PRESEASON GAMETHREAD: Milwaukee Bucks (0-0) vs. Miami Heat (0-1)

The Miami Heat return home for their preseason home opener Monday night against the Milwaukee Bucks at 7:30 p.m. EST. This will be Milwaukee’s first preseason game, while the Heat opened their preseason in Puerto Rico against the Orlando Magic, losing 126-118.

Miami will be without five guards, including Tyler Herro, Davion Mitchell and Pelle Larsson — in addition to Simone Fontecchio, who had nine points, three rebounds and two assists across 21 minutes in his preseason opener.

The Heat will also have the same starting lineup. Erik Spoelstra’s response as to why was very Spo-like, too.

Anyway, here’s our game thread!

Miami Heat Starters:

  • Norman Powell, G
  • Jaime Jaquez Jr., F
  • Nikola Jovic, F
  • Andrew Wiggins, F
  • Bam Adebayo, C

Milwaukee Bucks Starters:

  • Kevin Porter Jr., G
  • AJ Green, G
  • Gary Trent Jr., G/F
  • Kyle Kuzma, F
  • Myles Turner, C (team debut)

Considering 5 guards plus Simone out, I like what I see with this team.

Yup. He fills a role until someone else comes along. A few minutes, a few points, a few fouls.

8 assists, not shabby. 9/8/7/2, not shabby.

It’s true, Nico did well after a slow start. And Jaime must have scored some too after I turned to the Phillies game. We will see how those two do as the preseason goes on.

I don’t really want to group them together. I have real concerns about Jaquez. But I think Jovic is showing exactly what I expect – not a ss, high iq, solid passer, a facilitator, and can create mismatches with his size. And if continues to rebound well, it will be a big improvement for us.

Jovic will start some of the time and play off the bench the rest of the time. He will get at least 25-30 minutes a game. Book it.

You aren’t watching closely enough. He is on the verge of busting out as a pretty good player. Definitely a very good rotation player, at minimum. The Heat got a deal…if he can stay healthy.

Yup. Now he can just play freely with his contract status locked up for 5 years. If he can turn into a combo/playmaking SF/PF, that would be great! I think he is starting to feel his added strength and realizing the team’s need for him to be more physical and more of a playmaking point forward.

You already addressed your own comment. Golden State will not trade Curry, so why speculate about it? I believe in playing the hand I am dealt and making the best of it and not being a chronic complainer.

That’s your opinion, period. You would be by far the loudest complainer if we had to give up young talent and draft picks for a 37-year-old player and then be crap for the next 10 years. Curry alone won’t elevate this team to a championship.

It has to be the right situation/player. Miami doesn’t need another old fart. We already got rid of one (the quitter) and dodged a bullet on another (Durant). I don’t like putting all Miami’s eggs in one basket while sacrificing the future, the way Phoenix, Philadelphia and a couple of other teams did. That’s a little shortsighted. Curry 5 years ago, maybe. Today, not so much.

I forgot. Another bad investment. What happens when you bring in an older ss and they get hurt…possibly career ending? Talk about screwed. That’s when you realize you screwed up the team’s present and future. Phoenix won’t climb out of the hole they dug themselves for years. Bad GM, bad coaching and bad player decisions. How many GMs, coaches and players do they still owe money after they are long gone, (e.g., Jones, Monty, Beal)?

Not the best night for Jaime or Nico. But, kayvtivrest any Powell concerns. He’s good, so along with Bam, we got Wiggins, Powell, Mitchell, and Dru, so we do have some nice players you can count on. And Ware should get better. Unless the others show something, they are iffy.

Not to be harsh, but he was supposed to be greatly improved. I don’t see it yet. And Jaime, same thing, except more so. When they look good you point it out to me cause for some reason I don’t see it yet. I am not kidding when I say I’d play Keshon over both of them.

I am realistic, always have been, in sports and in life. The reality is this, Keshad will not be playing more minutes than Jovic. Learn to live with it.
I want to see more Keshad, but he’s still pretty raw.

SunManFromDogBone

Exactly. Jovic wound up with 9/8/7 plus 2 steals in 23 minutes. Not bad for second preseason game. I like Keshad too. However, you are absolutely right. Some players (like Jovic and Johnson) take longer to mature than others. I have faith both will be very good/reliable rotation players…when they are ready.
