Hanifan’s Take: Hey, you ever heard of LeBron James? Did you know his son now plays for the Lakers? Sorry, I just felt like reminding you, just in case you forgot. It’s flown pretty under the radar this whole offseason. Jokes aside, the Lakers had a pretty quiet offseason outside of hiring JJ Redick to replace Darvin Ham after two middling seasons. One thing that Redick did a phenomenal job was, when assembling his staff, getting as much experience as possible. Scott Brooks and Nate McMillan offer plenty of NBA experience while Lindsay Harding, the reigning G-League Coach of the Year with the Stockton Kings (Sacramento’s G-League affiliate), was an assistant on Mike Brown’s staff in 2022-23. She can coach, and will have plenty of insight for Redick, as will others. I still need to see how Redick operates on the sidelines for me to have faith for this season, but I think he’s got a well-oiled machine helping guide him through the ups-and-downs of an NBA season as a coach. From a player personnel perspective, Los Angeles only lost Dinwiddie and Prince, who weren’t huge contributors last season. It’s mostly the same roster. I’m quite concerned about their depth, though I’m more bullish if former #HEATCulture™ extraordinaire Gabe Vincent, who missed all but 11 games due to injury, and Jarred Vanderbilt stay healthy. LeBron James and Anthony Davis combined to play 147 games–both will need to remain healthy for a full season to maximize this team’s playoff hopes in a loaded conference.
