The Miami Heat outlasted the Atlanta Hawks inside Kaseya Center Friday evening 122-113, a victory spearheaded by none other than Tyler Herro and Duncan Robinson.
Herro finished with a team-high 30 points–tying a game-most–on 11-of-21 shooting, in addition to seven rebounds, two assists and one steal. Herro continued to play within the flow of the offense in his third game, seamlessly fitting alongside the rest of Miami’s core sans Jimmy Butler, who missed his second straight game due to injury.
Robinson had 27 points on 8-of-11 shooting and 4-of-7 shooting in 25 minutes; 24 of Robinson’s 27 came in the second half, including 21 in the final period, helping the Heat–the NBA’s worst 4Q team–outscore the Hawks 34-27 over the final 12 minutes.
The Heat had three other double-figure scorers. Jaime Jaquez Jr. had 19 points and seven rebounds on 7-of-14 shooting, hauling in seven rebounds with an assist, steal and a block. Bam Adebayo finished with 18 points, 11 rebounds and six assists, despite having an uncharacteristically inefficient night around the rim in his third game back from injury. Caleb Martin, starting in his 9th straight game, had 11 points, eight rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block in 35 minutes.
Friday’s win marks the Heat’s fifth win over their last seven games, moving to five games above .500 while the Hawks–who were 3-1 over their last four entering the contest–drop to 12-16. Trae Young had 30 points on 10-fo-22 shooting with seven made triples, in addition to 13 assists and six turnovers. Dejounte Murray had 24 points, eight rebounds, six assists and three steals, converting on 10 of his 20 field goal attempts.
Bogdan Bogdanovic dazzled in the first half, but cooled off over the final 24. He had 23 points on 8-of-24 shooting and 6-of-18 from beyond the arc, dishing out five assists with two boards. Saddiq Bey had 16 points and 10 rebounds–tying a team-high–in a game-high 40 minutes.
Both teams shot fairly good from the floor; the Heat knocked down 46.5 percent of their attempts (17-39; 43.6 percent) from 3-point range while the Hawks shot 43.8 percent and 19-of-54 (35.2 percent) from deep. Though the Heat were very inefficient around the rim, shooting 3-of-8, despite going 15-26 on non-restricted-area 2s (57.7 percent), according to NBA stats.
Next up: The Heat will take on the scorching-hot Philadelphia 76ers, led by reigning MVP Joel Embiid, who’s on track to lead the NBA in scoring for the third straight season.

Let’s win our christmas game! Take care and enjoy ur holiday everyone!
Merry Christmas to everyone and Happy holidays to those celebrating other events. One thing has struck me in the past few days on the streets of Earth. People are less self conscious, smiling, happy even though they are as busy as hell as the year draws to an end. Why do we need this season to loosen up instead of being nicer to everyone each day we are alive?
SPITBALLIN
Kyle Lowry ($29.7M expiring contract) for Collin Sexton ($17.3M*) + Kelly Olynyk ($12.2M)
* Sexton has three year contract. Olynyk’s contract is expiring.
$$$ matches but Jazz I think won’t bite that. Unless DWade intervenes 😜
Interesting option.

Butler (calf) did not participate in Miami’s practice Sunday, Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports. Amid a two-game absence due to a left calf strain, Butler failing to practice Sunday doesn’t bode well for his availability Monday against Philadelphia. An injury update will emerge Sunday afternoon, but Butler’s status for Monday’s Christmas showdown is murky.
Looks like Next Man Up: I guess JJJ will be starting against 76ers tomorrow.
Happy Holidays to all!
GO HEAT!!!

😬
To all, Merry Christmas Eve and Christmas or whatever you may celebrate. My family activities are today, so we’ll definitely be here for the Sixers game. And the tv will be on today for the Dolphins.
My activities, family and others, started at the beginning of December and will end well into January. Christmas is just one, not particularly important stage in this journey.
All the best to you and everybody posting here.
Did not know Hawks’ top 3 in offense and they’re still below .500. Heat climbed at #5 as NY lost to Milw. It’s good we have 2 games off before a big exam vs Philly. Mia need to keep either Joel or Maxey in check. Or both? Heat have the tools to do so.
From Coup’s Notebook discussing improved defense by Herro and Duncan. And he doesn’t draw a paycheck from the Heat or the network:
”But there are also indications that Herro and Robinson have improved. Herro is averaging a career-high 1.3 steals per game because he’s clearly hunting weakside deflections, and after years of ranking near the bottom of the league in isolation defense, Herro is allowing just 0.93 points per (albeit on just 31 possession due to missed time with an ankle injury) while Robinson (51 possessions) is at 0.84 – numbers that put them much closer to average than they’ve ever been before.”
From our own HHH writer Dan Riccio in November:
”Last year’s playoff run was different though for Robinson. With both Tyler Herro and Victor Oladipo suffering season ending injuries, Robinson found himself part of the everyday rotation again when it mattered most.
What has shocked a lot of Heat fans from last season in the playoffs specifically, is that Robinson has put in the work behind the scenes to develop into a much more well rounded player.
There were glimpses of him being able to put the ball down on the floor and attack the rim. He showcased the ability to not just finish himself but also play make for others, whether it was lobs to guys like Bam Adebayo or dribble hand offs.”
And:
”Maybe the most important thing to note is the improved defense. He has been able to hold his own pretty well on that end.
It is clear Robinson worked hard off the court to develop his game more, and it is still paying off to this very day.”
theyve both improved ty looks like he can hold his own until he gets overpowered.sometimes dunc grabs when gets beat, freelances all the time requires help alot.a very bad defender until i see differently not changing mind.offensively we see his overall game.just not an instinctive oladipo defender it is what it is .
To you. You’re entitled to your opinion.
we need to play one on one someday and see how good a defender you are, lol!
Shhhh you speaking too much facts lol. I’ve been telling ppl that they’ve improved there D too, you can see it with the eye test, and your stats just prove it czech. But a shame a few ppl on here still don’t see it. Both of them appear to have taken a leap so far. They’re not liabilities like they were before in year’s past. Also teams that been trying to hunt them actively on d been having less success. Herro can stay in front of his man better, and even made a stop on transition d. Robinson can hold his own better against bigger players with his 6’8 frame and when guarding smaller players he limits costly fouls that he used to make.
Yes, numbers don’t lie and are not disputable. But everybody’s entitled to their own opinion. Some people think the moon landing was fake. It doesn’t matter how much evidence you provide, it won’t change their mind.
Stocks rising. So if I’m looking for tomatoes thrown at me here…trade Tyler, Dunc, JJJ for an all-star 😆😜
Blasphemy!
crucify him!
Thanks for those stats. It’s nice to be able go use analytics to see past our subjectiveness. It’s also nice to know our eye test assumptions are usually correct.
Trae Young got his 30 points. That is what excellent pgs do. But if your team mates don’t hit their shots, you are doomed. Bogdan got hot early then cooled off, and no other Hawk stepped up.On the contrary, Duncan stepped up for the Heat in the 4th qtr and the Heat won. That is the summary of the game. No matter how good a pg you are, some help from others go a long way way to get you a win.
Important win, Herro and Dunc were incredible.
Team is in the good place. Close to 4th spot, where it belongs.
I won’t belabor this point ad nauseam, but does anyone else besides hfl not agree that both Duncan and Herro have improved defensively this season? I focus on both when I watch the games (I’ve also been focusing on how often Herro passes the ball on offense. It’s actually quite a lot). I wouldn’t suggest to anyone that either is what you’d call a ‘good’ defender, but imo both are better than they were in past seasons. In Ron’s ‘rithmatic tonight, he showed a very good defensive play by Duncan that resulted in a Hawks turnover and a Heat score. They both have clearly worked on improving their overall game on both sides of the floor and I appreciate it.
Yes. Both are definitely better. I watched them closely on defense and there’s a significant improvement. Plus the playmaking.
The improvement in both players is asday and night.
1. Herro is no longer looking to shoot first. He is now an eager passer.
2. Not only is Herro going toe to toe with his man on defence, he is looking out for steals.
3. Duncan cuts and slices into the paint when he sees a Heat ball handler running into a wall of defense.
4. I see Duncan going for defensive rebounds but his quicker and bigger team mates Bam and Caleb gets to the ball before him.I like that he is not shying away.
5.Most importantly, his fouls on the defensive end have dropped sizably.
sorry to be late, but this is a great observation.
Duncan is definitely rebounding better. I think his defense has improved, but he’s not as good as Herro. He does seem to know how to be at the right spot at the right time, which probably makes him a better team defender than a guy like John Collins, for example. He’s not a plus defender in a playoff series, but he’s tall and he knows where to be, so he’s not a liability.
Herro is another story. He was already a plus rebounder. His desire to dive after loose balls has always been under-rated. At this point, he’s moving his feet really well on defense and he knows where the help is. He’s a solid defender.
The problem is that he plays on the same team as Bam, Jimmy Butler, and Jamie J, and he’s not as good as those guys. What does he need to do to get there? He needs to challange shots, which is a long way from happening. He needs to get into passing lanes, which he’s shown improvement with. And I would like to see him get better at pressuring the ballhandler. That will be especially useful if he’s guarding the second best player on the Celtics, Bucks, Knicks, or Sixers.
But yes, short story long, Tyler and Dunc are both playing better defense. Jamie is making his 3’s. And Caleb is getting to the rim off the dribble. The Heat are going to win the title this year.
That last part blew my mind 🤯🤯🤯
Lets go!!!!
herro has improved looks better sliding his body much better lets see him vs boston last 2 minutes of game cause last few years hes been abused by them.dunc has improved a little bit but for me he is a terrible defender compared to the rest of the players.his offensive game so far this season looks great.def a positive .nobody gonna tell me anything positive about his d .between hh and dunc rather see hh get more minutes.
We are not in total disagreement. The worst defenders on the team are Jovic, O Robinson, Bryant, and Duncan. Highsmith is a far better defender. Again, my point isn’t that he’s good, just that he’s improved. Fewer dumb fouls, can defend one on one a bit better, still gets blown by at times.
jovic same agility as dunc orob and bryant not sure there bad defenders
I didn’t say they’re bad. I said they’re the worst defenders on the team. The only one that has looked really shaky is Jovic.
Heat in 3 way tie with Orlando and Knicks for 4th place. Herro and Duncan are in full stride. Now if Jimmy and Lowry could just catch up, this team might be able to do some damage.
Heat still a long way from being able to compete with Boston and Milwaukee. We’ll see about Philly on Christmas Day.
GO HEAT!!!
Really love the tenacity of this team, and a very good win. We did it without Jimmy and for some parts without Kyle, against one of the top 3 guard duo’s in the league. Bogdanovic was on fire the first half, then 2nd half We put the clamps down on him. Then We let herro and Robinson cook!. This the second game both was closing and going off. Herro had like seven 3’s, and Robinson had a career high 4th quarter in points scored. That lineup with bam, Herro,Robinson, Caleb, jjj is lethal with everyone over 6’6, it’s very switchable. That is spo’s true definition of positionless ball. We should see more of that lineup going forward.
Got to give Duncan and Ty the credit they deserve. And Atlanta is not a bad team. OTOH, just because the Geat is a decent team that got a nice win without Jimmy,,doesn’t mean they shouldn’t try to improve. In fact, when you’re close to being able to compete with the best, you should definitely go for it. And, just because it has become obvious that Duncan and Ty are much better than was thought, doesn’t mean that one of them shouldn’t be traded as that is how we can get an even better player that helps us even more. Until we start beating the elite of this league, and Philly is an elite team, I will still think a trade is necessary. Beat Philly and then maybe the we already have enough point of view will be considered. But, at least now we know there will be teams willing to trade for Dunc or Ty. Hey, if they would take anyone else other than Bam or Jimmy, I would keep Ty or Dunc, but no one else can bring enough of a player back.
Yeah really good to see Ty-Dunc working in endgame just hope its sustainable even against elite teams. If their defense holds up and with that above average offense Heat will go far this season. Again.
I guess Lakers should worry about themselves for being blown off by the Bulls the other night and consider a trade too.
The Lakers won that tournament and then started losing. And the Bulls have been winning lately, which may mean they won’t rebuild. But, yes, the Lakers should and will trade, for the same reason as us, because Lebron, like Jimmy, is on his last legs. I think both teams will make moves, but if only one does, it will be the Lakers, as they are always very active.
Great win.
Really fantastic finish. I knew the Heat werer going to win with about five minutes left, when Spo subbed out J-Rich for Jamie. Closing lineup was Bam/Caleb/Jamie/Duncan/Herro. Get away from that three guard garbage. Let Herro and Duncan play with three good defenders. I loved it.
I still think the teamwork between Jamie, Tyler, and Bam could be better, and it will be better the more they play together. I would love to see Spo running less of the 3-guard lineups and more 2-big lineups, maybe with Bam/Love and definitely more Jovic minutes.
All that said, great win. Fun game. Go Heat!
Jovic isn’t ready. He’s under 30% from 3’s at Sioux Falls. He needs a full season in G League to get enough playing time to develop his game. He also needs an offseason of heavy duty weight training. He is not ready for prime time.
Jovic is over 40% from 3’s in the NBA. And who’s talking about prime time? I’m talking about December games against Atlanta. We’re the Miami Heat, not the Orlando Magic. Let the kid play
His overall FG% is .333. His 3pt% is 42.9 because he has only taken 8 3’s. At what point would you have inserted him in the Hawks game that would not have jeopardized the outcome. He’s too eager to show what he can do. He gets ahead of himself. That’s because he lacks game time experience. He has to mature and let the game slow down. He’s not good enough to make the rotation and the team does not have enough blowout games to let him and others play during “garbage time.” If the choice is sit on the bench and get frustrated with the Heat or go to Sioux Falls and get the experience, confidence and skills needed to make the rotation, the decision is a “no brainer.” After all, this isn’t Portland. There he could all the the playing time he wants on a lottery team.
he;ll have a nice career in europe most likely sunman.
That’s one of the disadvatgages of drafting players so young. They take a while to mature and get their games together. Unfortunately, Miami is a “win now” mode and doesn’t have the luxury of holding his hand while he matures. He has to work at his craft all year long, just like Jimmy, Bam, Herro, Duncan, Jaime and others all do. Nothing is given to you.
I am all for a 2 big or even 3 big lineups if we have the personnel in the closing minutes. Teams take advantage of the undersized Heat but Spo can be fatally stubborn
I think we’ve had too much success in the past few years to bring back the “Spobot” nickname. And the player probably appreciate the consistent rotation. But I’m with you, I would like to see Spo loosen things up over the next few weeks, because once we pass the trade deadline things will start to get serious
“…Heat–the NBA’s worst 4Q team”
and yet we are five games above .500
Heat find ways to grind and win. Last season they were mediocre in 3s after being tops in ’21-’22. Some stats they fall off but make up for it in other ways. Imo as long as they are top 10 in defense our boys can make it work out someway somehow.
meh, the Heat have won two in a row, but they’ve also blown 4th quarter leads against the Wolves, Bulls, Pacers, Knicks, Nets, Bulls again, etc. I’m hoping that Herro is the difference. He was against the Hawks last night. we’ll see…
u judge heat vs milw bost phil.they can beat all the other teams in the east w/o jimmy
