Report: Heat have ‘continued’ trade talks with Lakers regarding Andrew Wiggins

Earlier this week, reports surfaced that the Miami Heat were making Andrew Wiggins available in trade talks with the hopes of trying to improve their roster.

Well, we received additional confirmation on Wednesday, hours ahead of the 2025 NBA Draft, where the Heat own the No. 20 pick.

According to ClutchPoints’ Anthony Irwin, a Lakers insider, the Miami Heat and Los Angeles Lakers have “continued their trade talks” surrounding the 30-year-old wing, even though no deal is imminent.

Wiggins, 30, has two years, $58 million left on his current contract, including a player option in 2026-27.

The Heat acquired Wiggins at the deadline as the headliner for Jimmy Butler being shipped to Golden State. Though Wiggins’ tenure, while filled with perhaps a handful of promising moments, was underwhelming.

He dealt with multiple lower-body injuries for the majority of his stint with the Heat, averaging just 19.0 points and 4.2 rebounds on 45.8/36.0/73.1 shooting splits in 17 games.

Considering the former No. 1 overall pick coming one of his least available seasons since entering the NBA in 2014, his value is in the eye of the beholder. The Heat enter this summer roughly $15 million away from the first apron (not accounting for its first-round pick Wednesday … if it’s used) and $27 million away from the second-apron, according to Spotrac.

Could the Lakers possibly entice Miami with a combination of Dorian Finney-Smith, Rui Hachimura and Dalton Knecht. Could a Gabe Vincent reunion be on the horizon? All of those aforementioned names outside of Knecht are expiring contracts.

What you part Wiggins for if he’s heading for Los Angeles? Let us know in the comments below!

I just saw what I think would be a terrible deal for Wiggins that I hope the Heat would never consider.
Lakers get:
Wiggins
Heat get:
Hachimura (eh, okay)
Kleber (3 points, 3 rebounds, no D)
Vincent ($11 million??? No way!!)
Some combo of Rui and Knecht, not great, but better.

Can’t see them trading Kleber. I don’t think we take Vincent back, but with D-Mitch that would be a good defensive backcourt and both can play with Herro. Rui, yes. An expiring deal and can play in small ball lineups.

lakers need a center though.

Yes, but they have no real assets, so they can’t get Bam or Ware. They have to find one elsewhere

Shows you one thing, other teams value Wiggins more than some around here.
And maybe this is a bad fit (maybe he’s not happy here), as that’s what some seem to think. FinneySmith and Hachimura are serviceable players, I thought Smith might produce better than he has and maybe we could get more out of him. Still, they are okay, would help a little. Maybe the two will be like the addition of SloMo, or hopefully a little better. Knecht has a chance to be much more. But, he could also be just okay too. We sure are not being overpaid, as Wiggins is quite a bit more skilled than the three. But, this probably helps with salary too.
I was assuming here, that this proposed trade was a real trade offer, which it probably isn’t.

Wiggins is more skilled but also why he’s maddening. He’s been traded from Cavs to Wolves to Warriors to Heat, possibly to Lakers. He can help but if he was truly valuable he would not have been traded 4 times already as a #1 pick. I also don’t think he’s a culture fit here. If he’s here to start the season, fine.

More skilled lmao send me one vid of pro Wiggins in his bag please! Cause I seen a player that can’t dribble dk what others have seen but last time I went for my eyes they were perfect vision

I would do it in a heartbeat. 🙂
