Trade Scenario #6,837

Phoenix Suns receive: Jimmy Butler, Delon Wright

Miami Heat receive: Ryan Dunn, Khris Middleton, Bobby Portis, 2029 first-round Phoenix pick, 2031 first-round pick swap with Milwaukee Bucks

Milwaukee Bucks receive: Zach LaVine

Washington Wizards receive: MarJon Beauchamp, 2031 second-round pick (via MIL)

Chicago Bulls receive: Bradley Beal, 2027 first-round pick (via Phoenix)

———————————————————————————————————————————-

*Miami could then possibly turn the Phoenix pick and Rozier into a SF (Kuzma?) and Highsmith and Richardson into a PG (Josh Giddey?).

unless ware develops into a ss which he might 25-12 guy we need one.id like to see ware more on the low block with his length ty as a # 2 and bam as #3 would be ok prefer ty as 3type player bam 4.i dont believe players 4-6 are currently on roster jc.jimmy should get us a 4 5 6 portis middleton type player so we just need a little more help after the quitter trade.we saw bam just getting outsized intimidated by giannis on offense defense and rebounding ,his lack of size just jumps off the tv screen it did vs denver in the finals and the heat still rode with him at the 5 but since mickey and pat are besties pats here as long as he wants to be regardless of lowry rozier etc moves.lots of sleepless nights for 30 knowing that

I will not read any meaning into the win or loss column this season. Like, I said some weeks ago, the best way to approach the rest of this season, is to see it as 2006 preseason for the Heat. Let the young players get regular NBA game experience to prop them up for next season. Any trade that will not bring one or two solid 2 way player(s), that will make the team very competitive next season is a futile exercise . It will be another pleasure satisfying exercise to release endorphins.

Pat Riley is winning the battle against Jimmy Butler but he’s losing the war

Pissing contests produce no winners. They are both losing, as are the players and fans. Both egos are too proud to apologize and too stubborn to compromise. They are both waiting for the other one to blink.

This issue should have been addressed by Pat a long time ago, rather than being left to fester. He’s apparently already written this year off.

yeah, i think everyone on hhh thought Jimmy was gone after last season. Pat should have moved him in the offseason. Hopefully this is over with soon

A bit surprised with Riley considering all his achievements. A good lesson in life, it is ALWAYS better to cut your losses sooner and move on than later.

It’s pretty clear that Bam, Herro and Ware are the team’s future. It’s also clear the team needs to shed some salary and develop the younger players. Any way you cut it, Miami is a play-in team and may not make it out of the play-in round. In that case, they would get to keep their 2025 (lottery) pick.

I would trade Rozier immediately for an expiring contract or an upgrade, if one is available. I don’t know what the Heat plans to do with Duncan, but I don’t think he’s worth $19.88M next year. Miami will be required to pay him a guaranteed $9.9M if they release him or $19,9M if they keep him. It’s better to trade him this year and recoup a young player and a second rounder, or two.

In order to be competitive, Miami needs to add two good starters to go with Bam, Herro and Ware, preferably a true point guard and a scoring small forward. It wouldn’t hurt to get another C/PF who can defend, rebound and score 8-10 points a game, to rotate with Ware and Bam. Somebody like Bobby Portis.

If the alleged multiple team Butler deal falls through with Phoenix, I think Butler for Middleton and Portis (plus a pick) would be a good trade for both Milwaukee and Miami. Both Milwaukee players have options for 2025-2026. I think Portis ($13.4M) may opt out and seek a bigger contract, which he’ll get. Middleton ($34.0M) will probably opt in. Miami may be able to extend Portis if he likes the team, the coaches and the city. As an expiring contract, teams may be interested in trading for Middleton.

One other thing, as we saw the potential in Ware, several of us have seen the potential in Isaiah Stevens (as a very good pass-first/high assist point guard) and Keshad Johnson (as a Highsmith-type defender in a Butler-type body) who can score and rebound. I wouldn’t mind seeing both players getting some quality time on the court in the next few weeks. They just may surprise some people the way Ware has. Speaking of Ware, 20 points, 10 rebounds, 1 steal and 2 blocks? Are you kidding me? Dude is only 20 years old!

GO HEAT!!!

Good assessment. Agree on Stevens and Johnson- we have to be honest about this season, nothing to lose anymore.

Yes, that’s the question. And why we have to get some help in the trade, or we need draft picks or cap space to start a partial rebuild. Either way, this team’s future is cloudy, uncertain. We also need new leadership.

I changed the channel a few minutes ago. absolutely impossible to watch. Riley has to resolve this issue so this team can move on.

Riley is a big part of this issue. Micky needs to make changes. This team has been mired in mediocrity since LeBron left. Riley no longer sways stars to come here, and his hatred of draft picks, results in throwing away potential talent for the likes of Rozier.

Jimmy may be enemy number one, and he surely won’t come out of smelling like roses, but Riley’s stench is on all of these problems too.

Team shoulda been tanking all season, and it’s not too late to start. Spo needs to suck it up and play the kids big minutes. And while it may be blasphemy, if I was in charge, I might start looking to move Bam too.

By the time this team is ready to compete again, Bam won’t be what he is today. And with his offensive regression, trade the elite defender while he still has value.

Nice to have someone else on this forum who sees what I do. I only came aboard five years ago. I assume he made far shrewder moves previously. We have another winter sports GM, Bill Zito of the Panthers, who is infinitely more savvy, more prepared, more creative. Watching him over the last three years, there is no comparison. Someone here asked what Riley did wrong other than Lowry, and I always say, look at his transactions starting in 2021, snd watch them get progressively worse. I wonder why everyone here puts up with Riley, gives him so much slack, but I figure he used to be better, just got too old for the job.

Okay, let’s start with 2021. You know how I feel about the bad contracts of Lowry and Duncan. Let’s look deeper. I will not address 2 way contracts.
August 7, 2021 re-signed F Jimmy Butler. Signed F P.J. Tucker.
August 6, 2021 re-signed Gs Max Strus, Gabe Vincent, F Duncan Robinson and C Dewayne Dedmon. Acquired G Kyle Lowry from Toronto.
May 14, 2021 signed C Omer Yurtseven to a remainder-of-the-season contract.
Okay there’s the Lowry and Duncan contracts. The rest were all signed to very team friendly terms. Maybe you can argue Dedmon at $9 million for 2 years, but who would you have signed for that $4.5 million? I just don’t see any massive errors there. So let’s start there since you specified 2021 above. I’m not a Riley homer. But now I have listed exactly what transactions there were. You always say look, so now I looked. What could he have done better? I will do other years in the future.

Limit the discussion to who he brought in to make this team better, leaving out the resignings, and the lack of any strong additions becomes more clear. Lowry gave us HH like help for way bigger cost, Tucker, another Locksmith, both careers almost over after us. Yurtseven gone after us, Dedmon disruptive, gone after us. Dunc, overpaid but otherwise very nice player. And, is that an adequate haul? No, what we are leaving out is all the whale watching for nothing and ending up losing a pick for Terry, and Burks and Mills, and JRich, nothing to write home about. And that doesn’t even go back enough to include Harkness and Hardaway. Compare that to the rest of the contenders in the East, see how it stacks up. We got no draft picks, no cap room, we are a mess right now.

I left out Caleb, who was a good pickup, helped us a lot. Wish we kept him, and Crowder, also helped, but wasn’t worth resigning.

A.Some NBA teams are designed to be middle of the pack and be an avenue for fans to socialize two or three times a week while being run at no financial loss. Ownership is content with a no loss in investment with or without wiinning a championship.

B. Some NBA teams are designed to compete at championship levels and owners financialy invest maximally for a period of time knowing that a championship brings returns to cover those years of investment. Ownership goal is championship.

You can tell the difference between both categories in the recruitment strategies of the teams and how much the star player(s) accept(s) the status quo. Do you want to stay and have a guaranteed job as long as the relationship is mutual or do you want to win a championship?

This seems to be where we lose games, falling behind when the second team gets minutes. Partly the defense gets worse, and mostly because we don’t get enough scoring.
