Former Miami Heat guard Patty Mills, who signed with the team in March, has found a new home. He signed a one-year deal with the Utah Jazz for the veteran’s minimum, ESPN NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski was among the first to report Wednesday.

Mills, 36, appeared in 32 total games in 2023-24–13 of them with the Heat, including five starts. He averaged 5.8 points on 33.8 percent shooting and a dastardly 20.8 percent from 3-point range. His 27.6 3-point percentage on the season marked a career-low by nearly seven percentage points, albeit on a smaller sample.
The journeyman will be playing for his sixth NBA franchise, entering his 16th NBA season. He’s also spent time with the San Antonio Spurs, Brooklyn Nets, Portland Trail Blazers and Atlanta Hawks.
He reunites with Jazz head coach Will Hardy, who was an assistant for six years (2015-21) in San Antonio when Mills was there. Similarly to when he joined Miami, the 6-foot-2 guard will take up the team’s last roster spot.
I am not sure how much juice he has left in the tank, but Mills will provide steady veteran leadership for Utah’s (young) guards in Collin Sexton, Keyonte George and rookie Isaiah Collier, a former McDonald’s All-American who Utah snagged No. 29 overall in the 2024 draft.
Mills joins three other Heat players, who were on standard contracts last year, who have since departed: Caleb Martin (76ers), Delon Wright (Bucks) and Orlando Robinson (Kings). Former Heat two-way Cole Swider also signed with the Indiana Pacers on a non-guaranteed contract while Alondes Williams remains an unrestricted free agent.
