Miami Heat: Erik Spoelstra, organization rooting for Chiefs to win Super Bowl amid Pat Riley’s ‘three-peat’ trademark

While becoming the fourth team in NFL History to play in three-straight Super Bowls, the Kansas City Chiefs are hoping to make even more history Sunday by becoming the first to win three Super Bowls.

The first team to make three straight, ironically enough, was the Miami Dolphins from 1971-73. The two others were the Buffalo Bills–who achieved the wrong kind of three-peat in the early 90s, losing four straight Super Bowls (1990-93)–and New England Patriots (2016-18).

Should the Chiefs be victorious Sunday, Miami Heat president Pat Riley, who successfully trademarked the term “three-peat” in 1989 and five other variations of the term, will be a huge beneficiary.

And as polarizing as the Chiefs are, it appears that head coach Erik Spoelstra plus others from the Heat organization are rooting for that exact outcome.

Earlier this week, Pat Riley and the NFL agreed to a deal to use the phase on merchandise if the Chiefs win. It remains to be seen how much money the 79-year-old would make, but football is king in America and a first-time honor suggests it could be millions.

The most recent NFL, MLB, NBA or NHL franchise to win three-straight titles was the Los Angeles Lakers (2000-02). The Bulls won three-straight twice (1991-93, 1996-98), which nearly pocketed seven figures for Riley, followed by the New York Yankees (1998-00).

The Miami Heat nearly accomplished that feat in the “Big 3” era with LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, going 2-2 in Finals appearances from 2011-14. Let’s just say that Riley would’ve been stacking mountains of greenbacks if that was the case.

He may be on Sunday regardless. Who are rooting for in Super Bowl 59 between the Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles? Let us know in the comments below!
