Hot Hot Hoops senior writer Matt Hanifan will provide his take on the offseasons of all 30 teams for the next 30 days! Today, we are looking back on the Philadelphia 76ers’ offseason!

Previous Offseason Outlooks:

********************************************

Additions: Paul George, Caleb Martin, Eric Gordon, Reggie Jackson, Andre Drummond, Guerschon Yabusele

Subtractions: Nicolas Batum, Tobias Harris, Buddy Hield (sign-and-trade), De’Anthony Melton, Paul Reid, Terquavion Smith, Robert Covington, Mohamed Bamba, Cam Payne

Re-signed: Tyrese Maxey, Kelly Oubre Jr., Kyle Lowry, K.J. Martin, Jeff Dowtin

Draft: Jared McCain (No. 16 overall), Adem Bona (No. 41)

Hanifan’s Take: The Philadelphia 76ers, coming off a first-round exit to the New York Knicks, entered the offseason with only one guaranteed salary on the books: Joel Embiid ($51.4 million). They also had non-guaranteed salaries for Paul Reid ($7.7M) and Ricky Council ($1.9M)–the former being declined–plus Jeff Dowtin’s $2.2 million team option (that was also declined). The Philadelphia 76ers used their max cap space to re-sign Tyrese Maxey to a max, plus give a four-year max to free agent wing Paul George after his negotiations with Los Angeles turned sour. They also brought in veterans Eric Gordon, Andre Drummond and Reggie Jackson, while plucking Caleb Martin from the Miami Heat on a reasonable contract after his agency turned down a $58 million offer. I liked what they did in the draft snagging McCain, a sharpshooter, and a hyper-athletic big Adem Bona, a solid Paul Reid replacement. This is a lot of new pieces for 76ers head coach Nick Nurse to work with, so I’m curious to see how this group jells over the course of an 82-game season. They have talent and depth, but can they put it all together? That remains to be seen. I am genuinely curious how handing out a four-year max to 34-year-old Paul George–who’s played 70 percent of his team’s games just twice over the last five years–ages. If Philadelphia, who has been to just one Conference Finals since 1982-83, wins a title, then it’s a success. If they don’t? Well…….

Grade: B

Not bad players, but I am not impressed. They will be too old and worn out. No way they can survive full season and playoffs in good health with this roster.
4 year max to PG13? It’s kind of hard to process, right?

My playoff prediction for the 76ers:

Lose in the Second Round for the 500th season in a row
