The Miami Heat secured a 106-97 win over the Brooklyn Nets Saturday evening inside Barclays Center, snapping their two-game losing streak and moving them back to .500.
It was a sloppy game for the Heat, who turned the ball over 22 times–tied for the second-most turnovers they’ve coughed up in a game this season–leading to 29 Nets points. Miami shot 44.3 percent from the floor and 13-of-28 from 3-point range while canning 23-of-24 at the charity stripe; it also scored 12 more points in the paint with 27 more bench points.
Tyler Herro led the Heat with 25 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the floor and 3-of-6 from 3-point range, dishing out a game-high nine assists. Bam Adebayo notched his 24th double-double of the season, finishing with 17 points and 16 rebounds on 6-of-13 shooting; Nikola Jovic had a very encouraging bounce-back performance with 17 points, six rebounds, four assists, two steals and two blocks.
The Heat held Brooklyn to just 37.5 percent shooting, even though it shot 35.0 percent from beyond the arc on the evening. Miami also finished a plus-16 on the glass, only the third time this season it’s finished with 15 or more rebounds than its opponent.
Saturday’s win improved the Heat to an even 22-22. No matter what, the Heat can’t get too far away from .500, no matter how poorly or well they play. The Nets, on the other hand, are tanking. They have now lost six straight and 11 of their last 12, dropping to 14-32.
It wasn’t pretty, but what are your thoughts and reactions on the Heat’s nine-point win?

That was ugly. There would be another blown out game against better team.
I don’t like what I see.
yeah agreed. I turned it off in the 3rd quarter. I think that, whatever rhythm this team found on the West Coast Trip, it is lost now, with Butler in and out of the lineup. I certainly hope Spo doesn’t start him next game. This team looks like a bunch of guys that don’t know their roles
3rd straight year play in? Then failing to reach playoffs or entirely out of post season? I heard it was a sloppy win, wasn’t able to follow got busy
Unless they pull off the Jimmy trade with some surprisingly good return, I believe the best case scenario is through the play in (we keep the 25 draft pick) to the first round exit. No way we can beat Cleveland, Boston or NY in the first round.
But I think it will be hard to even make it out of the play in.
Heat outrebounded the Nets 51-35. When is the last time they outrebounded a team by 16? The Heat also shot better percentages for FTs, 2PT and 3PT shots.
However, the Heat had 22 turnovers to 14 for the Nets. The starters alone had 15 (Herro 5, Bam 4, Robinson 3, Ware 2 and Highsmith 1). Jovic also had 4, Rozier 2 and Jaquez 1). That is ridiculous! Especially considering that Brooklyn is tied for 12th place with Charlotte and had several rotation players who did not play due to injuries.
Riley needs to complete a deal (or two) before the deadline without giving away the farm. If he can’t do that, he should seriously consider retiring.
cam jordan cam thomas are prob their 2 best players simmons hurt as usual.problem is sun who the f would want jimmy .i dont even think u could get a deal done satisfying me and rc
What if there is no other possible option and Miami is left with only one choice? In that case, Riley should take his sweet-ass time and wait until the very last minute before the trade deadline expires before deciding whether or not to pull the trigger on the Beal trade.
If Riley does decide it is in the team’s best interest not to trade Butler, I can live with that. However, if he does decide that it is the team’s best interest to trade Butler to the Suns for Beal, he should insist on also receiving all three Phoenix first round picks (one of which is in 2025). I don’t like it, but is it better than having “Debbie Downer” aka “Shit Face Coffee” hanging around the team being disruptive until the end of the season?
At present, Phoenix is in 8th place, 2.5 games behind the 5th place Lakers and 2.5 games ahead of the 12th place Spurs. If the Suns want to have a chance of making the play-in round/playoffs, they will make the trade. Miami is only 3.5 games behind 4th place Milwaukee, 4 games ahead of 10th place Chicago and 5 games ahead of 11th place Philadelphia. If Chicago or Philly fails to end the season with a winning record, Miami has an excellent chance of making the play-in round. Worse case scenario, the Heat does not make the play-in round or loses in the play-in round and does not make the playoffs. In that case, Miami would retain it’s 2025 first round (lottery) pick.
If a trade is not ultimately made and Butler is still around until the end of the season, he will hopefully decide to opt out this summer. Meanwhile, I would sit his ass at the end of the bench and use the next 2.5 months to play the young folks, (like Stevens, Johnson, Christopher, Larsson, etc.) to see what the team has for the future. At that point, if Butler continues to step out of line and be disruptive, I would continue suspending him…repeatedly, if necessary.
pat and jim gonna have to have a makeup and bring jim back it looks like let him walk next year free up his $$.id love to have beal but his contract is enormous and hes got few more years left.but hed be our 2nd best player.and help ty with scoring.
Riley gave Butler an opportunity to earn a max extension this season. He never told him he wouldn’t give him an extension but that he would have to work for it. He would need to demonstrate he was reliable.
In 2023-2024, Butler played a total of 60 games (and he dogged several of those) because he was presumably “saving himself for the playoffs.” Because of Butler’s absences and frequent dogging, the Heat finished in 8th place, one game out of 6th place and only 4 games behind 2nd place New York. Butler was subsequently injured in the first play-in game vs 76ers. Although Miami eventually got into the playoffs, they were destroyed in 5 games by Boston.
Instead of coming out trying to prove a point this year and earn a max contract extension, Butler came out with a grudge and a passive-aggressive attitude. His played half-heartedly and had frequent absences. He also seemed jealous of Bam for getting a max extension and Herro for getting all the attention. Butler has missed 17 games, 9 due to suspension. So much for earning a max extension from the Heat.
If Riley does trade for Beal, he’ll need to use those draft picks to bring in other reinforcements. Otherwise, I would keep Butler and dare him to opt in this summer. If he does, Riley can trade him to the highest bidder, regardless where he wants to go.
I know Terry is trying to shoot out of his slump and just ride confidence through it, but honestly I feel like he could contribute a lot more if he looked to elevate and get to the rim more. One of the things I was most excited about when we first got him was that we had an athletic guard capable of weaving and getting some good tough finishes, before Tyler beefed up a little we didn’t really see that a whole lot.
I know Duncan has gotten better there but usually it’s the same thing right down the slot, fake the lob/floater then glance it off the glass on the way down. But Terry can be so much more creative than that because he’s more acrobatic. He’s shifty. I think he’s got good touch through the air. I don’t know I just feel like he could carve out more of a niche there if that was a bigger part of the shot diet. And like Crotty and co. here have been saying more decisiveness would be nice as opposed to lingering and then stepback on what always feels like a long defender and just drawing them in.
I’m sure Spo knows that and that it just feels more natural for him to dribble into the shot but he would earn more credibility on the stepback if he drove more. Crotty was saying that he’s not getting up enough on the 3 and I feel like that would buy him just slightly more space and time to get his feet set under him and get up more on his shot
Obv they’re the pros so what do I know but my $0.02
its tiring going to the hoop alot. at his age would get worn down and prob injured.but your right he looks good when going to hoop when he hoists a j now im shocked when it goes in which isnt to much.not sure what happened to him but he looks washed.father time undefeated
Ugly game but happy to get a win
The problem with Terry is that he needs to have the ball more often on his hands to do the weaving and dealing, but that will affect other players. The Heat’s present squad, especially the starters, is not built around one player being the “D Wade” or “Kobe” of the team. It is built around ball and players movement and getting guys open in their sweet spots. Terry needs to walk on his mid range game, which is lacking. He takes 3s or drives to the rim, so he is predictable in his offensive game.
The Nets game came along at a nice time, when we could really use a win.
like to see them more often, felt good after 3 hours of nets, next time they might have a full squad though,
