More on the Butler part of that Bleacher Report article. Again, I agree:
I agree, Pat should test the market for Jimmy. It could be a win/win situation. If there is a market for him (such as an established player, a young up-and-coming player with potential, cash relief and a draft pick or two), it might just work out for the best for everyone.
On the other hand, if there is not a market for Jimmy from a team willing to pay him a top dollar extension, maybe that will be the dose of reality he needs to sign a “team friendly” extension (ala Knick’s Brunson and potentially Bridges). Otherwise, If he decides to walk next offseason, like Martin did, the Heat will get nothing.
Miami is going through a quiet retooling/rebuilding process right now, whether we/they admit it or not. Might as well make it official and go “all in.” Next player to trade is Herro.
I still don’t get it.
Why on earth would anybody give a lot in a trade for Butler, and extends him for long years and big money after that, if HHH experts thinks, that Heat shouldn’t extend him.
The gap between how Heat fans sees the Butlers value for Heat compared to how the random contender team GM suppose to see Butlers value for his team, its just astonishing.
GM has eyes, which saw exactly the same as we.
So its a midseason trade to a contender for role players and a low quality pick or two, or sign and trade after that, with 2nd round picks to Heat, or Jimmy goes for nothing next year, or Jimmy stays and sign an extension with team option later.
But there is not a big trade for Butler with a lot of picks and good players heading in the Miamis direction on the menu.
Who knows. Desperate teams do desperate things. It’s like real estate. You just need one buyer willing to pay the price. Bidding wars are even better. You don’t know until you try. Either “Emo/Mickey Mouse Hairdo Jimmy” is gone or he returns as “Playoff Jimmy” on a team friendly contract.
True.
Suns did that last year with KD, gave up their picks and good players. the results? Well, I check phoenix suns forum from time to time, and fans are not happy.
Better “Buyers Remorse” from the team that gets “Head Banger Jimmy” instead of “Playoff Jimmy” than Miami’s remorse for failing to sell when it was still possible (before trade deadline). If he walks away next summer and Miami gets nothing in return, it should cost Riley his job. Jus sayin…
If the wrong Jimmy shows up between now and the trade deadline, what are your options?
To pack Jimmy and pick and send him to Boston
Yup. The Patriots need all the help they can get.
The articles are not written by Heat fans, but by independent writers. A team overpays for a player if it might be that one piece that makes them a true contender. The Heat is not just one piece away.
Miami just needs one dance partner. OKC, New York, Denver, Milwaukee, Indiana, Houston, Golden State, New Orleans, who knows?
What I learned in years reading about NBA is, that independent writers are often more interesting in making noise then anything else.
The Heat is not just one piece away, neither are teams like GS, LAL, Grizzlies Pels, Rockets and Indiana.
The real costumers should be Twolves, Denver, Dallas, OKC, or NY, Philly or Bucks in the east.
But I don’t see any of those team would have interest in Jimmy.
Just need one interested team…not all. Riley is going to regret it if he doesn’t try and Jimmy ain’t what he used to be. Expiring contract(s), draft picks and a little cap space works for me.
From Bleacher Report. I agree:
”5 NBA Offseason Moves That Will Look Terrible in 3 Years.
Miami Heat Not Trading Jimmy Butler.
Kings Giving DeMar DeRozan $74 Million.
Spurs Trade the No. 8 Overall Pick.
LeBron James Committing to a Lackluster Lakers Franchise.
76ers Giving Paul George a 4-Year, $212 Million Max Deal.”
trading Jimmy Butler is a “win the offseason” type of move.
The Heat have a bunch of good players under-25 (Ware, Jovic, JJJ, and even Herro). Bam and Haywood are only 27. They aren’t desperate for young talent. And keeping Jimmy and Love (both 35) gives them a solid veteran presence, along with Duncan and Terry (both 30), the only two guys you would say are “in their prime”.
My point is, the Heat are a well built team. Tons of young talent, a couple talented, well-priced role players in their prime, and a couple talented old vets with a winning history.
In the short term, it makes sense to be disappointed that they didn’t make a splashy offseason move.
But in the long term, this is a team that with young talent and future cap flexibility, with enough good vets to compete in the playoffs (if maybe not for a championship) until the young guys are ready to step up.
Yes, Heat are a well built team, but not at the elite level. We need improvements everywhere. Butlers trade would only mean less elite talent.
agree. but this is where context matters.
The Heat have been the best team in the East for the 21st century. They’ve had more success in the past 5 years than teams like the Knicks, Sixers, Pacers, etc had over the past 30 years. They’ve had more success in the past 3 years than a lot of the ‘genius’ gm’s like Daryl Morey or Sam Presti had over their entire careers. And they’ve had more success with Jimmy Butler than the Rockers ever had with Harden, more success than Sixers ever had with Embiid.
So yes, I agree, it doesn’t look like they can compete for a championship this year. But that is a very short sighted view of team building. They look like they will be ready to compete for a Championship as soon as they free up some cap space, which could happen as soon as next season if Butler opts out. Or they can compete for a Championship if they can get a lead scorer to compliment Bam as the anchor and a collection of two-way role players and 3-point shooters.
Will they get there? Who knows. As Bad Bunny said, nadie sabe lo que va a pasar maniana. But no team in NBA history has been able to compete for a championship every year. The Heat have competed for Championships over the past few decades and over the past few years, and they will do it again in the next few years.

Put the fkn game on a normal station.Eric r u bz now
Dolphin season starts soon but im more excited about the heat now.For decades big time fins fan.Still am but success of heat has swayed me toward them.Starts at top with mickey and pat.Dolphins with ross are screwed
Lol, Miami #1 seed in LVSL. Congrats to the young guys.
Good group of young hoopsters! Might be our shot at a title.
Best shot at title cats next year
They will be contenders again. The reason, a great GM. People don’t understand why I can’t stand Riley, and I do think he is terrible. But, I became a Heat fan only five years ago. I didn’t like the team before even though they are my home team. I never watched Whiteside much, just caught the very end of Waiters. All I have seen is Pat’s performance after getting Jimmy. I have watched us make so many poor moves with very few good ones over that time,,especially the last three. And during that same time the Panthers have this superb GM, who has every answer, creatively addressing all needs. I do recognize and give credit for the two championship runs over that time, but the inability to augment our lineup, add to Jimmy and Bam, was also painful to watch. If you got on board when I did, every one of you would be disappointed in Pat.
Ulive down here and are a hoops fan who did u follow before.U were not here for the cunningham schafel years?.If u were mickey and pat saved the heat 30..But yes last few years hes been bad.All u have to do is look at nyk bost phily ind minn okc dallas gms the moves there gms have made
Riley and dwade are the miami heat. When im in my dying bed before i go im gonna thank those two for 2 decades of great bball.I can never disrespect riley but its time for him to retire ala shula belichic saban its time. Also time for a new head coach to.
You know I’m happy for you and all of SoFl for the great Panthers season. But you repeat the same thing about the Heat without being specific, so I’ll provide my agreements and disagreements. In the last 3 years, the Heat picked up Jovic, Jaquez, Rozier, and now Ware. All good imo. Johnson and Stevens have skills and potential to move up in the not too distant future.
When they gave Herro his contract, it was a fair one for what he had accomplished to that point. If you look at other players in exactly the same salary range, you’ll find some better and some worse. The biggest problem for him is availability followed by defense. But his contract was not out of line at the time. You know I hated the Lowry contract (I didn’t hate Lowry) and feel it absolutely prevented them from getting a better fit for the team. Riley’s problem was placating Butler, who wanted to play with his good buddy. Bad, bad decision. And while it came a little earlier, I also thought the Duncan contract was very bad. Duncan at $7-8 million would have been fine. Duncan at $17-19 million is insane.
Butler has been both the catalyst for their success, but also has contributed to their failures. In the miracle run to the finals last year, he was amazing. But the true mvp of the Boston series was Martin. And he was basically a no show in the finals and insisted afterwards that he wasn’t hurt. Then he was a no show again in the most recent season. If the star on your team doesn’t put forth the effort, the results will be disappointing.
Couldn’t have said it any better, your assessment was spot on, rec for you sir!
Thank you! I appreciate that.
I get holding Jimmy to the standard he sets for himself.
I’m also not gonna flame the dude for classic uncontrollable basketball injuries.
What I am gonna do is ask him to show himself and the team the respect they deserve and arrive in camp ready to ball out.
This ain’t Minnesota let him try to pull that same sh*t with Bam, UD and Zo in the gym.
Yup, he actually played through a pretty serious injury that one game.
Just look at what the heat have added the last 2 years compared to the best teams now ny bost phily.they left us in the dust.At one time we were even now were def trailing them.Giving bad contracts to ty and dunc have paralyzed the franchise.
To repeat:
”When they gave Herro his contract, it was a fair one for what he had accomplished to that point. If you look at other players in exactly the same salary range, you’ll find some better and some worse. The biggest problem for him is availability followed by defense. But his contract was not out of line at the time”
Heat young guys playing well, and blowing out the the baby raptors, unfortunately couldn’t watch the game, so I went to the gym.
A lot of bright spots
Who do you think is playing the best so far?
Hard to say. Christopher with a major bounce back game. Ware and Swider have been solid all summer. Pelle with his first solid all around game. Alondes. Stevens not shooting well, but with 7 assists, 4 rebounds, 1 steal.
what channel on
ESPN 3 or +
wtf is 3
ESPN3 or ESPN+. I only get 3 off Roku, but not on cable.
Of those 3, the one i would hate to see go to another team is Christopher. He is an amazing athlete, scorer, and only 22.
And a former first round pick.
If i had to choose 1 for a contract, I’d have a hard choice of Christopher, Swider, or Stevens.
Heck yea that’s too tough of a decision because I can see cases for all 3 of them. Hopefully we can trade herro or Duncan by the trade deadline. Then sign swider, also replace dru and pullin, with Christopher and Stevens for the 2 way deals.
Couldn’t agree more. I’d be just as happy with Christopher getting a regular contract.
Maybe he can get the same qualifying offer like swider and alondes, since they both got rescinded.
gonna be lots tough decisions on the youngens.i think these guys are better than ty or duncan.just my opinion.i know ty or dunc couldnt guard none of the youngens
muscles over the heat
Yes only because they had it on ESPN 3 and I don’t have that channel.
I’m pulling for Tor to make 25 pts this first half hehe
Almost lol
So how would someone else describe this first half? Oh yeah, just like this:
Man, those rappters is a bunch of scrubs . I feel sory for there fans. Heat only winning cuz of tronto tos.
Wahahaha! Nailed it
Forty point lead. Even if this is just summer league that’s amazing!
Raptors tanking so, so early?! lol
Haha. Looking at high summer league draft pick?
Great play by Pullin
42-12, wow!
swiderman!
looks like raptors will not make 10pts in this first
And there you go
now i feel pity for these raps young guns lol
Ware, Pelle, Stevens, Christopher all looking good.
yeah seems like every play they make: im nba ready…no i am ready…guys watch this…
