The Giannis Antetokounmpo era in Miami has not gotten off the start any of us envisioned.
Fortunately, the sun rose this morning. A new day equals a new opportunity, and we’re only two games into the season.
Miami hits the road for the first time this season, hoping to salvage the back-to-back with an affair against the beleaguered Charlotte Hornets. The last time the Heat stepped foot in Spectrum Center, their season ended, losing a 127-126 overtime heartbreaker in the play-in game.
The Heat have not won a game (excluding Summer League, preseason) since, losing a pair of blowouts to the Minnesota Timberwolves and Detroit Pistons. Miami’s two losses have been by 17 and 25 points, respectively. The Heat’s minus-42 point differential through two games is their worst to begin a season in franchise history.
The good news is that Antetokounmpo looks phenomenal (outside of a few defensive lapses), scoring 35 and 36 points in back-to-back games, respectively. His teammates, however, haven’t followed.
Meanwhile, the Hornets, who are without Kon Knueppel and Coby White to begin the season, enter 1-1. They were bulldozed by the Atlanta Hawks, 128-81, on Friday, two nights after a 110-103 win over the lowly Brooklyn Nets.
