2024 NBA Draft Tracker: Who do Heat plan to work out?

The 2024 NBA Draft,, which tips off on June 26, is less than three weeks away.

The Miami Heat own the No. 15 and 43 picks in the draft, the first time they have owned at least two picks since the 2019 NBA Draft, when they drafted guard Tyler Herro and forward KZ Okpala with the No. 13 and 32 picks, respectively. Assuming the Heat keep the No. 15 pick, it will also be their highest pick since that draft.

All that said, given they have multiple picks, the Heat will be casting a wider net with their respective workouts. Miami is notoriously a tight-lip organization; it doesn’t let many things leak. But we will try to track every prospect they are planning to work out below:

  • Devin Carter, G, Providence
  • Zach Edey, C, Purdue
  • Isaiah Collier, G, USC
  • Jesse Edwards, C, West Virginia
  • Tristan Enaruna, F, Cleveland State
  • Sam Griffin, G, Wyoming
  • Ron Holland, F, G League Ignite
  • Keshad Johnson, F, Arizona
  • Tristen Newton, G, UConn
  • Zyon Pullin, G, Florida
  • Kel’el Ware, C, Indiana
  • Joseph Girard III, G, Clemson
  • Marcus Domask, G, Illinois

Update: Saturday, June 8:

  • Tyler Kolek, G, Marquette

Update: Tuesday, June 11:

  • Tyler Smith, F, G-League Ignite
  • Kenan Blackshear, G/F, Nevada
  • Dillon Jones, F, Weber State
  • Boogie Ellis, G, USC

Update: Thursday, June 13:

  • Yves Missi, C, Baylor
  • Adem Bona, C, UCLA

Update: Friday, June 14:

  • Shane Hunter, F, Nova Southeastern
  • Jaylon Tyson, G, Cal

Update: Tuesday, June 17:

  • Mohamed Diarra, F, NC State
  • Quinn Ellis, G, Italy
  • Noah Penda, F, France

Update: Wednesday, June 18:

  • Pacome Dadiet, F, Germany

Update: Monday, June 24:

  • Terrance Shannon Jr., G, Illinois

Update: Tuesday, June 25:

  • Mantas Rubstavicius, F, New Zealand

Update: Wednesday, June 26:

  • Carlton “Bub” Carrington, G, Pittsburgh
  • Kyshawn George, G/F, Miami (FL)

Dillingham would be so tough it’s Maxey 2.0

oregoner

I want Collier. But I also wanted Justise Winslow, so take my opinion with a grain of salt

Zac

List of prospects is interesting, because based on the numbers you’d assume Miami is going for a back-up point guard or back-up center, but I’d argue their most pressing need is Forward, well athletic forward at least.

Jimmy is 700 years old and takes off what feels like half the regular season. Caleb Martin and Highsmith are likely leaving in Free Agency. Finding someone who can play the 2/3/4 to fill those minutes would seem to be vital, even more so if the Jimmy-geddon occurs.

Maybe Miami is high on Jamal Cain, or thinks the group of Butler, Love, Jaquez, Jovic and Herro can play a combined 144 minutes a night over the 82. Finding a back-up center to Bam, seems like a move a team that wasn’t in the play-in game should be considering, not Miami.

Quayzeze305

Trade up and draft Stephon Castle .

Either #3 with Houston by moving our five biggest assets (Herro,Duncan,Nikola,Jaime,#15)

Or #5 with Detroit

Have to move that 20-50 million in contracts by any means. Since I don’t get the feeling they’re not looking to win now they won’t .

These are the types of moves teams in win now think 2011 spurs when they moved up and drafted Kwahi .

The Nuggets when they traded for Aaron Gordon .

Our these Celtics when they traded for White,Holliday, and KP.

Pat Riley needs to step down he’s out here looking like Belicheck without Brady just horrible .

Reality Czech

Yeah, these last 5 years have been pretty much a total bust – no winning record, haven’t even sniffed the playoffs. We’re basically the same as Detroit, Washington, or Portland. Riley has totally lost the ability to put together a competitive team.

heat for life

the reason why boston and dallas are left is because of their gms.pat had jimmy and bam needed a little more like boston had jt and jb dallas had luka kyrie.problem is once jimmy retires or is traded im really worried about our future

SunManFromDogBone

If you are a “half glass full” kind of person, there is no reason to worry. If Miami trades Butler for Green, Brooks and 15th pick, they will still be a play-in team, at worst. If they also trade Herro and future pick for Murray, they will actually be better. If they draft or trade for two way C/PF who can spread the floor, they will be much better. Any way you look at it the glass is half full with a younger more athletic team

Reality Czech

If the Heat just got Garland or Markkanen (or others you’ve suggested) in a Butler trade, obtained Murray through a combination of Herro and others, draft a Ware or other solid pf/c, keep Jaquez, Jovic, Wright, and fill in with vets or one or more of the g league players, the team will certainly be no worse and will likely be better than it is now. And it would be better for years to come being younger and more athletic.

heat for life

no ss no rings.making playoffs will be goal i guess.

SunManFromDogBone

Absolutely! Those are excellent ideas.

The team can’t “stand Pat” while the rest of the league is moving forward. Look around at all the younger teams on the horizon…Boston, Orlando, Cleveland, Indiana, OKC, Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, etc. Plus, there are still several powerhouse teams that must be contended with, such as Denver, Milwaukee, New York and the Clippers, as well as teams in the same boat as Miami that are looking to re-tool, such as Lakers, Sacramento and Golden State. The Heat team, as currently constructed, cannot compete for a championship!

Bam needs to be surrounded with better/younger two-way players who are on the same timeline trajectory as he is. He’s going to be around for a while (hopefully his whole career) long after most of the current players are gone (with a couple of exceptions). It doesn’t make sense to go “all in” for one or two years of possible success with an aging/injury prone/overpriced/underproducing Butler, at the expense of the team’s future. If there was ever a time to re-tool and re-build around Bam, this is it.

GO HEAT!!!

HHHFAN4Life

Absolutely positively correct

SunManFromDogBone

Thanks. I’ve seen this picture before and know what happens when an organization fails to “strike while the iron is hot” and take strategic steps to evolve. Timing is everything!

Miami doesn’t need to tank to do that. It just needs a course correction to change the team’s stagnant trajectory. The team needs younger, bigger, more athletic two-way players and needs to play at a faster pace.

Reality Czech

See other comment. Is someone suggesting Butler is a superstar??? At the moment, imo, Butler is a B+ to A- player.

SunManFromDogBone

Butler was a borderline playoff superstar. He’s now a borderline all-star. Big difference. It wasn’t long ago the same folks who are now singing Butler’s praises were ragging on him.

Reality Czech

Truer words never spoken…

heat for life

in the world of sports its what have u done for me lately not what have u done your career.jimmys definitely declining but hes still your best player.its a really tough decision pat has im in the boat to retain him and get him some help.edey jon collins.we dont have enough to get donovan, murray etc..a lineup of mount edey bam jim jjj rozier.best lineup since big 3.

SunManFromDogBone

You may be right. But if you are wrong and Butler’s availability, production and value drop by the trade deadline, Miami will be lucky to get expiring contracts of washed up players and a pick (maybe) in trade. That’s a big risk to take. If Butler stays, can the Heat beat Boston or the other top teams?

Quayzeze305

Nothing to do with him as executive this is the will of Jimmy and Spo . But you swore Tyler Herro was a keeper after the bubble when we all knew that was a bad decision but you know ball brother .

Deadsori123

I was hoping that Miami is also interested in Kyle Filipowski. A stretch 5 offensive player that can also be a playmaker in pick and roll situation helping the Heat’s offense to not become stagnant.

But I understand that we also need a defensive center that can improve our defense and get rebounds and Ware is that guy for me.

SunManFromDogBone

Filipowski is Olynyk 2.0. Miami needs physical center or PF that can help lighten Bam’s load before Spo burns him out.

Reality Czech

i like him. Not necessarily as our first choice. The different mock drafts have the same players going in wildly different spots. But on one that I saw, I wanted to trade down with Toronto our 15 and 43 for their 19 and 31. On that one, we could get DaSilva or Missi at 19 and Filipowski at 31. Pure fantasy for sure, but I liked it.

Deadsori123

I like that trade. Missi as Bam’s reliever then a stretch big to help out our offense spacing like a Kelly olynk 2.0. In today’s NBA ,Perimeter-oriented big men who can shoot like a guard, handle the ball, and pass are always going to have a role in this league., big bonus if he can also be a defensive anchor which Kelly Olynk was not but his defense was still respectable enough to not be a huge liability.

Thats why I am hoping Jovic can still improve offensively and his defense to be polish more to be a young Kevin Love 2.0

SunManFromDogBone

Very interesting and thought provoking analysis of current situation in Miami. I don’t agree with everything they are saying, but I do agree that changes are necessary. Worth watching if you have the time.

vagibugi

A lot of talk about Butlers trade.. it just wont happen this summer.
But Herro and Dunc could be on the block.

HHHFAN4Life

It not about wanting too it needs to happen and yes the quicker the better.

https://youtu.be/tLIyL2kBrzA?si=sjGgbQmFay-JN9dv

BigO makes a great point

2qbn

If Jimmy doesn’t want it then it’s not going to happen. There is some PR involved. It’s not just a straight up contract/reload argument.

HHHFAN4Life

Aka I don’t want him to leave. It’s not contractual yet keeping him Mia makes no difference making moves this summer. What moving herro and Duncan gonna get Mia what exactly? Team will be in the playin and picking in the teens so long as PR is involved am I right

vagibugi

Yes, but not this summer, because I don’t see who interest might be this trade this summer.

Heat?
No, because they don’t need to extend him now. They can wait till the end of the year, feature him, and trade him after that. After an average season his price is low, it can be better after a good half season.
Jimmies?
No, he wants to get his extension, in Miami or somewhere else. He wont get it now from any team. A good half season can change that.
Other teams:
Philly:
No. They trade Jimmy basically for nothing 4 years ago, and they wont pay a lot for an older one.
Houston.
No. Houston overachieved last season, but still miss playin. They need more experience, and Jimmy doesnt fit their timeline.
NY.
Maybe. For Randle. Miami wouldn’t do it.
GS:
Never. They have enough of aging stars.

I thing nobody else would do it right now.

HHHFAN4Life

So instead of this summer those teams or others are gonna want Jimmy a year later. Whatever you say

vagibugi

Not a year later.

Reality Czech

There are definitely teams that would pay him the extension money and give the Heat players and picks, no doubt whatsoever. They can’t wait to trade him at the end of next season because he has a player option. If he opts out, he will be an unrestricted free agent and the Heat would get nothing.

SunManFromDogBone

This summer yes. Next year if he has another down year, not so much. Big risk for Miami.

vagibugi

Maybe I missed something, but on this particular forum I didn’t see anybody saying that Butler should be awarded with max. extension. Riley is also not willing to give him any right now, too.

I don’t understand, why any other team (or those teams fans, to put in the right contest) would agree to give Jimmy his extension, based on his latest performance, on the top of picks and players to Miami.

Reality Czech

I don’t think teams, or fans, will look only at this last season. I think they will look at what Butler has done in the last several seasons where he has been one of the best playoff players in the league. The type of player that might be the one piece to get you from contender to winner. As for compensation, Jae Crowder brought back 5 second round picks (!). For Gobert, it was 5 players plus 4 first round picks and 1 pick swap. Figure Butler to bring back something in between those 2. He’s obviously much better than Crowder, and not much worse than Gobert.

vagibugi

Teams or fans will observe exactly the same as Heat fans or Heat front office. Butler is a great player, had somehow an average season, but still earned every penny of his contract. There is a good chance to be at the same level next season, when he will be 35, and he opted in, a good chance to have a solid season at age 36.

Jimmy with such contract is worth a lot. A good player or two, and a first or two for sure.

My point is, that any request for extension rapidly decrease his price.

SunManFromDogBone

At the end of the season, Jimmy can opt out and become a free agent, thus leaving Riley, the team and us with our collective thumbs up our a****.

At the break, if he is having another subpar, injury filled season, his value will be much less than now. He can then hold a gun to Riley’s head and demand a trade to the team of his choice or leave as a free agent after the season. Like Dame but with the leverage of free agency on the horizon.

Sixers, Rockets, Nuggets, T’Wolves, Warriors, Jazz, Bucks, Knicks, Thunder and others would love to have Jimmy on their team. In case you hadn’t noticed, some teams are actually in “serious win now mode.”

HHHFAN4Life

At the break, if he is having another subpar, injury filled season, his value will be much less than now. He can then hold a gun to Riley’s head and demand a trade to the team of his choice or leave as a free agent after the season.

What?

SunManFromDogBone
  1. After the 2024-2025 season, Jimmy can opt out of his current contract and become an unrestricted free agent.
  2. If he isn’t injury free and playing well by the trade deadline, his trade value will be much less than it is now.
  3. Since he can walk away after the season, he will be in a position to demand to be traded to the team of his choice for whatever Miami can get.
  4. If Miami tries to trade Butler to a team he does not want to sign an extension with, the team will not want to offer much to rent him for less than half a season.
vagibugi

Sixers..I doubt it, because of the past.. Rockets, not the same timeline, Nuggets, that trade means to blow up their arguably the best starting lineup in the league, Wolves… well ,some history there, GS, never, Jazz, wrong timeline, Bucks… hardly… NY, Riley wont do it…

SunManFromDogBone

Working on a trade scenario to obtain a PF, SF and SG plus #3 pick and keep #15 pick. Here goes…

Houston receives: Jimmy Butler
Atlanta receives: Jalen Green and Steven Adams
Utah receives: Tyler Herro
Miami receives: John Collins, DeJounte Murray, Dillon Brooks, Tari Eason, #3 pick
(Miami drafts best available players at #3 and #15)

Starters: Rozier, Murray, *Brooks, Collins, Bam
Reserves: JRich, Duncan, Jaquez, Jovic, Love
Bench: #3 pick, #15 pick, Bryant, Wright, Free agent
G League: Williams, Swider, Cain

*Miami can package a deal with Brooks and pick for a proven SF such as Kuzma?

Reality Czech

Bleacher Report’s Greg Swartz called Butler the Rockets’ dream target
“Trading him now and building around 26-year-old Bam Adebayo, 24-year-old Tyler Herro, and 23-year-old Jaime Jacquez Jr. with some young talent from the Rockets should be under consideration by Miami.”
He also included the package the Rockets could give the Heat in exchange for Butler.
“An offer of Jabari Smith Jr., Amen Thompson, Dillon Brooks, and the No. 3 overall pick for Butler should at least be worth having for both sides.”

I would get a serious case of whiplash from how fast I would move to sign off on this trade! If they don’t want to keep thug Brooks, they can flip him for another player.

HHHFAN4Life

Tbh I’d be for a Jabari and brooks if that’s all they wanted to give Mia

Reality Czech

I think the pick would have to be included, even if we gave #15 in return.

2qbn

With the pick, but they also want to throw in Thompson? Amen!

Jimmy only gets traded if he asks for one if they don’t give him a new deal. I still think there is only like a 20% of that happening, but the trade pack rumors are fun

Reality Czech

Yup. If Butler doesn’t demand the extension or trade, and remains committed to the team, I’d be shocked if he was traded.

SunManFromDogBone

This article appeared in HotHotHoops on May 2, 2024. Jimmy Butler seeking two-year $113M max contract extension“According to Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald, Butler is seeking a two-year $113M max contract extension this summer. It is speculated that any failure to meet Butler’s demands will cause him to become disgruntled.”

I suspect Jimmy will request a trade if Pat doesn’t give him the extension this summer. I think Heat can get Brooks, Jalen Green or Jabari Smith, Amen Thompson or Cam Whitmore plus the 3rd pick for Butler. I agree, Miami should trade Brooks and maybe Herro, depending on whether they get Green or Smith. With the 3rd pick they would have their choice of young talent or package it with Brooks and/or Herro for upgrades where needed.

2qbn

It does say “speculated” based on Jimmy’s history, but that was before he found a true home.

I have no doubt that if Pat says no he will have to remind Jimmy that if that much money is going in to his pockets there will be less to put a better supporting cast around him. Jimmy has a right to want his money, but if he really wants to be a champion he will have to sacrifice some coin. The Big 3 did it so they could add a couple guys like re-upping Haslem and signing Mike Miller then later Battier. Tom Brady did it too. Your move, Jimmy.

Reality Czech

I also felt the key word was ‘speculated’. The fact is, we have not heard anything from Butler or his agent – yet. When they make clear what their position is, we’ll have a better idea which direction the team is headed.

SunManFromDogBone

Even if Jimmy agrees to a reduced price, Riley will need to work a small miracle to stay under the hard cap AND put together a championship contender.

The only way I see it is if Miami brings in a legitimate two-way big who can score, rebound, defend and spread the floor. They don’t need a top 20 scorer if all of the starters are capable of putting up 18-20 points a night and the bench (JRich, Robinson, Jaquez, Jovic, Love) are able to put up decent numbers.

As I have suggested previously, I would take a chance on *Zach Edey if Riley thinks he can get him in world class shape, if he is capable of developing a reliable 3 point shot and if Bam and the other defenders can make up for his lack of foot speed.
*Last season he averaged 25.2 points, 12.2 rebounds. 2.2 blocks and 2.0 assists while shooting 62.3 percent from the field and 71.1 percent from the free throw line

2qbn

Well let the rumor mongering begin. Jimmy flew out to Palo Alto.

Reality Czech

HA! He was in the Lakers area and GS area. Said 22 looks good in purple and gold.

SunManFromDogBone

Hopefully, this sets off a bidding war and the Heat can clean up in a trade. So long Jimmy and Good Luck!

2qbn

Ware, baby. I like my boy Pullin for some Gators love, but I prefer a C who can shoot or an athletic wing. Only guard I’m okay with right now is Carter

Last edited 6 months ago by 2qbn
Big_guy305

What about topic or holland if they slide?

2qbn

I don’t think Topic drops, but I would be okay wating a year for him. Holland fits in to my current draft wants which is a shooting big or athletic wing.

Big_guy305

A draft pundit can say that players will go to so and so teams, but you can’t always trust what they say ,especially in a weak draft class like this. Honestly it’s crazy how much talent we can get at the 15 spot. I would be happy with anyone of these players, even if my preferred choices get snatched up. If we can get one of these players such as : topic, carter, holland, ware, edey, dillingham, holmes, collier. Any of those choices would be A grade or above.

Last edited 6 months ago by Big_guy305
SunManFromDogBone

Hopefully, Miami takes best player available and uses trades or free agency to fill in the blanks. One way or another, the team needs a good two-way rotation big…preferably a. starter to play next to Bam.

Big_guy305

I agree, and i think pat Riley realizes that. Whether it’s edey, ware, holmes, valciunas, beef stew, collins, kuzma, etc.

Reality Czech

Holland said, and I totally agree, that it is not that this is a weak draft, but that it’s a draft without any game changers at the top. It actually, as you said, has many possibilities at our #15 spot. But this really needs to be the year and the pick where we really get a steal of a player.
Also, for a change, I’d like the 20/20 hindsight folks who point out the mistakes Riley made AFTER they see how good lower picks become to do so beforehand. IOW, when the Heat make their selection on 6/26, I’d like to know THEN who we should’ve taken.

2qbn

“I don’t know who we should have taken but I know we’re not wining it all this year.”

Saved them the time 😉

Reality Czech

The season just doesn’t feel complete without a visit from SASCF to say ‘I told you so’ like he did every year. 😆
