At this point of the season, the Miami Heat have the seventh hardest remaining schedule. And part of these daunting tasks began this week, with first a blowout loss to the Boston Celtics at home and now a road matchup versus the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday night.
The Thunder sport the top record out of both conferences, led by perennial MVP candidate Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. They have won eight of their last ten games, sporting a dominant 43-9 overall record.
OKC is coming off a 137-101 throttling over the New Orleans Pelicans. In that game, Gilgeous-Alexander led with a game-high 31 points.
Miami won’t have much time to bounce back from their embarrassing defeat to the Celtics a few nights ago. The game plan instantly shifts to competing against another league-wide juggernaut. To make things harder, All-Star Tyler Herro is again on the injury report— listed as questionable due to a stomach illness.
Newly acquired Andrew Wiggins struggled in his Heat debut. And coach Erik Spoelstra faces the challenge of finding a rotation that works for his new-look squad.
Offensively, it is a one man show for the Heat with Herro potentially sitting out again, and it’s not a pretty one. Bam Adebayo has averaged 22.6 points, 10.3 rebounds and 4.9 assists on 54% from the field and 61.1% true shooting over the last seven games.
Can the captain get enough help to pull off an incredible upset versus this contending Thunder squad?

2 dream LaMelo Ball landing spots if new Hornets ownership decides to start fresh
“…Ball would step in South Beach and immediately become their best creator and scorer. He’d look better in a defensive infrastructure like Miami’s. Bam Adebayo and Kel’el Ware would benefit greatly from a proficient passer like Ball. He can throw lobs with the best of them, but he’s just one of the most creative passers in general.”

I was impressed with first 6-7 minutes against Celts.
The rest of the game was a disaster, but this is promising.
We need to extend those minutes.
burks 2 mill dunc 19 sorry alex lifes not fair
Who is this Alex you speak of?
burks
Been meaning to bring that to your attention all season.
alec what is that
ok looked up alec in dictionary it means im a better overall player than a guy making 19 mil
lol
French Canadian with a Bavarian overtone and a bad moon rising.
rozier was a good player his whole career.hes not super old wtf happened to him.,hes unplayable
Ever since he arrived, he’s been trying to hard to impress. He needs to be more of a playmaker and less of a ball hawk and play within his game/more under control. Fewer 3’s more assists. He, like Jaquez, keeps trying to drive into one or more taller players and shoot over them. That doesn’t work!
hes always been a shoot first guard.had real quickness for a while.never a high % shooter but can score.hes not a playmaker hes a 2g in a 1g body .boy do we miss dru
Maybe it’s time for him to modify his game and do what the team needs not what he feels like doing. Otherwise, he’s going to find himself sitting at the end of the bench behind the part-time G Leaguers and the ghost of Josh Richardson.
team needs scoring hes just not good at that.stevens would open up shots for other players better than terry.i was surprised terry didnt get dealt i would have been more surprised if somebody wanted him
Nobody wants Terry, his game is too scary. Maybe as an expiring contract next season he’ll be easier to trade.
As long as the team plays tough defense, I can live with that. Teams like OKC, Boston, Cleveland, Memphis, Denver and others are at a level well above Miami’s. It will be a while before the Heat will have the personnel to compete with those teams. Hopefully, that will be by next season or in 2026-2027.
Between now and the end of this season is the time for Miami to evaluate it’s veteran players and develop it’s younger players. I suspect the Heat may decline to negotiate new contracts with some players, attempt to trade others, if possible, and choose not to exercise team options on others. Fortunately, excluding rookie contracts, several player contracts expire by the end of 2025-2026, including:
2024-2025 Expiring Contracts:
2025-2026 Expiring Contracts:
*$9,888,000 partial guarantee if team does not exercise option
**2026-2027 is none guaranteed team option
Thank you SM for your valuable information. Also, thank you for seeing things as close to how they really stand, as opposed to how we wish they were. We might be entering a period that will take some really complex finessing and an honest assessment of our personnel to catch up as quickly as possible, as we are not that far away and we don’t do tanking.
in bball u can get good very fast it helps to have a dwade thAT other players would love to play with..bam seems to be a pretty popular player hes got to be a gm in incognito sell his homies on south beach
We can get some salary relief from Dunc this year and Terry next year. It seems we can spend the money better in both instances.
If we can somehow get those two lottery picks I referred to in an earlier post PLUS make a strategic trade -or- pick up a young(er) free agent or two, this team can be transformed nearly overnight. When you stop to think about it, the Heat is undergoing a re-build/re-tooling process right before our eyes. Here’s a sample of a few players that may available to Miami if it receives two top 20 draft picks (at least one lottery):
Kasparas Jakucionis PG – Illinois (Lithuania) – HT: 6-5 – WT: NA – WING: 6-6 – Fr A floor general with size, great passing ability and a nice outside shot, Kasparas has been on a tear early in his freshman season, although has cooled off a bit lately. He does it all, impacts both ends and is a fearless leader on the court. His ceiling is probably top 5 and his draft range is ~5-12 at this point.
Egor Demin PG – BYU (Russia) – HT: 6-9 – WT: NA – WING: NA – Fr – Demin is a tall lead guard with a unique game. He has great court vision, great passing instincts and an awesome feel for the game at 6-9. He attacks close-outs well and is a good finisher in traffic. He’s also a capable shot-maker who has really improved hist outside shot, making him a complete offensive player. The BYU team has a number of future NBA level players on this year’s squad and Demin is the best of the bunch.
Thomas Sorber C – Georgetown – HT: 6-10 – WT: 255 – WING: NA – Fr – A big-bodied center who impacts both ends and rebounds the heck out of the ball. A breakout star for the Hoyas who has shown some really nice flashes.
Jeremiah Fears PG – Oklahoma – HT: 6-4 – WT: 175 – WING: NA – Fr – A lead guard with good size, court vision and shot-making ability. Gets downhill and can get into the paint at will. A good finisher who seeks out contact and draws a lot of fouls. His stock is flying.
Haman Maluach C – Duke (South Sudan) – HT: 7-2 – WT: 250 – WING: 7-6 – Fr – Maluach is an intriguing big man who has great length, size and upside. He defends the rim well and can step out on offense and hit the 3-ball. He needs to get stronger and play with more aggression. The tools are all there and the flashes he shows are really impressive – and he seems to be getting better and better every week.
Hugo Gonzalez SG – Spain – HT: 6-6 – WT: NA – WING: NA – Int.06 – Hugo plays a complete game and competes at a high level. He’s a talented shot maker, passer and has a special feel for the game. He moves well off the ball, is a great cutter and is a very capable play-maker/initiator as well
Asa Newell PF – Georgia – HT: 6-10 – WT: 220 – WING: NA – Fr – Newell is a hyper-active big forward with springs in his legs. He works hard on the court and does all the dirty work. Is very efficient with his touches and can hit the 3-ball. His stock is moving up. While he doesn’t have elite size he’s got a nice mix of athletic tools, talent and floor-spacing ability.
Boogie Fland PG – Arkansas – HT: 6-2 – WT: 165 – WING: NA – Fr – An ultra-quick lead guard who controls the pace of the game. A bucket who can score from the perimeter and is a deft ball handler who is tough to keep out of the lane. Will likely miss the rest of the season after having thumb surgery.
Rasheer Fleming C – St. Josephs – HT: 6-9 – WT: 240 – WING: NA – Jr – A burly, strong and intense PF/C who impacts both ends and can hit the 3pt shot. His breakout junior season has boosted his stock into first round territory.
Excellent info. Two picks would give a lot of hope.
tough d from dunc ty jovic lol
Just not another blowout pls.
under 15pts good?
Nah…under 5pts haha
My guess is they are going to let Herro rest considering this might be an L anyway and gear up for an all out blitz in Dallas to get that W.
Yes, Duncan in the starting lineup opens up triggers and he commands gravity that other guys don’t command yet.
It would be nice to play a hard fought game and see Wiggins start to figure out his role.
commands gravity great line there.is his 3pt % really gravity commanding.hes been an average shooter every year besides one year .false statement duncs sharp shooter.he got to 1000 fastest cause every friggin shot was a 3 .hes unplayable with that dunc d.sorry ill never change my mind on 90 mill$$ mistake.man
The contract has ZERO to do with his ability. Tons of guys are under and over paid.
Anyways, when you’re the fastest to get to 1000 3 pointers in NBA history I think that creates a ton of gravity.
Hopefully, that gravity gets him traded for young talent/draft picks this summer.
not happening duncs of the world are extinct, they were all over nba in the 60s when they had guys doing chest shots and underhand free throws
when almost 90% of your shots are 3s sure helps.
If it was so easy Alex Burks would have done it 10 years ago. 😉
I love how much Duncan riles you up. Once he’s gone after this season you’ll be like we need more 3 point shooters! 😛
burks was never given oppty to be a big minute guy anywhere and i guarantee his shot selectiop was not 85% 3s duncs offense is ok hes an above avg shooter.hes not elite.its the defensive end that pat riles me up.i like the kid.hes very likeable.good podcasts gives 100% effort 100% of the time.but im sorry his defense just gets me going.i want the best for the team him being on the ct is not the best for the team.
Again, nobody did it as fast as Duncan. You can say this or that, but again, if it was so easy, he would not be the fastest. 😉
Duncan is a good player, definitely belongs in the league. Was his contract a mistake, yes, but only a little. And, you do know when a contract is a mistake when the player becomes untradeable even though he has some assets. It’s not just Dunc though, as if we only had one player with Dunc’s limitations, he would help us more. But, when you have redundancy in player limitations, it has a cumulative effect as you can’t hide the limitations as well. That’s why we should say goodbye to Dunc this year, but only because he is making so much. He has been a very nice player for us and his three point record is quite an accomplishment.
Correct. If he was making $10-12 million, it would be easier to overlook his deficiencies. It may surprise some, but I wasn’t against Lowry. If he had received $8-10 million instead of $28 million, we could’ve added another player in the $20 million range. That could have changed a lot of things.
Yes, the comments we make about the value of a player are mostly made in the context of their salary.
I will fess up also that when Lowry first came here, I was happy. I believed everything Jimmy said back then. But, Lowry taught me early on that there are players who really only want to ride their last years out and get whatever salary a GM will shell out. Even when Lowry was still playing ok in his first year, he took a few games off for what I think was referred to as personal leave, and that’s when I knew he didn’t have the best attitude. Plus, he was pudgy.
Lol, as we saw a few days ago, he is still quite‘pudgy’.
I think there are teams that can afford to bring Duncan in on an expiring contract as a hired gun/mercenary. Especially playoff teams which have poor team 3 point shooting, like Houston (34.1) and Orlando (30.5%).
I would like to see Miami sign Burks for three years on an affordable price. Seems like a reliable scorer and a good bench/locker room guy. If he is signed, Duncan is expendable.
I’ve said the same thing. 3 years, $21 million works for me.
I was thinking more like $12-$15M for 3 years. He’ll be 34 this year. I think he would jump at it for the financial security and the job stability.
