Wow. The Heat just got blown out on their home court by a tanking team.

Hopefully this is a wake-up call for Riley. This Butler saga is dragging the whole team down. Trade Jimmy and let’s move on

We may really, finally, be getting closer to the trade after the Suns traded their 2031 first round pick to Utah for 3 lower first round picks. Do it!!

I dunno. I’m sure Riley doesn’t care about those picks. I guess that’s to grease the wheels to get Brad Beal out of town and get someone to the Heat. But who?

Reality Czech

Reply to  oregoner

I don’t think it’s about the picks. The deal is supposed to be for players plus the picks. It is about clearing cap space to bring somebody in by using the assets that you get in the trade. I anticipate you may get a rotation player or two. Then use a player or players plus picks to hopefully bring in someone you really want (Fox?).

yeah, I’m guessing the Heat are eyeing free agency the offseason after next. I believe Luka is plan-A and Fox is plan-B. Unfortunately, this means a season and a half of medicoricy before the Heat reach their ultimate goal. Similar to the Wade/Jermaine O’Neal years. That gamble paid off, hopefully this one will also

Could be worse, we could be the Sixers. Ten years of tanking leaves them with this crap team they have now, capped out for the next four years. Everyone is asking if Riley has lost it, Daryl Morey has never even made the NBA Finals and he’s capped out with the saddest team in the NBA for three more years!

Come on O, don’t you know they’re still in ‘the process’? It was originally intended to be a 20-25 year plan. 😆😆

oregoner

Reply to  Reality Czech

lol. The funniest part is that they started the process (i think in 2008?) by breaking up a team that lost in the second round because they wanted to win a championship. They haven’t been past the second round since

That’s exactly what it feels like to me as well – the Jermaine O’Neal years. I think they can still be competitive in the meantime. And watching Ware/Bam, Herro, Duncan, Keshad, Jaquez, Jovic, Pelle, and possibly Christopher and Stevens and others would be fun. In those previous years, Riley stacked the team with a bunch of aging veterans. Not much to enjoy then.

yeah, I hate to use the Blazers as a comparison, but the Blazers have spent four years losing on purpose, and they’re building around Sharpe, Scoot, and Clingan. The Heat have been in the ECF three times and won the East twice, and they’re building around JJJ, Jovic, and Ware. Seems comparable. Plus the Heat have Herro and Bam, while the Blazers have Simons and Ayton. The resumes on those players speak for themselves

So if you’re looking at the Heat without Butler as a pure rebuild, they’re at least as good as a team that spent the entire Butler era losing on purpse, tanking for draft picks, and trading away their best players.

I wonder if Miami can get Fox, Vucevic and Kuzma ($78.3M) for Butler, Rozier and Highsmith, ($78.3M) and three first round draft picks?

Reality Czech
Reality Czech

Perhaps ultimately. With the players we receive plus those 3 first rounders, maybe. But I think we might have to add in a sweetener/project. Pelle or Keshad?

oregoner
oregoner

Kuzma and Vooch contracts both go one season too long. They’re not good enough to stray from the plan. Fox is worth it, unless the Heat really think they can get Luka

Halfway in the season and Heat is 21-21. Just about right? Should we see this half-glass full or not?

Without Butler, half full.

With Butler, half empty.

I know SM doesn’t want Riley to trade for Brown, but Brown is on an expiring contract. If you trade him for Rozier, you get off Rozier’s $26+ million next season.

Does not matter what we fans want or not. Riles wil do whatever he thinks is good for the team. Even if we hate it. But for whatever reason i still trust that old timer

Yo! bro! I keep telling you that the apron does not come into play since that deal can be made straight up. It’s just that they don’t want him, or rather, that they don’t want his contract.

Brown and Beal are entirely different issues. Getting Brown would clear salary out after the season, which is what I believe the Heat want to do. Of course, Beal is better than Brown.

Yeah, I’m not blaming Butler for this loss, even though he is just quiet quitting as SM would put it. But his presence is such a negative right now.
