Another Miami Heat season is officially in the books, as they lost in heartbreaking fashion to the Charlotte Hornets in the 9-10 play-in game on Tuesday.
It’s time for our annual offseason column, where I ask and answer a few of my own questions! Let’s dive into it!
1.) Which Heat players are still under contract?
The Heat will have 12 players on their books next season:
- Bam Adebayo — $49.5M
- Tyler Herro — $33M
- Andrew Wiggins — $30.2M (player option)
- Nikola Jovic — $16.2M
- Davion Mitchell — $12.4M
- Kel’el Ware — $4.6M
- Jaime Jaquez Jr. — $5.9M;
- Kasparas Jakucionis — $3.8
- Pelle Larsson — $2.3M; team option
- Dru Smith — $2.6M
- Myron Gardner — $2.6M
- Jahmir Young — $2.4M; team option
2.) Who are their free agents?
The Heat will have three free agents this summer: Norman Powell, coming off his first career All-Star game, Simone Fontecchio and Keshad Johnson.
Powell gave the Heat a much-needed shot in the arm offensively at the start of the season. But he completely fell off a cliff relative to where he was defensively in Los Angeles, and battled a number of ailments. Fontecchio, acquired in the Duncan Robinson sign-and-trade, had an up-and-down season. He ultimately averaged 8.5 points and 3.0 rebounds on 37.5 percent shooting from deep, including 45.2 percent on 3.6 attempts post-All-Star break.
Johnson still didn’t crack the rotation in his second season. He was the “break glass in case of emergency” small-ball 5. Though he showed glimpses in a limited sample. In the four games where he played at least 20-plus minutes, Johnson averaged 12.8 points and 6.0 rebounds on 60.0 percent true shooting, totaling eight steals and three blocks as well.
The Heat can re-sign each of those three players before the start of free agency, which begins June 30. Andrew Wiggins can opt out of his aforementioned player option and become a free agent.
Miami can also trim additional salary and create an extra $7.6 million by waiving Dru Smith, Myron Gardner and Jahmir Young, whose contracts are non-guaranteed.
3.) What does the Heat’s cap situation look like?
Entering 2026-27, the Heat, who will have 12 players on their books, could have north of $30 million in cap space (excluding current cap holds). But until those aforementioned cap holds settle themselves, they still have $229 million on its books, according to Spotrac. Regardless, they are projected to be $40.9 million below the first apron, $53.9 million below the second apron and $35.4 million below the luxury tax.
4.) Who is extension-eligible?
As we touched on above, technically, Powell and Fontecchio are extension-eligible up until the new league year. Although the Heat will have three players who officially become extension eligible: Wiggins, Larsson and Jaquez.
We will do a separate piece on whether the Heat should give them extensions at a later date, but it’s worth noting that Wiggins will be eligible to sign a four-year, $177 million extension, starting at roughly $39.5 million, roughly 24 percent of next year’s cap. Larsson and Jaquez can sign rookie extensions up to the max, although it’s obvious that neither will actually receive the rookie max.
5.) What does the Heat’s current draft situation look like?
For the second time in three seasons, the Miami Heat will own two draft picks. They own their first-rounder, while a second-rounder was gifted to them by the league as a result of the Terry Rozier debacle.
The Heat’s first-round pick can fall anywhere between Nos. 12-14 — which is still to be determined from the play-in — while their second-rounder (Golden State’s) will be 41.
6.) Speaking of the draft, how did Kasparas Jakucionis play this season?
Even though he didn’t crack the rotation at the start of the season, it was a very encouraging season from Jakucionis. Sure, I would’ve liked for him to earn a little more leash. But grew throughout the season and showcased himself to be one of the Heat’s better point-of-attack defenders from Day 1. Moreover, he silenced any naysayers regarding his 3-point shooting, which wasn’t very good as a freshman at Illinois because of his 1.) on-ball burden and 2.) arm injury. Jakucionis shot 42.3 percent from deep on 2.9 attempts, including 48.1 percent on catch-and-shoot tries.
7.) What will Jakucionis need to improve?
It’s quite apparent that Jakucionis is still very raw in some areas. That’s OK because that’s typically the norm with young players. He’ll need to continue to improve his foot speed — which was the case coming out of Illinois — as well as his ball-handling and finishing around the rim. Jakucionis shot just 53.1 percent at the rim, north of five percentage points lower than any other Heat player (min. 25 rim FGA).
8.) What do the Heat’s other young players (still) need to improve?
Like last year, I’ll expand on this in a later article. But here’s one thing that each player should improve (minus Jakucionis), for now:
- Myron Gardner: Hand placement on defense
- Vlad Goldin: Foot speed
- Jaime Jaquez Jr.: 3-point shooting
- Keshad Johnson: 3-point shooting
- Nikola Jovic: Shooting mechanics
- Trevor Keels: Finishing
- Pelle Larsson: 3-point shooting consistency
- Kel’el Ware: Body positioning defensively
- Jahmir Young: Shooting consistency
9.) So, Giannis Antetokounmpo, huh?
Ah, yes, Giannis Antetokounmpo.
There will be no individual with bigger buzz than the Bucks’ two-time MVP, who wasn’t dealt at the deadline despite the Heat’s interest being well known, this summer. In February, they almost pulled it off, though it wasn’t enough to convince the Bucks’ brazz to part ways with arguably the greatest player in their franchise’s history, despite his passive-aggressive comments.
As long as Antetokounmpo is even the slightest bit available, we know the Heat will be interested. For what price has yet to be determined. However, is star hunting again worth the public shame when they inevitably don’t land the player?! Even though they need a star, I don’t think so.
With Rozier and Powell’s money now off the books, money matching for, say, Antetokounmpo, becomes that much harder than it was in February. Should Wiggins opt out, the climb becomes mountainous.
At the very least, Miami will have its 2033 first-round pick it can trade, as well as its 2026 first, wherever that lands, that it can move only on draft night. That creates a hypothetical scenario of three first-round picks, plus a combination of Tyler Herro’s expiring, Ware, Jaquez, Jovic, etc.
Once again, I say: Pursuing a superstar talent makes sense, but at this stage, is it worth it for the Heat when we know his market will be bigger (thus increasing the asking price)?
10.) How can Heat avoid play-in for fourth-straight year?
There are two angles: Land a superstar talent, like Antetokounmpo, or lean into your youth and build from the ground up. The league’s three-best teams landed franchise-changing talents either after their rookie year (Shai Gilgeous-Alexander) or through the draft entirely (Victor Wembanyama, Cade Cunningham) while supplementing them with cost-controlled contracts.
Miami, still directionless, needs to pick one. We know it’s going to be the former, but it risks remaining complacent with its current core, which we know isn’t good enough to get over the hump.
11.) Will there be any substantial change?!
At this point, it’s pretty apparent that Miami will live and die by their 10 commandments; it’s their organizational manifesto that they will swear by until the fat lady sings. I think it’s completely understandable if you have the mindset of “I won’t believe it until I see it,” because of the organization’s stubbornness. The front office doesn’t know how to asset manage, nor have they been able to recognize what is working, and what’s not. How is that expected to change when the same story’s been written with different chapters?!
12.) How would you grade each Heat player, and their season entirely?
Let’s start with the players, graded relative to expectations (min. 100 MIN):
- Bam Adebayo: A-
- Simone Fontecchio: C+
- Myron Gardner: C-
- Tyler Herro: D
- Kasparas Jakucionis: B
- Jaime Jaquez Jr.: A-
- Keshad Johnson: C
- Nikola Jovic: F
- Norman Powell: B
- Pelle Larsson: B+
- Davion Mitchell: B+
- Dru Smith: D+
- Kel’el Ware: B-
- Andrew Wiggins: B+
These are completely off the gun. I reserve my right to change them a letter grade or two when I explain in a later piece.
How about the season entirely? D+ or a C-. It was unpleasant!
Who are names to look forward to in the draft?:
Barring moving up in the lottery, here are a few names to keep an eye on in no specific order:

- Brayden Burries
- Labaron Philon
- Yaxe Lendeborg
- Thomas Haugh
- Chris Cenac Jr.

Miami needs someone on the roster with a backbone to give the receipt, but they won’t. Modern NBA is soft and Spo, has always been soft when it comes to this stuff.
I will move to the Powell thread or a new one when it comes out. This one is too convoluted. Everyone is very passionate about the issue. You all know my position on things.
powells as good as gone herros here for one more year then hes gone.cant have both on team
Powell maybe yes on a team friendly contract, if Herro didn’t still have a year left on his contract. As is, Powell no and Fontecchio no. Herro should be gone by the deadline. Otherwise, he’ll be around one more season until his contract expires. Powell and Fontecchio may be part of sign & trade agreements or simply walk away as free agents this summer.
Wiggins one more year if he opts in (or at least until the trade deadline). I don’t think he will be offered an extension by the Heat, even on a team friendly contract. There are likely teams willing to give him a 2-3 year contract if he opts out and becomes a free agent or as part of a trade with the Heat if he decides to opt in.
were in a bad place hhhers i havent felt this way since billy cunningham louis schaffel days.pat has to go pls pat retire.
spo says fo already at work wtf happened trade deadline spo fraud
And you ask hhhf4l if he’s a fan and call him hater?
im a frustrated heat fan
youd like the team if they went 0 82 hfl dont think that way homer
its not spobots fault its not nikos fault its rileys fault
You may be right. The whole management group.
I know you don’t think that way and I’m glad you know how I feel. I am an unapologetic homer, a true fan. I would be disappointed and miserable in a terrible season, but I didn’t stop liking the Heat when they went 15-67.
im sick of bam ty team trade em bothbam crunch time bam always passing trade value never be higher get ware a charles oakley anthony mason type pf.get some u mich type players
Well, we are equal on that for sure.
last thing about bam he just doesnt have that killer mentality that all the greats have. 3rd option,if that doesnt change
Sticking with Bam, is us asking to be mediocre. And for those that agree with Bam being untouchable don’t complain about the team being mediocre
If we’re unwilling to trade Bam, then we deserve to stay in the play-in.
Bam has the worse fg% in the NBA at his position, he’s has the worse 3pt% with at least 4 attempts in the NBA. WHO cares if Bang on the table. We desperately need to trade Bam.
If bam was any thing we wouldnt be 10th seed.good player needs help.
2015heat gonna be pissed talking about trading bam
he’ll just have to post stats about another player from his sites he uses.guy puts effort in i dont pay attention to his posts to much .i do the good old eye test.formulate my own views.
You comment on probably 50% of the posts I write and are having a conversation about them here. You’re not interested in discussion, just trolling, which makes it basically impossible to have an actual basketball conversation here because you always derail it.
im a sports junkie follow me during dolphin season you’ll see same sht.enjoy talking sports.
The same eyes that had you tell Spobot to bench Herro and then turn around and say don’t take Herro out eyes, I’m sure. 🙂
when tys on at the beginning of a game few weeks ago spobot took him out with his auto sub he was on fire pretty much sukd rest of game.ty meter up and down.no defense gtfoh losing player, norm should have been the starter better all round player.norms pissed hes gone.riley sees herro in him kentucky bros
the mip player of the year is —–with a post like that id retire from posting
And how about “we can beat anybody in the east” 2 years running now. How does that rank?
with jimmy yes last year showed who bam and ty are that pales to calling niko mip book it.homer btw 2qbn good sports guy we were both on marlins chat room until they closed it down.dont see him on dolphins or panthers chat room homer
But Butler was gone these last 2 play-in/playoff periods when you said we could beat anybody in the east. How has that worked out?
he was here 1 year before ty bam embarassment in cleve
Sure, Guy
High on Wiggins, low on Wiggins. High on Bam, low on Bam. High on Jaquez, low on Jaquez. We can beat anybody in the east to we suck. He must have 2 pairs of glasses – one regular and one with rose colored lenses. At least he’s been consistent with Herro and Jovic.
all luv from wigg this year.ditto jjj
You just recently wrote “cya” about both.
never said jjj homer .conclusion not wigg toe injury concerning age to but who the f u gonna get to replace wigg norm.mickey never doing a total rebuild never $$$
We shall see. It won’t be a total rebuild. But I give up, you just don’t get it. You are unwilling to see the possibilities. Don’t you understand that staying the same is going to get you the same result? Four play-ins in a row haven’t convinced you? If that hasn’t, I really don’t know what would!
u just need one or two good trades our gm suks .brunson haliburton changed those teams instantly.how did okc land sga they didnt draft him. luka to lal the gm is killing us now
He can be discouraged from shooting so many forced threes and midrange shots, which would improve his fg%. What is his position? It should be PF not C. Name one all defense PF who can score 20 ppg that Miami can trade Bam for. Just one.
Bam is not the problem. He is part of the solution… but not as a #1 or #2 offensive player …as a defensive leader. It isn’t his fault that Riley has failed to bring in a ss to assume the #1 alpha team leader position. Bam has unfairly been placed in that position, primarily in a role which he is not best suited for (Alpha Center). Again, he is a natural PF.
julius randle evan mobley jason tatum aaron gordon zion williamson lebron james
I have no idea what you’re trying to say here. Are you trying to say that all of those players are better than Bam?
randle is tatum is lebron maybe mobley same zion when healthy yes.stop the bam love on a good team hes a 3rd option
Randle? No! Zion is rarely healthy so hasn’t proven anything. No! Aaron Gordon? No! Mobley? Maybe. Tatum and LeBron? Yes.
maybe tatum u kidding me.take your heat glasses off sir.i guess than youd rather have bam over jalen brown
No, the maybe was for Mobley. Try reading that again. The last 2, I said yes.
looked like maybe tatum no to aaron gordon u 100% sure about that.im not,ask denver fans homer
I don’t love Bam and I don’t fall in and out of love with players like you do.
did u like jjj last year homer
Are you high? I kept saying all of last season that he was having a sophomore slump and don’t give up on him. You gave up on him, I did not.
no homer. how many guys look that bad and following year play like an all star gimme some names thats a rareity.
How many fair weather, front running, bandwagon fans are there who only show support when things are going well? Plenty, and you’re one. I am proud to be a homer, a fan. Anyone who only likes a team when they’re winning is definitely not a fan.
Name one that is better defender, younger, better scorer and costs less.
He’s just upset that he didn’t get to see 4 more bad losses by the Heat, ……oh, I mean 4 more games.
with this bam ty team was glad they lost to be honest i was so bored with this team although davs game blew me away.boring fn team pretty much whole year.
id rather have randle lebron tatum .gordons a perf 3rd option.what are bams #s if he plays with joker murray ,bams a good 3rd option jimmys a #1.difference is their mentality
Thank you for a common sense answer. I am not against trading anybody, including bam as long as we get equal value in return. But he is a 20/10 guy who can guard 1-5. Not many of those around. But he definitely needs to be a 2 or 3 on a good team. We all know he is not a 1 or maybe even a 2, depending who the 1 is.
trae youngs a 25 pt guy would u want him on your team, wheres bam in crunch time, hes not a weak link for sure but your not winning sht with him unless hes your 3rd best player, with jimmy as best player almost won it all, impact of winning my man jimmys was super high bams isnt, stats are misleading ask dramond green.winning plays doing the little things that stats dont show the important stat.is how much do u impact winning and u cant look that up
“My man jimmy “? The guy you called quitter, ahole and other names? The same guy that you went on the Warriors blog after the trade to tell them he would break down quickly? (He didn’t last season, but did this season).
As for Trae, he does not compare with Bam. And as I said before, put Bam next to Giannis or Wemby, he’ll be a good fit.
bams a good player for sure.a perfect third option.need two better been saying that for years
the way it ended bad the 4 great years he gave us thank u
One thing that interests me about the Bam discourse on here and why I have posted about it a lot is there are a lot of assumptions being made based on physical appearances that are misleading.
For one example it’s thought by some fans that Bam is not a good rebounder and that the Heat are not a good rebounding team because they are undersized, when they were a top 10 defensive rebounding team this year (#8).
When you watch the games you see Bam rebounding a lot, and most importantly you see the opponent does not get offensive rebounds when he is on the court.
These observations are backed up in the on off minutes. In Bam’s minutes the Heat are literally the #1 defensive rebounding team in the league (their DREB% is 77.7%). The Spurs are the actual #1 at 77.3%.
And when Bam is off the court the Heat’s DREB% falls to 70.9%, which would be #29 (Memphis is the actual #29 followed by the Wizards, at just 70.2%).
So the difference when Bam plays in terms of rebounding is the difference between the Spurs and Memphis/Wizards, the best team and the worst teams in the league, and yet people still insist Bam is not a good rebounder.
wares a better rebounder .once he adds some muscle wont be closebam gives up lots second chances ive posted many games about that get a fn rebound.just dont see bam being a yurtseven type rebounder.i miss e reids saying about yurt hes on a spalding diet.i respect wherever your getting these stats but who is doing them how reliable,i just dont think bam is a great rebounder.hes ok.ware plays 20 mins and some games hes gotten close to 20 rebs.
A Yurt reference? That’s great. What did he do after he left us? And where is he now?
man could rebound hes on a spalding diet e reid use to say some guys for whatever reason never given a jovic oppty.kj comes to mind and the gardner also
I’ve linked to the on off stats many times from basketball reference, nba.com and elsewhere. They aren’t hard to understand and tell a very simple story – how good is the team when a player is in the game vs out of the game.
And I’ve pointed out many times – Ware’s on off rebounding numbers are the opposite of Bam. The Heat are the #26 team in defensive rebounding in Ware’s minutes (72.3%) vs #1 in Bam’s minutes (77.7%)
Rebounding is literally one of the biggest areas of concern with Ware’s game. The high individual rebound numbers are irrelevant if the team goes from the best rebounding team in the league with Bam starting the game to a bottom 5 team in Ware’s minutes. This pattern shows up in every game, and it was no coincidence vs CHA that Diabate had 6 OREBs in the 2nd half without Bam playing.
MIAMI HEAT 2025-2026 EXIT INTERVIEWS – APRIL 16, 2026
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8nEn6WjztoQ
Spo says Heat are now highly motivated. To do what?
Be in the playin again
the smell of playin bam and tyler need to be extinguished.time for a new smell(lynyrd skynard).
Meanwhile in Memphis…(per Newsweek)
Ja Morant says he’s done in Memphis as Grizzlies prepare to explore summer trade
On Thursday, reports surfaced that Morant told people around the league he’s done playing for Memphis, a stunning development that aligns with growing belief that the Memphis Grizzlies will aggressively explore trading their former franchise cornerstone this offseason…
Previously, Morant’s trade value was relatively low. Reports indicated only mild interest from teams like the Sacramento Kings and Miami Heat at the deadline.
But a public stance from both sides, if these reports hold, instantly reshapes the market.
Teams that were once hesitant may now see an opportunity to buy low on a 26-year-old, two-time All-Star still under a five-year, $197 million deal, with an average annual value (AAV) that could quickly look like a bargain as NBA contracts continue to climb.
after seeing davs last game no to gangsta ja.
Oh, so when you were willing to give up multiple players to get him here, and saying that he was a superstar, you didn’t seem too concerned about the gangster part.
How about a new article where we can start a new thread. As RC says, this one is getting too long and difficult to follow.
Excerpt from From FANSIDED (April 15, 2026)
LaMelo Ball’s cheap shot cost Bam Adebayo more than most Heat fans realize
And not having the luxury to leave the voters with a lasting impression could end up costing him a spot on the All-NBA team. There’s a chance he could still make the team, and I’d imagine he very well could, but he had the opportunity to punctuate his season by carrying the Heat into the postseason. Because of the injury, he just never got that opportunity.
It’s a shame because through the first 11 minutes he played in, Bam was pretty unstoppable for the Heat. In that short stint before the injury, Bam was 3-3 from the floor and had compiled six points, three rebounds, one assist, and one steal.
If Bam never goes down with the injury, there’s no question that the game goes a lot differently than it played out. To say that it’s truly unfortunate would be a massive understatement.
Every time I refresh this thread, there are more comments, and then I have to go scrolling through all of these many comments until I find the new ones, and by the time I find the new ones, there’s more new comments and I have to start all over again. Dang!

LOL. A true sign for what a mess this season has been. The highest level of fan excitement and engagement comes when the season is finally over
wilbon trying to push giannis on gsw thats a scary thought
They gonna push him to GS SA NY. It’s what the media does whenever a star player has Mia as a destination, they push them to somewhere not even on said ss list. Did the same thing with dame
if he wants jewelry he aint coming here.nyk clear favorite .we are in a bad state down here with this team.guys came here to play with wade and jimmy wanted to take over for his fellow marquette player.
Last paragraphs from a Herald story and my feelings exactly:
This will never be answered, but the question is whether Spoelstra recognized this roster’s grave deficiencies and pushed for major changes last summer.
(That’s an answer that’s unknown.) Did the Heat need to lose last year’s first round series by 200 points, instead of 122, for everyone with a voice in personnel to realize that this nucleus was going nowhere? Perhaps Spoelstra expressed private concerns in private moments.
But if Spoelstra or Riley or the owners thought this team had a legitimate chance to accomplish anything meaningful this season, then it leaves me with one question: How could they possibly have thought that after watching them last year?
gms and coaches work hand in hand thats a given rc .spobot signed off on roster
Riley knew the Heat couldn’t compete but had already committed his budget to a mediocre/middling team. Spo knew it too but had no control over the budget. He just tried to make lemonade out of lemons.
The team’s insistence on keeping Herro as a key core piece has hamstring Miami for the past several years. If Herro cannot be traded before the deadline, Miami will need to wait until his contract expires at the end of next season to be rid of his salary. Meanwhile, the team should consider any trades that bring in assets and expiring contracts that do not require long term salary commitments beyond next season.
Meanwhile, everything should be done to get Jovic on the right track in order to avoid carrying his dead weight for the next 4 seasons. As is, he is unplayable and untradable, just like Rozier was.
Players t who are not part of the team’s future plans should be gone asap (before next season or by the trade deadline).
Rather than again looking for a quick fix by going whale hunting, Miami should do everything possible to accumulate assets (young talented players and draft picks). A commitment must be made to truly taking off a gap year to allow the team to begin transitioning the team from what has been to what it will be.
This year, Miami should focus on drafting players with the highest ceilings, not necessarily those who are most NBA ready. The Heat will not be ready to compete as a contender any time soon so another safe draft pick with a lower ceiling isn’t the answer, NBA ready or not.
We were just discussing this here in RC land. I believe as you do and we’ve both said it would be more fun watching a young team on the way up than an aging team on the way down (or stuck in limbo). On another note, the better half told me she read that Simone wants to stay in Miami. I said if he was okay with a veteran minimum contract, I’d be fine with that, but definitely not for the $8m he made this season.
They all would like to stay in Miami. However, Miami can’t afford them, especially if the team is entering a gap year and is not trying to contend. Sign & trades for any players they choose not to extend might be the best solutions.
“The team’s insistence on keeping Herro as a key core piece has hamstring Miami for the past several years.“
I don’t get the infatuation with him either he’s a ok player who at times plays above his means that’s it.
I keep bringing it up. When he was in those Giannis trade package then I seen him ud and Pat dancing I knew right away he wasn’t getting traded during the trade deadline.
If one have a mindset that the Heat is building up for the future without tanking, this season’s performance is not utterly disappointing.
Last season, the Heat experimented with jerking up 3s. It improved from the 24th position last season to 3rd this season in the 3 points game. Quite remarkable.
This season, in the 94 feet dash game (length of the NBA court). It ranked 1st in the fast tempo game this season and coming 2nd to Denver in scoring. A notable achievement.
Disappointingly, it fell back from a net defensive rating of 9th position last season to the 13th position, this season.
Rebounding, it improved from its net rebounding position of 10th in the league to 5th this position with Bam leading the Heat.
Most Championships teams rank between 1 to 4 in all categories. For the Heat to be threatening a Championship contender in the next few years, it must hold its positions on the 3 point game and fast tempo offense while improving its position on defense and rebounds. It is noteworthy, to remember that the Heat’s Championships runs in the past was spurned by an elite defense which seems to have dropped recently.
In summary, I think the Heat has improved from last season but not enough to be a threat to other teams. One other area the team has to work on, is on her offense when teams lock up on defense. Though, I do not have the numbers, the Heat struggled in offense when other teams defense locked up. If the Heat has to be feared by other teams, Spo has to figure this out soon during this summer break, It remains to be seen if this will be achieved though a tactical change or personnel change or both.
Go Heat, Go!
Very accurate observations!
The Heat needs to upgrade its roster with good younger two-way (e.g. 3 & D) players. Adding defense without offense or visa versa won’t change anything. Now is the time to identify and develop young talented players with potential, not to pursue pipe dreams or quick fixes that will only ensure mediocrity for years to come.
.
Is Riley doing his annual end-of-season press conference?
What are the odds he retires on the spot?
I’d guess zero.
really? these past couple seasons he’s seemed pretty checked out
No doubt that now decisions are more by committee than ever, with Nick Arison having the final say so. He’d love to get that last ring and then sail into the sunset.
That’s what he said after the Shaq trade
I think he would rather die as the gm.
We can only hope. 80 year olds should be retired, not pursuing pipedreams at the expense of the organization. Owners should already know that. Loyalty has its limitations.
Did Wiggins give an exit interview did I miss
Curry will bless the Heat with a higher pick. The basketball Gods owe us. To tomorrow and beyond!
I certainly hope so. Let’s go Warriors! (Can’t believe I said that)
If they advance to the playoffs, they will suffer the same fate as the Heat last year. So yeah, let’s go Warriors! 🙂
Riley not trading for a back-up PF/C at trade deadline left Miami with no Plan B once Bam went down. Jovic extension was another stroke of genius. Why didn’t they keep Precious again? He would have been better than nothing. Mounting examples of gross mismanagement!
Not having a backup center was pretty dumb even at the start of the season. It looks really dumb, now.
Stupid is as stupid does.
Actually, we had two centers (even 3 with Vlad), but 0 power forwards. Anyway, it was a dumb decision from the start, it was so obvious and risky. And the worst is the fact that it happened like 3 seasons in a row.. Just look back at who played at PF in the previous seasons
I was suggesting a back-up PF/C like Bam. A 6’9″-6’10” bruiser would have been just what the doctor ordered. We are not GMs, yet several of us could figure that out. Why didn’t Riley?
They were more worried about staying under the apron and decided to keep Dru Smith, which is why I’m not complaining about the end result of the season. If anything, I wish they would have leaned into letting Ware play through his mistakes instead of trying to get the absolute most out of the roster. The Heat cut off their toes this year and still tried to run a marathon.
Still tried to appear to be running a marathon. If Ware had played more and if they had lost 5-6 more games, they still would have ended up in the same place, #10. Meanwhile, Bam and Ware would have acquired that much more experience starting together.
Spo is not comfortable having a line-up with two bigs. He prefers “small ball.” As a consequence, he is stunting Ware’s development.
not stunting his height and arm length man is long.eric likes less height shorter armed players.just look on the court
I don’t think it’s Spo preferring to play small ball more so him preferring to play the players he trusts more defensively. That usually means Bam anchoring the defense and having the best defensive wings possible, size sacrifice be damned. That’s why Haywood Highsmith got so much playing time before he got traded. Only thing is that playing to “win” with this lineup was ultimately a futile effort. Even playing to our peak potential, we were never gonna be a top-4 team in the East this year…
We were also hamstrung by only having 2 bigs in the rotation in Bam and Ware. Hopefully we will get a rotation-level veteran big on the roster for next year (assuming Giannis doesn’t walk through that door). Then hopefully Spo would at least see where we can get with a Ware-Bam lineup.
“We were also hamstrung by only having 2 bigs in the rotation in Bam and Ware.”
We were also hamstrung by having two SGs who couldn’t play a lick of defense. Neither of them impacted winning…only losing.
Just to clarify, Dru was not under contract, the team had a full 15 player roster and they wanted to sign Dru who was no longer eligible for a 2-way contract. They chose Precious because he was on a 1 year minimum contract and they wanted to keep Keshad.
rc says would have had to cut kj whos min salary.listen bam is overpaid thats fking us as much as anything if hes 50 mil joker 100 mil.
I’d bet any team would pay Bam the same.
I think a lot of teams would gladly pay Bam, but I also don’t think teams built like Miami would. Without Bam, Miami probably alot closer to the Wizards than the Cavs. Would the Wizards really hitch their wagon to a player who is at best a #2 star on a contender, but probably more realistically a #3?
Agree. Pair him next to a Giannis or Wemby and he’d be a perfect fit and valued more. As noted by many, he’s not a #1 option.
I mean he’s a perfect Draymond Green (just a better scorer and rebounder). You pair him with Prime Steph and Klay and you win titles. You pair him with Tyler Herro and you should probably just save the $50M.
doesnt have the iq of dramond.dramonds a fantastic passer bam isnt.dramond gets under your skin bam doesnt.kerr says dramonds best defender hes ever seen.he played with rodman jordan pippen.dramond s a bad ass bams not.who would u rather have thats a good debate.bam shoots it better thats about all he does better than dramond
I have to admit you are half right about Draymond – he is an ass.
the other half is a hole. “All Bligerent” first team player along with Brooks, Embiid, Amen Thompson, Beef Stew.
Lmao!
Yup. It isn’t Bam’s fault Spo is trying to make him something he isn’t, a #1 option. Bam’s value is as the team’s defensive anchor, not as it’s Alpha scorer.
KJ is a late bloomer. Another 2 year minimum contract extension and he should be coming into his own.
Yes, the Jovic extension doesn’t look good right now. The reason they didn’t keep Precious was they wanted to sign Dru and keep Keshad. Other players made more money or contracts that were beyond this season.
Then Spo should have used Keshad more in the rotation, rather than having him sitting at the end of the bench and playing sparingly mostly during garbage time when he wasn’t in Sioux Falls.
Agree 1000%! In a season where it should have been clear that they had zero chance of contending, he should have received more minutes. After 2 years, they still don’t know exactly what they have in him. Keeper? Overrated? Who knows. It’s a similar story with other young players. Are Vlad, Jahmir, and Trevor players who can become second team rotation players? It’s impossible to tell only by what they do in G league games.
Riley, in effect was willing to give up the season by not acquiring the players needed to win in order to save a buck. Meanwhile, he continued blowing smoke up everybody’s @$$ pretending to be bringing in an alpha ss.
Getting swept in the playoffs really worth complaining about? Precious wouldn’t have changed the direction of this franchise. Seems so silly to complain about this. While we are pointing out his mistakes and dreaming about what could of been….why not think bigger?
Instead of Precious – he could have draft Maxey (many mocked Maxey to the Heat).
Instead of trading draft picks and Precious for Kyle Lowry, he could have used that cap room wisely and adding some fresh talent to the Roster.
Instead of paying Duncan Robinson – he could have used that cap room on players who are more than a one trick pony?
Instead of trying to salvage a sinking ship, he could have traded Jimmy earlier.
Instead of trying to salvage a sinking season, he could have kept a pick and avoided Rozier.
Instead of worrying about a dumb playoff streak, he could have leaned into tanking and maybe ended up with Cooper Flagg.
Lot of thinks to think the FO has screwed up – to pick out not keeping Precious Achiuwa this season as the one….that’s crazy.
Thats an insult. Dunc is two trick pony, not one.
He was good in commercials too.
I wonder if the Greek moved him to Detroit.
curry lasted to the 7th pick 2009.what are the 6 gms thinking lots sleepless nights. especially minn gm
Clippers Blake Griffin. PF.
Grizzlies. Hasheem Thabeet. C.
Thunder. James Harden. SG.
Kings. Tyreke Evans. PG.
Timberwolves. Ricky Rubio. PG.
Timberwolves. Jonny Flynn. PG.
lol Wolves picked back-to-back point guards and not Curry
Changes are needed. Running it back is not an option any more.
That leave us with two possible ways forward.
a) Get an elite talent.
b) Clean up the house.
I m tired of chasing whales, so I m all for the second option. Which means:
-send Riley into retirement.
-promote Spo in GM role.
-find a new Coach/ coaching team
-trade or let leave all vets but Bam and Mitchell for picks/good young players
-draft good young players
-find another diamond in the rough.
-play young players heavy minutes and live with results for a year or two.
at his age the only diamond pat could find would be neal on his record player
Those were days. Some Nealisms that come to mind… the bridge tender cart, “Bills cigar’s in Monica’s vagina” “loan me 50 dollars”, “there’s no gays in the church,” and, “they’ve got glory holes in that place!” And, of course, “Bout 30 man”. And, in conclusion, an Andrew Dice Clay’”Oooohhhh!.”
most famous neal gd
Yes, probably so.
the crossover from neal to hank were the funniest moments on radio
Beat ‘em? We wrecked ‘em!
Another excellent one!
Riley gonna keep his job for extra year off of selling hope alone. No one is coming through those doors sadly but it’s the truth.
The league isn’t gonna help Mia in any way draft lottery, situations with the hornets, situation with dame and the trailblazers whatever it is you name it.
I’m of the mindset that The league is still upset with Mia cause LeBron came here, I can’t think of any other reason than that
Strong comments. Agree with every one. In fact, given the situation, these are the most logical moves.
Yes, but it wont happen.
I think Spo and Riley will stay, and there will be a whale chasing over the summer. Which will probably fail. After that, play B will be carried out.
We are caught in Groundhog Day.
I don’t get all the focus on Riley. At this point, he is just a name brand. Outside of that, our coaching, scouting, and player development have been doing a great job.
I do agree that we probably need to cash in and get what we can for Herro and Wiggins, and let the young talent develop around Bam. We can’t just wait and hope the right superstar is available for trade and expect it to happen. Taking a gap year or two (let the young players play) and bringing in some true high ceiling talent through the draft is probably the best course of action for this team.
Disagree on coaching and Riley. I don’t think Spo did a good job last year. The Cleveland series shows that.
Also I don’t think Spo did a good job this year. Not bad either, but many coaches, including a lot of young ones, were better.
Maybe is time for a change.
If Riley is just a name of the brand, somebody else should be responsible for performing GM job.
He is not delivering lately, and not a single world about teams direction from him in a year. All we can get, is crickets or an old man is telling old stories about glory times.
Agree
Feels like we’re going to be a season late into tanking when the NBA adjusts the rules.
With teams like the Wizards and Pacers getting injured stars back, it wouldn’t be a shock to see the Heat fall out of the play-in game area next year (unless they land a star or get a star in the draft).
All-in all this front office, the coaching staff and teams ownership has set the Heat franchise down a path that is unenviable.
They can hang their hat on decade old rings, or Finals appearances that we due more to one player heroics than a roster built to compete all they want.
What I see is a roster without a star. A coaching staff that refuses to let young players grow into roles. And a GM who thinks it’s 1995 and a team is going to trade him a Super Star.
It’s gross and without major, major changes, there isn’t a quick way out.
I can see a scenario where a few teams below the Heat in the standings become quite competitive for one of the play in spots. And, it’s hard to envision anyone above us falling back, without a major injury setback. I can see a 2026, without Norm or Andrew, where we are a lottery team and not by design, but by merely continuing down our chosen path.
Now, if we bring in some serious talent thru free agency things could look more optimistic. But, by serious talent I mean someone comparable to Powell and Wiggins, a similar talent with the Rozier money, and a good pick at number twelve. If we do that, then we are talking. If we do less, we just might end up in the lottery.
I had a car that ran really great except it burned a lot of oil. Every few hundred miles, I had to add a little Castrol GTX, and it continued to run great. But I knew I was just delaying the inevitable. That car wasn’t going to take me where I wanted to go. It needed a major overhaul. And that is how I see keeping Powell or Wiggins.
Yes. Even though the car hasn’t stopped running yet it’s only a matter of time.
It will get you to the market or the doctor’s office, but don’t expect it to get you to the other side of the country. Ain’t gonna happen.
or Herro.
I think the rooster without Herro, Powell and Wiggins would win 30-35 or so games. More loses, but that would be interesting team to watch.
Riley would apparently do anything to avoid facing reality and rebuilding.
Kawhi Leonard might be going from one beachfront state to another.
The Miami Heat could potentially pursue the LA Clippers star Leonard this offseason. The Heat are expected to turn their attention to Leonard if they are unsuccessful in trading for long-rumored target Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks.
kawhi a cali bro doubt he comes here just like u sun
I ain’t going anywhere. When I leave this home it will be feet first.
Kahwi isn’t the answer. He’s played an average of 50 games a year the last 8 seasons and he ain’t getting any younger (he turns 35 in June). He is scheduled to make $50M next year and is up for a hefty extension beginning in 2027-2028.
But he is still an elite player when available.
The most important ability is availability. He fails that test.
He does. Still, its an option. If you dont have an elite young player , there is a bunch of elite old players. Count Curry, Butler, KD, Kawhy, Lebron, Giannis in this group.
The problem with young stars is experience. the problem with old stars is availability.
My opinion is, you get what you can and hope for the best. If Kawhi would be available, then he should be considered. After his problem with extra money would be resolved.
As they say, “s**t in one hand and hope in the other.” This hope and pray style of team building does not work. The reasons Riley doesn’t want to rebuild are he wants to remain relevant and knows he won’t be around to see a rebuild through. He keeps whale hunting or at least wants to appear to the fans that he is.
Funny, half of the world, if not more, thinks that some praying and hoping can fix anything.
Its the s**t in the other hand that bothers me.
Ngl I would be ok with kawhi as a backup plan, provided we have a good supporting cast around him. He would be cheaper to get over giannis too, in terms of trading assets. Also hope wiggy will comeback, he will be insurance whenever kawhi inevitably misses time. Also one last thing pat Riley probably not getting fired or won’t retire anytime soon, so its better for him to swing for the fences over not getting a whale for the 100th time. Also we ain’t gonna tank or blow it up like I or many other want cuz arison ain’t firing pat, and pat might be gm until age 99, I want pat gone too, but I don’t see it happening anytime soon. I do hope cavs do bad in the playoffs, so we can have a chance at donovan Mitchell, that would be my true backup after giannis, then kawhi, then ja, etc
‘WIN IF YOU CAN AND LOSE IF YOU MUST, BUT ALWAYS, ALWAYS CHEAT!”
~ CHARLOTTE HORNETS MOTTO ~
(Approved by NBA Commissioner Adam Silver)
theyve been losing since their existence.we have to thank them for zo,be nice to losers that cheat we hate winners that cheat like belichic and poposht
Why should we thank them for something we paid for?
The new Heat arch-enemy. Not because of competition but coz of cheating. But i do like their players. Well except lamelo
and the woman beater, Bridges.
If GS beats Phoenix, the Heat will get #12 pick.
I demand good lottery luck and a top-4 pick. The Heat never tank. I don’t think they’ve picked in the lottery since Justise Winslow. Maybe Tyler Herro. Let’s pray to the Basketball Gds for a top pick
Of course, that’d be great, but there are really good options at 12 or 13. But, yeah, that would be nice.
I’m sure the Heat can get a rotation piece in the middle of the first round. They’ve been doing it for a decade. I would like one opportunity to draft a superstar. Sometimes you get a D-Wade, sometimes you get Mike Breezy. But I would love to see the Heat get that opportunity
sometimes u get d wade sometimes u get darko milicic lol.won that one.sometimes u get precious god bless u sometimes u get tyrese maxey.sometimes u get bustice winslow and u know how it goes.a gm is way way more important than a robotic coach unfort ares sks now.from the best gm to one of the worse (wash clearly the worst)
Miami has already drafted several rotation pieces. What it hasn’t drafted or otherwise acquired is a ss.
your best player from israel how did he arrive theres other ways also, however the mofo gets here can one gd be close to d wade we pray for that dear bball gd.
with the 12th pick in the 2026 nba draft the miami heat select i have no clue but he better be able to guard
Lots of 2-way players.
Hopefully labaron, yaxel, or anyone that drops out of the top 10.
My absolute 2 favorites. But there are several players in the 12-13 range that can change the trajectory of this team.
I agree. There has to be at least one diamond in the rough that other teams miss/pass on. Also, Miami can trade up in the draft if they have someone in particular in mind.
WTF? The NBA screws Miami again!
”Charlotte Hornets guard LaMelo Ball has been fined $35,000 and assessed a Flagrant Foul 2 upon league office review for making unnecessary and reckless contact with Miami Heat center-forward Bam Adebayo that created a significant injury risk, it was announced today by James Jones, Executive Vice President, Head of Basketball Operations.”
“Ball has been fined an additional $25,000 for using profane language during a live postgame television interview.”
An NBA Flagrant Foul 2, defined as unnecessary and excessive contact, results in the immediate ejection of the offending player. The opposing team is awarded two free throws and possession of the ball. Furthermore, it carries an automatic fine and two penalty points.
Once again, the league reacts after the damage by Charlotte is done.
So much for immediate ejection. Silver taking no action against refs who were asleep at the wheel. Ball should have been ejected and suspended. Heat should have won. Crooked B*****ds!
While I totally agree about the fairness issue, I am not sorry we lost as I think it’s the first step to rebuild the team. Had they won their way into the 8th seed, I think it would have again created the false narrative of we could just run it back again with essentially the same team. This is an opportunity to do some real soul searching and choose a new direction.
I agree. I just hate to be cheated twice by the same team with the help of the NBA Commissioner. Pretty chicken shit. Folks are all gloating in Charlotte. Hope they lose. F em!
IMO there is little chance that they will get very far.
I hate to root against my team, but this season was a wash and we needed a better draft position. Winning, in this instance, would have been detrimental.
They could have beaent Charlotte and lost to Orlando and still ended up in the same place, the lottery.
Gotta mix the good with the bad, I feel the same, losing the way we did, should let pat know that he needs to step tf up, and make big changes.
ive seen coaches in all sports lose it when theres a bad call.thats on spobot to go crazy on the refs.what was the robotic one thinking at the time.post game conference mr tough guy
He said he didn’t see the play, when it happened, as most didn’t. By the post game interview, he still hadn’t seen it.
Silver Sucks
A third of the league is losing games on purpose and making the league unwatchable. And this offseason, those teams will be rewarded.
Meanwhile, this mediocre Heat team is trying to win, and the NBA punishes them over and over again.
Oh, and do you want to watch the playoffs? Good, it’s on four different streaming platforms and three different cable networks and also one network channel. Which games are on what cannel? Who knows!
If Adam Silver is gone tomorrow I will celebreate
Greedy mofos.
A tale as old as time.
I think he’s a weak leader, kind of inherited the job from a much better commissioner.
F the playoffs. I don’t even have Amazon Prime. NBA is screwing a large part of its fan base nickel and dining them. Greedy b*****ds.
is that the former cane and heat player?the refs that saw that and did not penalize correctly need to find new employment.thats as flagrant a play ive seen in a while.what the f were the refs thinking .there almost as bad at their job as our gm is at his.but yeah i agree dont want to see this non playoff team in the playoffs.anyway.so i applaud the refs lol
GSW gets their feel good win, NBA gets their playin ratings. OKC gets the #12 pick from Clippers
Interested to see the line for GSW vs Phoenix. GSW would lose #11 and a 10% chance at a top 4 pick with a win
Shocking Clippers loss!
Steph, what more can you say
1235 crash time 1 pt game
Just great games!!
phily was totally in control their game.this game high level ball
Get out of here! That game was close except for the last five minutes
It reiterated some of our concerns. Franz was totally intimidated but he manned up in the fourth. But, such athleticism,,such a smothering defense, such unrelenting pressure. They got Boston, maybe with Embiid later in the series. Going to be interesting, real interesting, a real test of some of our beliefs about team make-up and the ability of superstars to carry a team. Probably get good odds on Philly.
You said you weren’t going there, but you do. You’re talking about a guy that had a serious injury and only recently returned. You think maybe there was some rust there?
There was rust and he did adjust. But,,the fact that he felt that intensity and had to figure out how to up his game was also there. At first he tried to flow into the game but couldn’t. Then he missed some layups and got one blocked. Finally, later in the game he bullied into the basket and scored some big buckets. I think Franz will learn from this and will be a better player for it. And it wasn’t just Wagner who felt the intensity, Blanchero had an awful game, as did Suggs and Black, and no one could make threes. The only one who held up was Bane.
I kind of approach these observations like a sociologist. They fascinate me. The bigger the game, the more the athleticism impacts things, the faster hands, the quicker reflexes, the brutal power moves. Philly only has one superstar, Maxey, without Embiid. The rest aren’t great finishers. Oubre and Edgecomb are just very good players, not great, on par with Norm or Wiggy. Edgecomb may get better. Without Embiid, they are beatable, but they do bring that intensity and athleticism. It will be a real interesting series with Boston. And,,even with Embiid, he tires out so fast now that he’s no superstar anymore. But, if he comes back, it will be compelling basketball to watch.
Also, upon review, Banchero, Suggs, and Carter all had worse shooting percentage than Franz. How do you account for that?
Just what you said. He was rusty, even though he had played a few games and scored well in one of them, he may have not played under that kind of pressure before, only one other play-in, so it took him time to adjust. He did figure things out because he is a very good player, probably tied for the second best on the team with Bane. But, for three quarters Franz was mia, he was overwhelmed, and Bane had to carry the team as Paulo was not on either, as he wilted under the extra load without a third contributor. Franz, because he is a three tier scoring threat, figured a way to get to the rim, but it took him till the fourth quarter to do so. Wagner played really well in the fourth.
I tried to explain it wasn’t just Wagner, the whole team had trouble with the high athleticism. But, there is a certain anxious vibe that some players can handle and others can’t when you’re up against that kind of defensive intensity. And being counted on as one of the big offensive weapons ups the ante even more. And (and don’t crucify me for saying this…. and hopefully, maybe because we are late in the lifespan of this very well participated in thread so few will see this) there is even a greater tension from being the only vanilla on the floor that only the best of that persuasion can handle. I think Franz can handle it, but the first time he really felt it, it was tough for him. He is too good to not do fine from now on.
Hot take: I just don’t think Paolo and Franz work that good together, they both kinda occupy the same space, and when Paolo is hurt they play better as a team. So I wouldn’t be surprised if one of them gets traded in a year or 2, but I do agree with most of what yiu said btw.
in the end i doubt they beat boston.phily never beats boston anymore.culture versus process
Boston has the two superstars covering a multitude of other weaknesses, I.e., the Heat four years ago, but even stronger. So, you’re probably right. But, Embiid could return, and if he comes back reasonably fit, and before game three, then Philly has a chance.
Im going to be watching for sure. And it will be fascinating to see how Hauser and Pritchard do. Vuc can handle anything, and probably Pritchard too. But Hauser, who killed us last time we played, and is a good player, he might wilt under the pressure.

My point on those picks was not who will be a ss or even an all star. It was to show that there was no 3 year wait for them to contribute.
