Pelle Larsson to miss next 1-2 weeks with ankle sprain

Miami Heat guard Pelle Larsson will be sidelined for at least the next week with a left ankle sprain, his MRI revealed Wednesday, according to multiple reports.

Larsson, one of the Heat’s most important reserves, left Tuesday’s game in the second quarter after incidentally stepping on Andrew Wiggins’ ankle. The injury occurred after a made basket from Wendell Carter Jr., where Larsson was helped off the court by his teammates. He was unable to put weight on his ankle.

Thankfully, for Larsson and the Heat, they will be getting plenty of rest over the next two weeks.

Miami will have five days’ rest ahead of its next game against the Toronto Raptors, the substitute game for getting bounced in the Emirates Cup quarterfinals on Tuesday. They will have just five games over the next two weeks, including two against Toronto, one against Boston and one against New York.

Larsson, 24, is averaging 8.7 points, 2.5 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game on 44.4 percent shooting and 33.8 percent from 3-point range. He has cooled off from 3-point range after shooting 39.2 percent from 3-point range over his first 16 games. Though the 6-foot-5 guard has been impactful defensively. He’s our modern-day Goran Dragic; he gets hit in the face at least once every game.

Larsson has also been one of the Heat’s best connectors and one of their most malleable players. He’s played in rhythm on-ball within this high-tempo offense while maintaining his status as one of the Heat’s top cutters and on-ball defenders.

Earning some extra money, traveling to Las Vegas, Nev., and competing for an Emirates Cup title have their merits. However, Miami — and Larsson — need the extra rest to not only get healthier, but also to fine-tune some of its recent struggles that have crept up during this four-game skid.
