The Miami Heat have selected Arizona guard Pelle Larsson with the No. 44 pick in the 2024 NBA Draft after swapping the No. 43 pick with the Atlanta Hawks.

The Heat received cash considerations with their pick, thus hard-capping the Atlanta Hawks at the second apron.

I love this pick for Miami. Larsson was one of seven prospects I had previously pinned being a name to consider for Miami. Here’s what I wrote:

“But should they move on from at least one of Tyler Herro or Duncan Robinson, Larsson could be a player to help supplement production. His counting stats–12.8 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.7 assists–don’t jump off the whiteboard. But Larsson was one of Arizona’s top glue guys and one of the Pac-12’s most efficient 3-point shooters.

Larsson was the only player in the country to total 1,200 points, 500 rebounds, 300 assists and 100 steals while shooting at least 49 percent from the floor and 39 percent from the 3-point range from 2020-24. He was a smart, comfortable decision-maker as a secondary creator; he was also very comfortable running off screens, relocating and spotting up off-ball. Larsson wasn’t the perfect defender, but he wouldn’t be afraid to take on tough-er assignments and play both ends.

If you’re looking for a complementary, big guard who can be a secondary/tertiary creator, Larsson is as good of an option as there will be in the second round.”

Larsson, 23, averaged 12.8 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.7 assists on 51.9 percent shooting and 42.6 percent shooting from 3-point range on three triple tries per game. He was an excellent finisher around the rim, where he converted 69.2 percent of his attempts, per Barttorvik. He’s not an explosive athlete, but he’s deceptively strong and held his own on multiple assignments defensively.

Who knows what the rest of the Miami Heat offseason entails, but Larsson could be able to provide some sort of impact right away–which is atypical for 90 percent of second-round picks. He will jell well with this group, in my estimation. This is a good pick.

Being an Arizona guy I’m very pleased to see the Heat pick up a couple of high character, hard working Wildcats. They both have a shot at contributing in the future.
GO HEAT!

Love this pick. Love this draft. Now we do work with undrafted guys. I’m going to extend my streak and say we sign Pullin. Let’s go HEAT!

Great pickup, he’s versatile, an all around player, can shoot the 3 at good rate, big guard at 6’5 215, def a good pick.

Swedish Thunder Dan. This is how you build a roster with inexpensive contributors.
