Mike drop!
After 35 glorious years behind the Miami Heat microphone, the team’s PA announcer, Michael Baiamonte, will be retiring at the end of the 2025-26 season, the team announced Saturday.
“After giving this much thought and consideration, I have decided that this season, my 35th with the Miami HEAT organization, will be my last,” Baiamonte said via release. “I want to thank the Miami HEAT for their understanding and support of my decision as I move to the next chapter of my life with my wife Natalie and our daughters. I also want to say THANK YOU to all of HEAT Nation. For all of the love you have shown me, I am forever grateful. During my final season, let’s continue to make some more noise, share some more laughs, and, as always, give all our collective support to our Miami HEAT. LET’S GO HEAT!”
Baiamonte is the NBA’s second-longest tenured PA announcer, trailing Utah Jazz’s Dan Roberts, who has been the team’s PA announcer since 1979. He has called north of 1,500 games inside Kaseya Center and Miami Arena, which was home to the Heat from 1988-99. Baiamonte’s voice is iconic, with multiple in-house staples, such as “Two minutes, dos minutos,” when there are two minutes left in each quarter, and “Stand up and make some noise for your Miami Heat.”
Obviously, I can’t really mimic his voice over text — but if you know, you know.
According to team’s press release the franchise will be honoring Baiamonte through a season-long campaign called Mike Drop. The Heat make their Kaseya Center debut Sunday against the New York Knicks.
“In addition to the incredible level of energy and enthusiasm he has brought to each Miami HEAT game, for more than three decades Michael B’s professionalism and affable personality have endeared him to all of us in the front office and to HEAT fans everywhere,” Michael McCullough, EVP and Chief Marketing Officer of The HEAT Group, said via release. “His voice will forever be a part of our franchise history.”
We know you’re not there yet, but enjoy a well-deserved retirement, Michael B!!!
