The New York Knicks fought back from a 19-point deficit to down the Miami Heat in overtime 116-112 inside Kaseya Center Sunday evening.

The Heat led by 19 with 7:10 left in the third quarter, but a 21-5 run trimmed the deficit to three points with less than a minute left in the period. Miami extended the lead back up to double digits in the fourth, though an 11-0 run capped by Miles McBride’s pull-up jumper gave the Knicks a 101-100 advantage with 2:58 left.

Jalen Brunson’s pull-up floater tied it at 105 with 26.1 seconds left, but Tyler Herro was not able to give the Heat the lead on the final possession. Mikal Bridges’ go-ahead triple as time expired clanked off the backboard, forcing overtime.

Bam Adebayo scored the Heat’s only two buckets until Alec Burks drained a contested 3-pointer down five with 27.1 seconds left. Poor process elsewhere coupled by failing to slow down Brunson was Miami’s demise down the stretch–culminating to what was another missed opportunity for it despite possessing a big second-half lead.

Adebayo led the Heat with 30 points on a remarkable 12-of-16 shooting, in addition to seven rebounds, four assists and one steal in a team-high 42 minutes. Tyler Herro had 22 points while four other Heat scorers tallied double digits.

Really good game, except finish.
Heat were shorthanded.

Mitchell is a real deal. As Ware.

This team needs a closer! That’s one thing that “Playoff Jimmy” of past years was. It’s almost as though none of our current veterans know how to close out games… how to win. Maybe that’s something the players must learn together through trial and error. Maybe the solution is to bring a mercenary in to do the job.

Either way, Spo must get his act together and figure things out. Although this ain’t his first rodeo, he seems as lost as most of the players during crunch time. I can’t keep track of the number of big leads the team has lost this season. Several losses are directly attributable to poor decisions (or non-decisions) by Spo. Without a calming influence in the huddle or on the floor, first the players freeze and then they panic. Like a deer in a headlight, when it is time to control the tempo and move the ball around to get good shots, the team runs the clock down and takes bad shots. The defense also goes to s**t. Before you know it a double digit lead turns into a loss. There are no excuses for losing games like these.

Bout30man

Even in the loss I could not help but see a lot of good. Davion played well. So did several others. The defense was better until the fourth.
Kel’el needs to be in as much as possible. We need another big to back up Bam and Kel’el, one who gives some rim protection as that makes a huge difference.
We have a core of Ty, Bam, Wiggins, Davion, Kel’el, and Burks, who is inexpensive and a useful backup. Too expensive are Dunc and Terry. One of the two of JJJ or Nico should be kept, at least to see if he continues to improve.
We still need another starter, the backup big I mentioned above, and another good rotation player. At least one will come from the draft. We will have to acquire the other, hopefully in a trade package of the non-core players or using money saved from Dunc or Terry’s contract. It will need to happen over two years as the draft picks need a year to acclimate and Terry’s contract won’t run out till then. If Terry somehow gets it together, which is possible, he could still be part of our core, which would then be seven players. Then we would need just the starter and the backup big.
But the path to competing is visible now, the core is solid, and there are avenues available to make the upgrades.
If we make the solid moves we need to make, better times will be ahead.

davion got killed tonight like most people do against brunson.based on his track record hes a backup or at best average.need better pg 30 ty bam ware wiggy decent core

heatforlife

tyler is not a ss brunson is.until we get a better player than tyler or bam we are fkd.tylers game is regressing hes scoring ok but the shooting % lately is down, his 3 pt shooting is way way down his 2 pt shooting going the wrong way.im at the point now where i can say bam is prob the better player.of the two.ty just gets warn down glad hes not getting injured but hes not the same fresh spry player as previous months.wiggins was sorely missed and when the f is he gonna get back.bottomline if ty or bam is the best player next year we are fkd.athletes make mental mistakes but mr spolstra can u pls explain to hhhers why no ware in the 4th until like a minute left ,if we had dwade or lebron we still win but his use of personnel has been driving me crazy for decades.and those ss covered it up

SunManFromDogBone

That one is on Spo. Terrible personnel decisions in 4th quarter and o.t. I thought Ware was hurt because he kept him out until the end. Rozier sucks. Burks should have had more minutes. Duncan should have been pulled for Anderson. What happened to ball movement? Why were they running clock down and shooting 3’s instead of working the ball into the paint? Doesn’t Spo like lobs? WTF? Terrible coaching job. Spo has been off this whole season as though he is preoccupied. Not good at all. 2026 can’t get here soon enough.

Reality Czech

Not sure about Anderson, but not playing Ware in most of the 4th quarter was unforgivable! One more blocked shot or one altered shot for a miss and we win that game. He also waited too long to bring Mitchell back on, leaving Rozier in for reasons unknown. Totally on Spo.

Big_guy305

Definitely on spo, ware should of got bulk of minutes in the 4th quarter, instead of waiting until ot to put him in for a few minutes, we needed rim protection, and rebounding in the 4th. I don’t understand why rozier be getting 4th quarter minutes, when he been bad, regularly blowing layups, he kept dunc in to long, burks should of got more minutes, and they was shooting too many 3s on a night they barely made over 10. This Definitely is spo worst season coaching, at minimum he lost us at least 5 games with end of game rotations smh.

Bout30man

Yes, I have been questioning the rotations also. It’s been perplexing. Almost like Spo decides he wants to see how things go with certain personnel and becomes fixated. hfl said it right, it’s a sposcratcher and it’s been going on all year. I only remember it being an issue occasionally until this year but now it’s almost all the time.

heatforlife

no feel for game dunc had couple good games didnt have sht tonight burks couldnt miss.so he plays dunc regardless over burks.ware looked as good as any big in the nba could look and hes playing rozier over him in the 4th.ive been saying this for years u give me the big 3 i get us 2 rings also.spobots a fraud

Reality Czech

We’ve been on this ride before and you keep coming back for another go round. Give you Jordan, Pippin, Rodman. Give you Shaq and Kobe. Give you Steph, Klay, Draymond. Give you Kareem, Magic, Worthy. Give you KG, Pierce, Allen. And so on. The odds of any coach in any sport winning a championship without great players is close to zero.

heatforlife

not always true kerr took over for jackson year or 2 later with same players they were parading or wearing jewelry.but yes especially in round ball players determine wins and rings not true in football.bottomline im trying to say spo is a fraud got dealt great hands,

Reality Czech

Right, and exactly which players? Oh yeah, young Steph, Klay, Draymond, Barnes, Iggy. You’re proving my point.

heatforlife

do u remember bum phillips>talking about shula he said he can take hisims and beat yoursems and take yoursems and beat hisems..hfl could have coached the big 3 to two rings.hfl could not have coached the dolphins to a perfect season in 1972 or to two superbowls

Reality Czech

Okay, but that only happened once. And you have better mathematical odds with only 16-18 games. And how many rings for Patriots without Brady and company? No matter how good Belichick coached or cheated, he wouldn’t win without those guys.
But, you might have had 3 rings with the big 3, because of your strategic brilliance. But then you would’ve had to pay Riley for using the word ThreePeat.

heatforlife

aka he doesnt have a ss anymore sun
