In case you did not hear, the Miami Heat have traded star wing Jimmy Butler to the Golden State Warriors in a blockbuster four-team deal, ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania first reported Wednesday.
Ironically enough, this happened in the first half of Wednesday’s game against the Philadelphia 76ers, the second leg of a back-to-back.
They didn’t find out in the locker room. No, a few of the players–including Kevin Love, Tyler Herro and Jaime Jaquez Jr.–heard from a fan sitting near the bench.
It’s an unconventional way to hear about a trade, but I appreciate the fan telling the bench that the Heat fleeced Golden State.
Obviously, the terms he shared in the video weren’t the final terms, as the Heat received Andrew Wiggins, PJ Tucker and a 2025 top-10 protected first-round pick. They also received Kyle Anderson after there was a fallout with the fifth team: The Toronto Raptors.

After all, it will be interesting to see the comments that are made by Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra and the players about the move over the next several days–once the deal becomes finalized. Butler immediately signed a two-year, $121 extension with Golden State upon being traded.
