LeBron James is the clear-cut biggest fish left available on the market this offseason. And the Miami Heat remain heavily involved as a potential destination.
Although it’s still unclear when James will be making this anticipated decision— one that will be the final landing spot of his legendary career— the noise is loud. The fact that a 41-year-old still has the entire league on hold as teams and fans await his choice speaks volumes to who James still is. In a 2025-26 campaign that saw him take a third fiddle backseat to Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves, James still put up nearly 21 points, 6 rebounds, 7 assists and 1.2 steals per game on 51.5% shooting.
His entire skill set even in his late years is one that this Heat team could still desperately utilize. The Giannis Antetokounmpo acquisition put Miami back in contention in the Eastern Conference. But adding James to a Giannis and Bam Adebayo core, along with coach Erik Spoelstra, is enough to go from contender status to championship favorites.
Here is all the latest notable LeBron-Miami intel:
The Cleveland Cavaliers and Miami Heat are the two teams emerging as the top suitors for James, according to multiple sources.
The Heat are an enticing spot that has a lot of factors to “draw” LeBron James in
“There’s a draw with Miami. Pat Riley is a draw, Spoelstra is a draw. I haven’t gotten any feel that there’s still tension between LeBron and Pat Riley that would detour him from that. I think Bam and Giannis are big draws for him too. He played team USA for Bam and has a lot of respect for Bam.”
“Giannis would want LeBron in Miami from my understanding as well. No state taxes… In January, you think about Miami
— and it’s Miami! If you have a team that is basically neck and neck but one of them is based in Miami, with no state taxes…”— Shams Charania
LeBron has reportedly thought about the idea of playing alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo
“A (LeBron) reunion with Miami especially after the Heat figured out a way to finally get Giannis to south beach… Miami of course he won two championships, the history with that organization is there… I do believe that the opportunity of playing with Giannis— he’s been considering.”
— Jake Fischer/Bleacher Report
ESPN’s Brian Windhorst believes there’s unfinished business for LeBron in Miami
“I’m just going to say as this process has gone on, I’ve been thinking more and more about LeBron in Miami. When he went back to Cleveland it was about making something right… the way It ended in Miami wasn’t quite right. There would be something about making it right.”
— Brian Windhorst
The Heat were interested in pursuing James as soon as the Antetokounmpo blockbuster went down, which was first reported by Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson.
That notion has only intensified after James announced he would not be returning to the LA Lakers. At this point of Miami’s summer, they still have 2-3 standard roster spots to fill— although that business has seemingly been put to a halt while they await on the clarity of LeBron’s decision.

I still think he’s going to Cleveland. But if he comes to Miami, I think a Championship becomes a very realistic goal
@WindhorstESPN says he’s hearing LeBron to another team— NOT Cleveland— is a done deal:
“I had somebody on the phone with me today that I consider a good source who was swearing it’s a done deal in another city…”
Here comes 3 and 4 like he promised 😉
It’s all hot air until something actually happens.
We’re going to need you to increase the positive thinking a bit, sir. 🙂
I’m the one who said the documentary is unfinished business! Windy over here stealing my takes! I need a lawyer, STAT!
I know the feeling. It’s happened more than once to me. Post an original thought today. Read an identical article about it tomorrow.
