 26 and below:
Saraf, Wolf, Clayton, Powell, Broome, Philon, and others.
I like some of the deals I’ve seen for DeRozan.
It looks like Golden State will be looking to trade Kuminga to a team that has a player who fits their system better. Wiggins fits their system better. Hmm?
“92nd percentile in usage rate this year in the NBA” – Steve Kerr admits he can’t win by playing Jonathan Kuminga
https://www.yahoo.com/sports/article/92nd-percentile-usage-rate-nba-123100942.html
Here’s a few hypotheticals to munch on that are outside the box. I’ve proposed some of these ideas previously and some are new. Combined, they offer a completely new beginning for the team.
Step 1
Buyout Robinson save $10M
Sign Mitchell for $10M
Step 2
Trade Herro for Dejounte Murray (PG/SG)
Step 3
Trade Wiggins, Jaquez and 2025 pick for Jaden Ivey (PG) and Isaiah Stewart (C)
Step 4
Trade Bam and Rozier and pick for Sabonis (PF/C) and DeMar DeRozan (SF)
Step 5
Sign Burks for 3 years
First Team:
Ivey, Murray, DeRozan, Sabonis, Ware
Second Team:
Mitchell, Burks, Jovic, Anderson, Stewart
Bench:
Smith, Larsson, Johnson, Highsmith, Love
*Attempt to buyout Love for 1/2 salary plus consultant position before beginning of 2025-2026 season.
**Pursue trades of remaining expiring contracts at trade deadline (Anderson, Highsmith, Love) in exchange for second round picks and/or cash considerations.
Please don’t yell at me all at once.
bam and ware not gonna work one has to go.c ya bam.tyler in playoffs not a good thing .im sick of ty and bam team.need a total makeover with new players thru good trades.all sound gr8 to me lets get it done sun fax over to your boss
I don’t have his his fax #. Maybe either RC or HHHf4l has it.
I don’t have it either. But I can provide the depression hotline number to those in need.
i have it rc 1 800 no modunc?is that what u have.
rc travels as much as mickey and pat, believe hes interviewing for the celts assistant apron job this weekend,gl to him .hhhf4l prob give u celts or knicks #.i have 1 800 fir epat or 1 888 fir espo
I interviewed for the job but they refused to meet my salary demands. They said I was asking too much with my limited experience. I was even willing to go down from my original demand of $8.50 per hour, but no dice.
I don’t have fax number, thats obsolete. But I got phone number, mail, facebook, instagram and other social media passwords written somewhere on the paper yesterday, so I would provide it to you if you ask me for.
But I cleaned up the office and throw that away.
what garbage service to u use in serbia/croatia ill give them a call tell them mr vagibugi a good friend of mine needs something very badly that was accidentally tossed in garbage.
There is no garbage service in Serbia. They have a single can for all trash in Croatia. But in Slovenia, where I live, we have a specific can for paper and a recycling system as efficient, that that piece of paper is already a new piece of paper.
I may give you a hard time on here Sunman but even as hypotheticals I still like them. And would be completely on board with that new team
a team w/o bam and herro
They are part of the Jimmy era which should be completely dismantled and destroyed. You get rid of one who can’t play defense and the other has a limited offensive game. If I had one critique it would be to get more for bam though
bam def better player.bam never found the ss level we were hoping for .let ware man the center for the next decade.bam will just get in his way
Thanks HHH. I considered what the Heat would be giving up and getting back in return. It seems Bam and Sabonis are a wash. Bam is one year younger and a better defender. Sabonis is a better rebounder and playmaker. (See stats below)
Bam: turns 28 in July, 6’9″ 255 lbs PF/C (Contract $138.4M thru 2028)
78 games/34.3 mpg/18.1 ppg/9.6 rpg/ 4.3 apg/35.7 3pt%
Sabonis: turned 29 in May, 6’10” 240 lbs PF/C (Contract $139.8M thru 2028)
70 games/34.7 mpg/19.1 ppg/13.9 rpg/6.0 apg/41.7 3pt%
However, DeRozan is much better than Rozier.
Rozier: turned 31 in March, 6’1 190lbs PG/SG (Contract $26.65M expires 2026)
64 games/25.9 mpg/10.6 ppg/3.7 rpg/2.6 apg/29.5 3pt%
DeRozan: turns 36 in August, 6’6″ 220 lbs SF (Contract $24.57M expires 2027)
77 games/35.9 mpg/22.2 ppg/3.9 rpg/4.4 apg/32.8 3pt%
Sacramento is in the process of another re-tooling/rebuilding process and is looking for draft picks and younger players. Bam’s salary in 2025-2026 is $10.4M less than Sabonis. The draft pick should help offset the difference. At most, Miami may also need to include a young player on a rookie contract, such as Larsson.
As an alternative, if the Wiggins trade with Detroit is made, I can see Miami trading for DeRozan only (Rozier, a pick and a younger player) even if the Bam for Sabonis trade is ruled out.
hhhf4l and sun having a moment brings heat tears to my eyes
That might be the funniest thing you ever said!
Thanks HHH. I considered what the Heat would be giving up and getting back in return. It seems Bam and Sabonis are a wash. Bam is one year younger and a better defender. Sabonis is a better rebounder and playmaker. (See stats below).Tissues required after reading this rc.
Like step one
Wouldn’t be saddened by step 2
Would take step. E
Hell no would not take 4
5 is solid
Disagree about the title makes a difference you have more impact being a “player” being in those practices playing against the guys in scrims and being in the locker room, he really not taking up that much space man we need a guy like that hopefully after the events of this season his personal life is more calm
Agree expiring would like 2nd rd picks or swaps
Steps 2 and 5 are shaky, and step 4 is a miss step, which deserves some yelling. But its Sunday, so no yelling.
Thanks Vagi. I already have enough folks yelling at me.
TAKE THE FN GM JOB GOD DAMIT
