The Memphis Grizzlies have signed Sioux Falls Skyforce guard Zyon Pullin to a two-way contract, Grizzlies reporter Drew Hill of The Daily Memphian first reported Friday.
A few hours after the news broke, the Skyforce–the Miami Heat’s G-League affiliate–made the news official.
As a result of signing Pullin to a two-way, the Grizzlies waived big man Colin Castleton. Their other two-ways are occupied by rookies Cam Spencer and Yuki Kawamura.
Pullin, 23, was an undrafted rookie with the Miami Heat in the 2024 NBA Draft. In fact, he inked a two-way ahead of Summer League, where the Florida alumnus struggled. In nine combined SL games, he averaged just 5.9 points and 1.9 assists in 14.5 minutes, oftentimes looking sped up when he was on the floor.
He eventually lost his two-way to guard Josh Christopher but remained in the organization. He signed an Exhibit 10 before getting sent down to the Skyforce, where he’s spent the entire season up to this point.
The 6-foot-4 guard has exploded through six regular season contests after an up-and-down Tip-Off Tournament. In those six games, Pullin’s averaged 24.8 points, 7.5 rebounds and 7.7 assists, shooting 53.5 percent from the floor and 42.4 percent (14-33) from 3-point range.
With Isaiah Stevens inking a two-way contract, Pullin’s on-ball role grew considerably–even when Stevens shared the floor with him. In 17 Tip-Off Tournament games, his usage rate was 15.9 percent; in six regular season games, that’s surged to 24.9 percent, showcasing better decision-making and more comfortability as a primary initiator with the ball in his hands.
Better yet, Pullin’s assist-to-turnover percentage was 0.9 percent (15.9 AST%, 15.0 TO%) in the Tip-Off Tournament; that’s surged to 24.7 percent (35.2 to 10.5%). He’s playing the most efficient basketball of his career, a huge byproduct of the Heat’s developmental staff over the last several months.
Nobody knows how many games Isaiah Stevens will be available for as long as the Heat have 14 standard contracts on the books–which limits the amount two-ways can be available. It will be up to Bryson Warren and Co. to step up in Pullin’s absence, which could be a very key loss if Stevens isn’t in Sioux Falls.
