The Miami Heat defeated the Dallas Mavericks 123-118 in a thrilling overtime game on Sunday night, led by Jimmy Butler’s season-high 33 points and a game-tying dunk in regulation. Alec Burks continued his impressive run, adding 15 points on 4-of-8 shooting from deep, including clutch buckets late in the fourth quarter and overtime. Pelle Larsson contributed efficiently with 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting and a +18 plus/minus.

The turning point came in overtime when Bam Adebayo nailed a corner three and locked down Kyrie Irving defensively, showcasing his two-way impact. Tyler Herro and Adebayo also recorded double-doubles, while Kyrie’s 27-point effort couldn’t overcome Miami’s resilience.

The Heat improved to 7-7 and have won two straight games. Their upcoming contest will be against the Milwaukee Bucks in a continuation of their Emriates Cup campaign.

6’11” 235 lb. Pelicans Rookie Yves Missi (21st pick) had 16 points and 13 rebounds off the bench tonight. That makes 49 rebounds in his last 5 games. Sounds like all the rookie centers are getting playing time except for Kel’el Ware.

Good comments below. Everything we ever do, that is better than expectations, usually has Jimmy Butler in the middle of it. He still gets us those baskets no one else can get in crunch time. I only wish he could hold up physically to the effort it takes to lift us like he does.

As goes Jimmy, so goes the Heat. If his game is good, Miami can be somewhat competitive. If his game goes south, the Heat are looking at a rebuild.

I just find it weird that the Heat players regress in free throw made. There are some games that we could have easily won if we had the previous seasons free throw percentage.

I agree. The infection seems to be affecting almost everyone. Hopefully, they snap out of it soon. Several rotation players are under 80%.
Butler: 76.5%
Bam: 70.8%
Highsmith: 63.6%
Jaquez: 63.6%
Larsson: 58.3%
Love: 33.3%

Great win for the guys! They held together and didn’t choke when the game was on the line.

  • I’ll give credit where credit is due. “Playoff Jimmy” was in the house the last two games. If that is the player the Heat will be getting this season, I might change my mind about trading him.
  • This team, as constructed, is not made to have a set rotation. It is built to operate as a Swiss Army Knife. The only true rotation players are: Bam, Butler and Herro. The rest of the rotation may vary, depending on what kind of night they are having.
  • Spo’s job is to identify the right match-ups, combination(s) of players and hot and cold players each night. The rotation will vary nightly, depending on match-ups, groups playing well together and who is hot.
  • The rotation should get even more interesting when Ware and the G Leaguers (Johnson, Stevens, Christopher, etc.) are included in the mix down the road.
  • Burks and Larsson are assimilating seamlessly with the starters and the second unit.
  • It looks like Love has found the Fountain of Youth. The team sure can use his rebounding, passing, high BBIQ, experience and leadership.
  • The team was outrebounded tonight (59-57) by a good rebounding team. Nonetheless, several Heat players rebounded very well including: Bam – 11, Love – 11, Herro – 10 and Butler – 9.

Keep up the progress fellas. Keep doing your best to winning and keeping us all entertained.

GO HEAT!!!

Thank you. I try to see things as they are. The Heat is definitely a middle of the road team. However, I see the potential with a trade or two of being more competitive. On the other hand, an injury or two could put Miami in the lottery. Remember, Miami squeaked by a top 5-10 team, at home, in overtime, with everyone relatively healthy, while Dallas was missing one of the top 5 NBA players.

Add on that list 5 day rest, and Spo able to prepare as for PO game, and you barely beat Dallas.

Still, Dallas is a quality team, Butler was great, we have another great young player to root for, and most of the team played well.

In past two or three years, that was a rare thing in regular season.

So I m happy, no matter the results.

Count me in as well, especially the Butler comment.

I think Jimmy finally got the memo. Him staying healthy and playing aggressively every night is the only way this thing will work! Period!
