How the Bucks owner’s comments surrounding Giannis Antetokounmpo impact Heat

Stop me if you have heard this before: The Miami Heat are pursuing Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo.

There appear to be truths in life: Death, taxes and that, no matter how passive-aggressive the two-time MVP is with the only organization he’s known since entering the NBA in 2013.

There’s no question that Antetokounmpo would change the direction of the Heat’s franchise. How much, however, revolves around what the rest of the roster looks like.

Regardless, he’s obviously a franchise-altering talent. Though the 10-time All-Star has done his best “The boy who cried wolf” imitation; one moment, it’s, I will never request a trade; moments later, it’s, actually, anything is on the table because I want to win!

He’s deathly afraid of being the bad guy. Thankfully for him — and the general public — this circus will be coming to a close by the draft, according to Bucks owner Jimmy Haslem.

“I just think before the draft is a natural time,” Haslam said earlier this week. “Because if Giannis does play somewhere else, we’ve got to have a lot of assets. That’s Jon’s job to do. And if he’s here, then you build the team differently. I think he always knew where we stood. We’ve had those kind of conversations since the season was over.

“So sometime over the next six or seven weeks, we’ll decide whether Giannis is going to sign a max contract and stay with us, or he’s going to play somewhere else. And Jon and Taylor, along with [co-owner] Wes [Edens] and myself will make that call, and we understand the gravity of that call.”

How Haslem’s comments impact Heat:

This is arguably the best possible news for the Heat. Miami has three tradable picks — including their 2026 selection, which has the 13th-best odds ahead of Sunday’s lottery — to move. The other two include their 2031 and 2033 selections, the latter of which they unlock this summer.

They don’t have as many movable contracts with Terry Rozier and Norman Powell’s money off the books. But a set deadline — one that’s been seemingly pushed back like a homework assignment — gives the Heat time to pivot.

We know they will be as interested as anyone else. They were the last team to contact Milwaukee regarding their 6-foot-10 superstar ahead of February’s deadline. We know the Bucks have some degree of interest in Kel’el Ware and Tyler Herro, a Wisconsin native. Though the value will be in the eye of the beholder — especially if there’s a bidding war for Antetokounmpo.

Miami enters a pivotal direction where, once again, direction is needed. We’ll have more clarity on what it might be pursuing after Sunday’s lottery; the Heat have a 92.9 percent chance at landing No. 13 overall, a 4.7 chance at a top-4 pick and a one percent chance at No. 1 overall.

Okay, but wouldn’t both teams be equally affected? And those players live with their families in those 2 hot humid states, Texas and Florida.

You must have not been an NBA fan in the bad boys era. Dennis Rodman, Bill Lambeer, Rick Mahorn, Charles Oakley, Anthony Mason, Karl Malone, Alonzo Mourning, Xavier McDaniel, Latrell Sprewell, etc.

Miami is also going to wait for that lottery pick. (What) if they get that top 4 would they give up the farm as what other teams are asking for specifically the Bucks? Or build around Bam, Ware, that top 4, plus the others and whatever they could get from a Tyler trade. Giannis with Bam looks like a contender right away (at least on paper) but the other option is a year or two in the making before they get even into the mix in top 5 in east.

Lottery picks are always preferable. You have to tank to get them or make good trades with bad teams for future picks. Miami does neither.

Hey dumass! The process is witnessed. What part of that do you not get? In other words, Zo will know if we moved up or not in this draft before we watch it on tv Sunday because he will be in the room throughout the process. What a looney!

Latest proposed trade scenario:

Heat Receives Giannis Antetokounmpo

Bucks Receive Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Andrew Wiggins, Rights to 2026 1st Round Pick, Pick Swaps, 2029 1st Round Pick, 2031 1st Round Pick

ESPN’s Bobby Marks predicts Kawhi Leonard will be moved to the Miami Heat this summer:

“The Heat would retain the No. 13 pick in June’s draft, along with 10 players from this season’s team, including Bam Adebayo. And because they are taking back less money in the trade, Miami could also re-sign free agent Norman Powell and still remain under the luxury tax.”

Big_guy305

If giannis is too much, I might do this one as well, but with a caveat, gotta get wiggy back.

Wiggy can play sg too, and when kawhi gets hurt, wiggy can play sf.

I know that I am in the minority here, but I actually would prefer this deal with us keeping the draft pick (which I really think would be a good player), as well as other draft picks for the future.

I agree if Heat can get Kahwi’s expiring contract for Herro, Jovic and a pick.

So, which one is nice and young? Giannis? Kawhi? You were hot on KD until you weren’t. Ja is not a ss. Donovan Mitchell would be the right choice.
