Hanifan's Offseason Outlook: Evaluating the Minnesota Timberwolves' Offseason

Hanifan’s Take: The Minnesota Timberwolves, who have the NBA’s second-highest active cap, entered the offseason with limited financial flexibility because of where they were at beyond the second apron. There’s still also a cloud over future ownership since Glen Taylor, the team’s majority owner, has tried to sell the team on three separate occassions. Nevertheless, the Timberwolves used a 2030 swap to get into the top-10, landing Rob Dillingham, one of the more polarizing prospects at the top of the draft due to his size (or lack thereof). He was an exceptional scoring guard with very strong playmaking chops plus great handle at 6-foot, 165-pounds. He’s going to automatically slot in behind Mike Conley, replacing Morris, who had a cup of coffee with Minnesota. Good thing the Shannon lawsuit cleared before the draft, though I’m interested to see how he fits in an NBA context long-term. I don’t love losing a veteran piece like Kyle Anderson, but he also relieves the organization of plenty of tax dollars. It was a fairly inactive offseason for the Timberwolves after their first Western Conference Finals berth since 2003-04. Their half-court offense must improve if they want to get over the hump, and I’m not sure they completely addressed that issue outside of Dillingham this offseason.
