GAME PREVIEW: Heat look to build off biggest win of season against Trae Young’s Hawks

After undergoing an abysmal 10-game losing streak, the longest of coach Erik Spoelstra’s career, the Miami Heat have finally responded. They have secured back-to-back wins, including arguably the biggest one of their season on Tuesday night against Jimmy Butler’s Golden State Warriors.

Now they will look to keep it going, as they host the Atlanta Hawks before heading back on the road.

The Hawks have lapped the Heat in the Eastern Conference standings, sitting at the seventh seed and going 7-3 over their last 10 matchups. They are coming off a loss to the Houston Rockets and dealing with some availability issues as team with a loaded injury report.

However, they will be hungry for a bounce back victory inside the Kaseya Center. And Trae Young will likely be there to lead the way, who is listed as probable for tonight.

Miami will hope to continue getting All-Star efforts out of Andrew Wiggins, Tyler Herro and Bam Adebayo. Herro and Adebayo submitted strong efforts in the team’s most recent win, as Adebayo led with a game-high 27 points and 8 rebounds on 50% shooting.

Can the Heat pick up their third consecutive win for the first time since early January? Let us know in the comments!

If Miami wins tonight at home against Atlanta and Saturday in Philadelphia, the team will go into Boston next Tuesday on a four game winning streak. After Boston, Miami finishes the regular season as follows:

April 3 vs Memphis (44-28)
April 5 vs Milwaukee (40-32)
April 7 vs. Philadelphia (23-50)
April 9 @ Chicago (32-40)
April 11 @ New Orleans (20-53)
April 13 vs Washington (16-56)

Current #7 – #10 standings in Eastern Conference

  • Atlanta: 35-37 (7-3 in last 10 games)
  • Orlando: 35-38 0.5 gb (6-4 in last 10 games)
  • Chicago: 32-40 3.0 gb (8-2 in last 10 games)
  • Miami: 31-41 4.0 gb (2-8 in last 10 games.

It is highly unlikely that the Heat will catch either Atlanta or Orlando with 9 games to go. At best, they will catch Chicago and end up as the #9 or #10 seed. Miami would need to win twice in the play-in round to advance to the playoffs as the #8 seed against first place Cleveland. If that happens, they will lose their 2025 (lottery protected) pick to OKC. If they lose in the play-in round, they will retain their #8 – #10 range lottery pick.

Can we make it 3 Ws? This game will show us whether we might be getting better or the last two wins were just a coincidence.
We might meet Hawks in the play in, so it will be an interesting match up.
Let’s see what our team can do. I hope we can get better. I am sure this team (although obviously flawed as it is currently constructed) is not as bad as they looked during the 10 game losing streak.

Pretty much true. We are a little better than the ten game losing streak. The big difference is Wiggins showing how good he really is, and Mitchell exerting more and more impact. And Kel’el growing into his potential more every game. Those improvements, plus substituting better, has made us better.
But we are very thin. We really go only eight deep with Burks being eight. If he is out tonite it hurts us as the alternatives are a drop off. .
Still, tonite, our opponent is a decent matchup. And the Hawks aren’t as thin on the injury report as it seems, maybe only one important guy. So, it will be a fairly impressive win to take this one but it is within our realm. Let’s hope Rozier, if he subs for Burks, gives us something.
