Poll: How would you grade the 2024-25 Miami Heat season?

Good morning, friends.

Before we start, I just want to say thank you for reading throughout the 2024-25 season. None of this would be possible without you, so all of us here at HHH thank you endlessly. The season may be over, but there will be plenty of offseason content ahead, especially from yours truly.

Now, let’s get into it!

This season sucked. Let’s not sugarcoat it.

The Miami Heat suffered their two worst postseason losses in franchise history on their home court, losing by 37 in Game 3 and 55 in Game 4, five points away from an NBA record for worst point differential in a playoff game.

They were mercifully swept by the Cleveland Cavaliers, who outscored the Heat by 122 points, an NBA record. Miami finished with its worst regular season record since 2014-15, lost out on a lottery pick and lost sight of the #HEATCulture™ that was the backbone of the franchise for 30 years. Never wear those jerseys again, please.

Now that it’s (finally!) over, how would you honestly grade the 2024-25 Miami Heat season?

*******************************

Hanifan’s Take: There weren’t many positives to take away from this season. A few I listed in the offseason blog were Herro’s career year, finding a legitimate frontcourt partner next to Adebayo (who developed quicker than anyone thought) and Davion Mitchell’s emergence post-Jimmy trade.

To some extent, I was scratching the bottom of the barrel for anything. It was an incredibly disappointing season and it only highlighted how directionless they appear to be. Change is needed. I won’t promise anything because I’m not in the front office. I’m just a writer who’s still compartmentalizing everything that’s happened over the last calendar year. I’ve probably forgotten more basketball than Pat Riley and Erik Spoelstra know; I never once said I was or am smart. I try to tell the truth like the rest of you.

There were (some) positives. But there was a whole lot more drama and rudderless play. I’m not sure if it was an abject failure (am I being too optimistic?!), but it’s definitely not far from it. And they can’t follow up with an offseason that’s anything close to what it’s been the last few summers. It may take a while, but let’s have a clear direction and tangible change to get us back to sustainable contention–whether that means taking a few steps back and collecting assets or the inverse.

Hanifan’s Grade: D

the nba all one way team luka ty trae kat vucevic, dunc made 4th team all one way team

Iknowtoomuch

Can’t wait for Riley’s post season presser. Will he tell someone to shut their mouth?

vagibugi

D- for everybody.
-Front office because poor handling of Butler situation, poor offseason decisions, questionable trades. F is not only because trading for Mitchell.
-Coaching: Poor and predictable offence, doesn’t play players according their strengths. Loosing. No young players improvement. F is not because playing Ware big minutes and playing Pelle.
-Players. Because they play like shit most of the year. F not because of Herro, which improved.

heatforlife

ty and dav were bright spots def.maxy bam stayed at same ok level never the level he could prob attain if he put his mind to it.jjj and ware regressed.the biggest loser was pat.we cant stand pat at gm.sunman needs to apply for job .mans paid his hhh dues.

vagibugi

Sunman must stay on HHH full time.

heat for life

would u rather have a better hhh or a better heat team?

vagibugi

I have no answer. You got me this time.

Alien

What makes you think he will make a better GM. His track record on HHH is terrible.
1. He wanted the Terry Rozier trade who turned out a fluke, then he rationalized by saying,’ who knew Rozier will have a bad year?’
2. He predicted that the Heat ‘s season of 2024 will turn around if they got pg. They got one and ended up in their first play in tournament in franchise history. Again he rationalized it to Rozier getting hurt before the season. 2025 Rozier is healed and yet still underperformed.
3. He and I were on the opposite sides of the debate if the Heat should go for the 2 draft picks and not make the play off. He opted for the Heat going into the play off . Well, he got his wish. The Heat got bitten so bad that they set a record franchise history on the widest margin loss and lost the opportunities for 2 draft picks. Very debatable topic though. What do we get from him, yet another rationalization. He followed it up by reposting an article he got somewhere on why it was fit for the Heat to have been bitten in the first round . He then has added that he will not dwell on what has happened but rather look forward. He has come up with those pseudo boring ( to me) trade scenarios, I have learnt not to read.
4. He has been pissed off with Butler for leaving Miami and labeled him the ‘ quitter ‘. Then turned around and said in a way he is glad Riley pissed Butler off so much that he left Miami. Hello!?Another rationalization.

A GM should never have to rationalize his failures. Simply admit that you were wrong and move on. Don’t drag others into it and claim whoever thought otherwise for goodness sake. We all have got it wrong one time or the other and no one called us on it because we accepted we got it wrong and moved on rather than rationalize out our prior positions.

This is not a knock on him but just putting it out since you are promoting his ” accomplishments,” and this is not to say it is a job that I am interested in. Good luck to whoever sits in that chair!

I’m sure SM will provide his own response, but I do have a couple of thoughts.
Based on his (Rozier) career numbers, I don’t see how anyone could have predicted that he would have such a bad season. He averaged over 20ppg for 5 years with Charlotte, admittedly a non playoff team. He averaged over 16ppg with us before getting hurt last season.

Like you and I, he was for getting the lottery pick until the Heat qualified for the play-in. Then he was ‘play your hardest and let the chips fall where they may’. I don’t see that as a bad approach. I can tell you that here in the RC household, I found it difficult to hope my team lost, but I hoped exactly that in each of the play-in games.

As for trade proposals, I read them all the time on Bleacher, Yardbarker, HoopsHype and other sites. I like to evaluate them and decide if I think they’re fair and would help our team. I appreciate that those proposals and about $6 will get you a cup of coffee at Starbucks, but I enjoy it.

I like reading everybody’s comments here even if I disagree with the writer’s opinion.

Alien

Thank you for your response, though we sometimes disagree. Your comments are one of those I do read because you are candid, and lace them with humor sometimes , wish they were more.
Rozier, I knew he was not the answer for the Heat as good a player that he is. I was not swayed by his NC numbers. I looked at his strengths, weaknesses and pointed that he will be a square peg in a round hole which he turned out unfortunately to be. He is a volume shooter and not very accurate. The Heat system does not allow for a volume shooter. His offense is limited and not very good defensively. The rest is history.
SM, I have no doubt will respond and I welcome contrary opinions. Otherwise how do we learn? Hope he holds the discuss to a respectable level and deviate from name calling and derogatoriness.
The reason I wrote my comment like I said is not to put a knocknon him. But as some are pushing for changes in the FO of Heat’s organization. There are attributes a GM should not have, one of them being ALWAYS rationalizing your view points when things don’t go your way . The Heat should take that into consideration if looking to shake things up.
.

Thank you too.

SunManFromDogBone

OK Alien, here goes.

“1. He wanted the Terry Rozier trade who turned out a fluke, then he rationalized by saying,’ who knew Rozier will have a bad year?”

You are right. I was wrong.
At the time of the Rozier trade, I was looking at getting rid of Butler’s 38 year old buddy and his $28.5M contract for a younger, more athletic scorer known as “Scary Terry” who was averaging 23.2/3.9/6.6 for Charlotte at the time. It was a good trade during 2023-2024 when Rozier averaged 16.2/4.2/4.6 as Miami’s 4th option behind Butler, Herro and Bam.

I also take full responsibility for not predicting that his game would fall off the edge of the earth this season. There is absolutely no excuse for being unaware that he has been/is currently under federal investigation for gambling irregularities (which I am sure has been messing with his head and his game).

“2. He predicted that the Heat ‘s season of 2024 will turn around if they got pg. They got one and ended up in their first play in tournament in franchise history. Again he rationalized it to Rozier getting hurt before the season. 2025 Rozier is healed and yet still underperformed.”

Uh, you are wrong on this one.
I don’t know where you have been but 2024 was actually Miami’s second play-in tournament in a row. In 2022-2023, they went from 8th seed to the NBA Finals. You remember “Playoff Jimmy” etc. As a diehard Heat fan, you should have known that.

“3. He and I were on the opposite sides of the debate if the Heat should go for the 2 draft picks and not make the play off. He opted for the Heat going into the play off . Well, he got his wish. The Heat got bitten so bad that they set a record franchise history on the widest margin loss and lost the opportunities for 2 draft picks.”

Actually, we were on the same side of the debate for a while.
After the months long Butler fiasco and the 10 game losing streak, I couldn’t wait for the season to end and for Miami to get their own (lottery) pick plus Golden State’s first round pick. When the Heat went on the 6 game winning streak, it became apparent the players hadn’t given up on themselves yet and were still trying to win in order to make the play-in tournament. I thought, what right do Riley, Spo or Heat fans have to burst their balloon by throwing in the towel/letting go of the rope/tanking/quitting on them like Butler had done? As the 10th place team, I didn’t expect them to win two road games to make it into the playoffs (especially against Chicago), who they were already 0-3 against this season. I still expected them to be in line for a lottery pick. Once they did win, I never expected them to be able to beat Cleveland. However, I did support them and cheered for them, as hard as it was to do after game 3. As a result of making the playoffs, the team’s 2025 (#15) pick goes to OKC and Miami gets to keep it’s 2026 pick (which may very well be a lottery pick.

“4. He has been pissed off with Butler for leaving Miami and labeled him the ‘ quitter ‘. Then turned around and said in a way he is glad Riley pissed Butler off so much that he left Miami. Hello!?Another rationalization.”

I was and am still pissed off at Butler for the way he left and am glad that he is gone.
He initially said he would be waiting until the end of the season to make a decision about whether to opt in or opt out of his contract. He also said it wasn’t about money since he already had more than he would ever need. Once Riley confirmed he had no intention of trading him during the season, Butler began dogging it (quiet quitting), acting up and behaving in a way that was detrimental to the team. He quit on his teammates and the city, revealing he could gaf about them or the fans. He intentionally became a disruptive cancer on the team. Like Riley, he allowed his ego to control his actions. Again, he could gaf what effect it was having on his teammates. The only thing he wanted was revenge against Riley, a change of scenery and a pay raise. He intentionally lowered his trade value by behaving the way he did, which made it easier for one of his preferred destinations, Golden State, to make a lowball offer (Wiggins, Anderson and a pick) to get him. Once the “Butler cancer” was gone, Miami was in a position to begin the long process of re-tooling/re-building the team. Davion Mitchell was subsequently obtained in a separate deal with Toronto. So, to repeat what I have said before, Butler is a quitter and I’m very glad his @$$ is gone.

Summary

“This is not a knock on him but just putting it out since you are promoting his ” accomplishments,” and this is not to say it is a job that I am interested in. Good luck to whoever sits in that chair!”

I apologize for joking about wanting Riley’s job. I was wrong.
In reality, I am retired and living comfortably in the San Diego area (not too far from Butler’s home in Poway). I never pretended to be interested in Riley’s job. That was heat4life’s attempt at humor which most folks on HHH got and went along with. Apparently, you and Hothothoopsfan4life were the only ones who didn’t get it.

GO HEAT!!!

P.S. I still think Riley should retire. His time has come and gone.

im serious sun

SunManFromDogBone

So am I heat.

heat for life

dam sun all those brilliant ideas u have would help the heat take a break from hhh and help our team.ok help both with alien and hot hoops your thoughts are needed here as well

SunManFromDogBone

Thanks heat. I think I’ll take your advice. The season is over and the draft is a month and a half away. I hope Riley doesn’t go whale hunting this summer. The Heat needs to shed salary after next season and work on developing our young players (including the 2025 and 2026 draft picks). Next summer will be the time to implement big changes. Who knows, Miami may even qualify for a lottery pick in 2026 (which is again projected to be a strong class at the top).

heatforlife

if theres an antman coming out in 26 id go 0 82 and just watch panther games.ty and bam have to be 3rd and 4th options if still on team.if one of those is 2nd option im not meeting rc and 30 bisc blvd in july

Bout30man

And it’s not like we got forever. I don’t want to be using a cane or a walker in those crowds.

heatforlife

got 15-20 30

vagibugi

There is nobody on this forum capable of being a GM, but not because of lack of knowledge of game or players. That form a small part of their jobs, and they have teams to handle that.

A good GM is a ruthless and ignorant bastard with enormous ego, which have no problems making or breaking players carriers and lives.

Riley is exactly that. I m quite sure Sunman doesn’t fit that description.

SunManFromDogBone

If we had a better heat team we would have a better HHH (more flavor…less trolling). It doesn’t necessarily work the other way around.

heatforlife

same with duncan

Alien

The playoff games exposed more than we wanted to see.

It was a D and I had called this 2025 season , ‘ the preseason training for 2026’, all along following Jimmy’s exit.

oregoner

I give this season a D…for Deez Nutz!

Bout30man

Even in its brevity,,got to be the best comment of the day. The other question is, after all this time why do I still think that’s funny.

Reality Czech

I’d like to use the courtroom plea of guilty with cause. The season was doomed from the start with the Butler debacle. That lingered up to and beyond the trade. However, the performance against Cleveland was inexcusable. Losing is one thing, but I had to shut 1 game off in the 3rd quarter and 1 at halftime.
As I, and now others have stated, everything and every player should be on the table this offseason. But I don’t think there will be any changes in the management team, except for maybe assistant coaches. I’m not saying there shouldn’t be, just I don’t think there will be.

SunManFromDogBone

The team’s failure lands squarely at the feet of Pat Riley. The honorable thing for him to do is retire so someone else can come in and clean up his mess.

Reality Czech

But do you think that will happen?

SunManFromDogBone

It should. Even Arison must have seen the decline in his performance. Insulting Butler publicly last year then getting into a pissing contest with him IS NOT the way to build a contending team. Another mistake was not trading him when his stock was high. Getting fleeced by Golden State was another mistake. He created the problem and compounded it with additional poor decisions. In any other business he would have/should have /would be fired.

heatforlife

i know in football if a team loses like this coach or asst coach fired on black monday.mickey will never fire his best friend or their step child its a family thing.im ok with spobot here cause coaches dont matter that much.its up to sunman to send his resume to the heat work from home and get busy reloading this mediocre team.we are not far away one go to player and some athletes .i believe in sunman

Reality Czech

When the Butler trade was done, we were literally within 24 hours of being stuck with a malcontent for the rest of the season. Not long after, many people (I believe you were one) felt that they did the best they could under the circumstances, getting 3 players plus a first round pick. While Wiggins missed time due to injuries (not his fault), he averaged 19/4/3 with the Heat. Unfortunately, in the playoffs, he caught trs (Terry Rozier Syndrome). No one predicted that. Mitchell turned out to be at least a solid backup pg who has played textbook defense. And slo-mo was a decent addition as well. IMO, no way did the Heat get fleeced.
As for Butler, the FIRST MISTAKE was not trading him when I advocated doing that in February 2024. He had already checked out due to not getting the extension long before Riley called him out. It might have been better to do that privately, but I was fine with it. When a player who dogged it the entire season, then is unavailable for the playoffs, tells Boston and New York they would have lost if he was playing, I think he should be told to stfu. Riley is unquestionably responsible for the current state of the team, but Butler the quitter must be looked at as responsible as well.

heatforlife

jimmy came here to take over the city for d wade everything was ginger peachy until he realized that this is not a champ roster and he didnt want to be here.so he dogged his way out of here and is still playing and we are the embarassment of the playoffs.when u have a ss u kiss their ars rc pat did same sht with lebron.wigigns is a nice player (above average)dav is a good backup pg or possibly low quality starter.and slo mo makes plays everytime he plays.but compared to jimmy not equal value.jimmy is playing an elite level and it should be with us.thing about jimmy he knows when to take over and when to get his teammates going.i hope he never gets a ring though

Reality Czech

I don’t care if he gets a ring or not. But when you have a player on your team who deliberately is not playing very hard, and is making a lot of money, you kick his butt out the door, not kiss it.

heatforlife

when he saw the crape around him he said f this im out.a good way to get out is not try hard.when pat saw how small they were vs lal jimmy did to and didnt do anything to rectify that till ware guanteed jimmy was not happy with that especially after seeing little bam on joker what a joke that was.pats fault 100% way i see it.pats mistakes caused jimmy to act the way he did.i disagree with the way jimmy handled it but he was frustrated with pats players around him.

Reality Czech

Hold on. He checked out and started dogging it the season AFTER they went to the finals against Denver! The season before that, they lost to the Celtics in the ecf . How could he possibly have felt they didn’t have enough? It was finals, loss in first round, ecf, and finals.

heatforlife

because he was the whole team and he didnt want to shoulder that anymore.just like lebron needed wade jimmy needed another dawg with him which pat never got him.he got that with caleb for a series but who the f really helped him out.he was amazing for the most part in the playoffs minus that last lal game where he was spent.the man needed another dawg pat never got him one.adios to miamithats the way i believe jimmy was thinking.after ad torched us it was time to get a big never happened, joker killing us thats straw broke camels back.im mad at jimmy for what he did but more mad at silver hair

Reality Czech

He had the best 4 year stretch of his entire career with the Heat.

heatforlife

he was aging couldnt carry rileys sht anymore.lebron did the same thing.coming here.

Reality Czech

Yup, and they both had their best years here.

SunManFromDogBone

Correct. I did think the team did the best they could do. Riley painted himself into a corner and had very few options. Butler was calling the shots about where he would accept going to and accept an extension agreement from (Phoenix, Golden State, Houston and Dallas). I felt Wiggins was a good part of the trade package, based on his career stats. Anderson was a throw in (filler), along with the draft pick.

Miami didn’t acquire Mitchell as part of the Butler trade. P.J. Tucker was acquired by Miami as part of the multi-team Jimmy Butler deal. Specifically, Tucker was acquired from the Utah Jazz as part of this deal. Riley gave up a second round pick to acquire Tucker from Utah. In a separate deal made after the Butler trade, Riley gave up another second round pick, PJ Tucker and cash considerations to acquire Mitchell from Toronto.

I agree Butler should have been told to stfu, however, not in front of the whole world. Any HR specialist, (which I was before I retired) will tell you that you don’t reprimand employees in public. You do it behind closed doors. That was a very stupid decision by Riley because he allowed his ego to get in the way. After doing so, he publicly stated he would not consider trading Butler until after the season. That was another mistake. Then, when it became apparent to everyone that he would be forced to trade him, he waited until the very last minute letting the cancer fester on the team for several weeks until he was forced to take whatever Golden State wanted to offer at the trade deadline.

I agree, Butler has his share of the responsibility in what happened. However, Jimmy is gone now. In the end, it is management that must be held accountable for this lost season. That accountability rests entirely on Riley’s shoulders.

Reality Czech

Let’s also not forget that Butler initially said he’d go anywhere as long as it wasn’t Miami. That was another lie. He wanted to go ‘only’ to Phoenix and the only way at that point to pair him with KD and Booker was to try to dump the Beal contract on us. Thankfully, we passed.

SunManFromDogBone

Yup. By not trading him much earlier as you have suggested, Riley gave Butler the keys to drive the team bus into a brick wall before he exited stage left.

heatforlife

thats just saying how much he hated it(pat) down here.beal and wiggy dav not much difference talent wise.contract wise yes

Reality Czech

Well, hello, the contract was exactly the problem. I wouldn’t have been against Beal being here except for the contract.

heatforlife

beals pretty done rc contract no contract,u dont get jewelry with beal.id rather have wiggy.im not going to judge him on abad cleve series hes a pretty good player a 4th option.hes poor mAns version of mikhail bridges

Reality Czech

Again, you’re very funny. When the deals were being discussed, you wanted the Heat to get Beal despite his contract and said how good he is.

heatforlife

no big ego guys dont go down like this

Reality Czech

Not sure what you’re saying or responding to?

heatforlife

bam and ty knew they had no shot with pats roster so they mailed it in game 4.tys looking to the future $$$ its a miracle ty did not get hurt this year but he just got worn down. when ty is fresh theres not to many better offensively.bam saving himself for next year.our 2 best players made a business decision about game 4.

Reality Czech

Oh yeah, I don’t doubt that at all. But now here comes another crossroads. As much as I think Herro is a solid 2 or 3 option, I think it would be the next huge mistake if they give him an extension anywhere near the going rate of $50+ million a year. His value has never been higher than it is now. If there was ever a thought of trading him, this is the year.

heatforlife

with his lack of d and injury history until this year i dont think other teams value him like u do rc.i wish u were the gm of milwaukee

Hothothoopsfan4life

Yeah he definitely overrates herro…for the tenth time his best role for the Miami heat is and always has been 6th man

heatforlife

100% agree

Reality Czech

And you possibly underrate him. So we are even. If he gets traded, we will know exactly what his value is.

heatforlife

port utah said thanks but no thanks.

Reality Czech

That was then

SunManFromDogBone

I can think of several teams with young players and BooKoo draft picks that might be very interested in acquiring Herro. Especially teams that have below average 3 point shooting e.g., Orlando, Brooklyn, Utah, San Antonio, Washington and Houston to name a few.

heatforlife

he scores 20 gives up same what good is that.its like the chargers with fouts winslow brooks

SunManFromDogBone

Good defensive teams who need 3 point shooting (e.g., Orlando and Houston) can cover his defensive shortcomings). It’s his 3 point shooting they need. For that matter, they could use someone like Robinson off the bench (as a hired mercenary). The only issue is the contract amount.

Last edited 19 days ago by SunManFromDogBone
heatforlife

ty is not as good as pritchard.pritchards tough as nails can guard much better than herro.pp on a team with tatum brown porz holiday white.like 6th option put him on heat hes tyler herro with a little d shooting 15-20 shots a game.ty does nothing for me or winning rc

Reality Czech

It’s opinion man. Mine is as valid as yours or anyone else’s.

heatforlife

thats sports rc opinions.mines as good as yours and vice versa.sports talk.maybe one day we could debate about rock bands, top 3 for me sabbath zeppelin deep purple

Reality Czech

As usual, you’re totally wrong. Top 3 has to be The Cowsills, The Archies, and Spinal Tap.

Bout30man

What about Freddie and the Dreamers?

Reality Czech

I’m telling you now that they definitely belong on the list. 😀

heatforlife

the duncans of rock mine are the lebrons of rock

Alien

Though you did not say so, I agree that any coach change should not touch the head caoch, Spo. Otherwise, with a new head coach the Heat may be looking at 5 years for any stability.

Reality Czech

Or, like other teams, have a musical chairs rotation of coaches where there’s a new one every 2 or 3 years.

Hothothoopsfan4life

Herro couldn’t get past Sam Merrill and dean wade lmfao he’s not that good 4 points in an elimination game in which he said before the game Mia weren’t getting swept also saying out his own mouth he needed Jimmy wtf even if he felt that way why say it out loud.

Reality Czech

You are absolutely entitled to your opinion. And that’s what it is. And that’s what this is, a forum of different opinions. Pointing out a 4 point effort is a fact. Very poor, though the whole team sucked, not just him. Mathematical statistics are facts. Determining his value is something the market will decide.

heatforlife

when ty is fresh he can get by anybody ive seen it all year.he was spent physicaly and mentally.his d was ok to bad for reg season but when teams go at him in the playoffs its hard to watch rc.if memory serves me correct he was injured for our playoff runs.u dont think gms take that into account body wearing down and eventually breaking rc.

SunManFromDogBone

Heat’s embarrassing playoff collapse reveals only 4 untouchables on the roster (allucanheat) There’s still a nucleus to build with for the Miami Heat, but an overhaul shouldn’t be off the table.

“Jimmy Butler is gone. He isn’t around to make a mediocre roster suddenly look like a contender come April anymore. However, they still have structure.

Coach Erik Spoelstra, although he had a rough year of his own, still remains arguably the greatest coach in the association. They have an All-Star caliber base to build around with Bam Adebayo and Herro and both are still under contract. Davion Mitchell’s re-signing will be a priority, and Kel’el Ware has the tools and potential to be a long-term starter.

Virtually everybody else on the roster, though, should be wondering about their future. There just isn’t enough talent. And there should be plenty of uncomfortable conversations held behind the scenes in the coming months.

At the same time, it could be much easier for a lot of the guys on the squad to play a more valuable role if there was another superstar in the picture. There will be plenty of disgruntled stars that shake free, with a trade market headlined by Kevin Durant and perhaps Giannis Antetokounmpo to come.

But that’s where the first major question will arise. Are the Heat willing to develop through the draft and with undrafted finds over the next few years in a soft rebuild? Or will Pat Riley put all his chips down to pursue one last title run in his final years?

As long as Riley is still involved, expect the latter. For an organization that stresses championships and culture, being a play-in team that annually gets bounced out of the first round isn’t enough. This season was clouded by peeling off a Butler-drama band-aid, but the struggle just to reach mediocrity in a wide-open Eastern Conference shouldn’t last.

Re-tool and come back stronger. The Heat have work to do.”

Hothothoopsfan4life

Lmao retool lmao where have we heard this before? Oh yeah same old same ol pat is here and he’s gonna go for the whale one last time damn where have I heard that before? Again like I said for that pick but obviously you are Nostradamus here. Definition of insanity oh forget it. Just go after the whale that won’t come, sign one middling FA and make a few minor roster changes and preach culture so we can get to our championship playin it’s your 3peat champions on the way

Um, you may want to take note of the quotation marks. SM didn’t write the above, only quoted it.

By George heat, I think my efforts and RC’s to get you to voice your criticism in a more constructive manner are finally breaking through.

SunManFromDogBone

I don’t always agree with everything contained in every article I post. I do it to provide different perspectives and let the readers form their own opinions. I didn’t write those articles, I simply posted them.

One draft pick acquired either this summer or next isn’t going to make a big difference in the grand scheme of things. If 2025-2026 is handled properly, Miami should be rid of almost all it’s excess baggage PLUS be in line for a lottery pick. That doesn’t include any additional draft picks acquired as a result of trades or cash that will be freed-up to recruit free agents. Meanwhile, the team should have an excellent opportunity to see the full potential of it’s younger players on rookie contracts and G Leaguers.

If anybody expects the Heat to turn this ship around next season, they are only fooling themselves.

SunManFromDogBone

Game 4 humiliation has Heat fans ready to ask the ultimate question (FANSIDED)The Pat Riley era could be over with the Miami Heat after suffering a first round low blow.

“The Heat — a team running on fumes after a tumultuous season — saw their 2024–25 playoff campaign end against the Cleveland Cavaliers in four games. Whether you want to call it a beat down or a sweep, Miami simply had no business being in this fight, entering the play-in as the 10th seed and clawing their way through with wins over the Atlanta Hawks and Chicago Bulls.

Perhaps a team so desperate to find its identity never truly found one to begin with. After all, fans had never seen such public tension between a player and an owner quite like what unfolded between Jimmy Butler and Pat Riley. Two individuals with conflicting agendas traded suspensions, fines, and subtle jabs on social media. Sooner rather than later, Butler was traded to the Golden State Warriors, and Riley had to come to terms with the one thing he’s never let a player do: win the war…

Players didn’t want Butler gone but found out on the bench, mid-game, that he had been dealt. Heat fans didn’t want to lose their team’s star power, but they were forced to endure the fallout. Spoelstra tying the worst record of his career wasn’t expected, but it’s now a mark on an otherwise sterling résumé. And all of these missteps share a common thread: Pat Riley had to get his way.

Maybe it’s time for the Heat to take a long, hard look in the mirror and ask themselves:

Is an 80-year-old team president the right person to shape the future?

Because if not, there might not be much of a future left.”

SunManFromDogBone

Bam Adebayo: “There’s going to be a lot of changes this summer. Just from my point of view, understanding how the guy with the silver hair (Pat Riley) works. Just be prepared for that.”

heatforlife

yeah your all talk bam w/o jimmy a phony max riley player.your effort son is pitiful at times.theres more there than your giving us.

SunManFromDogBone

For all his attributes, there are two things Bam is not, an alpha male and a closer. He is a good #3 or #4 offensive option and a #1 or #2 defensive anchor.

heatforlife

top 5 defender .joel anthonyish on offense

Reality Czech

You are really hysterical. Career 2/3/0, THAT Joel Anthony? As compared to 16/9/4/1/1? Just a little itsy bitsy exaggeration there. Okay, sure, I believe he should be at least 20/12/5.

heatforlife

hes not a natural scorer.of course hes not hands of stone but hes not even close to kat on offense.hes frustrating cause when the heat were on that win streak he was looking like he was goonna take that next level and after 2 weeks of teasing us back to usual bam.with alot of these players how bad do u want to be great is the difference between bam and the great ones.

Humiliating loss should lead Heat to question everything (YardBarker)
“The Heat embarrassed themselves on Monday, losing to the Cavs, 138-83, in one of the worst blowout losses in NBA playoff history. It was the sort of defeat that should make the organization question everything.

Miami couldn’t be bothered to try in the lopsided loss, trailing 43-17 at the end of the first. At halftime, the Heat were down by 39, 72-33, prompting Inside The NBA’s Ernie Johnson to blast the team, saying the first two quarters

  • “might be the worst game I’ve ever watched.
  • Charles Barkley responded: “Ernie, I try not to ever use the word quit or choke… This is quitting at its finest right here.”

While the Cavaliers (64-18) certainly deserve appreciation for handling their business and looking like the best in the conference, no team has any business being manhandled the way the Heat (37-45) were over the final two games. Miami became the first team to lose consecutive playoff games by 30 points after losing Game 3 by 37, 124-87. To make matters worse, both games were at home.

The way the Heat’s season ended, team president Pat Riley could have tough decisions to make this offseason. Anything should be on the table.
Head coach Erik Spoelstra has been in his role for 17 seasons, dating back to 2008-09. After suffering back-to-back humiliating losses, it’s fair to wonder if there’s a disconnect between the players and staff.

If Miami doesn’t have a viable path back to contention, center Bam Adebayo could net the team a substantial return in a trade. Guard Tyler Herro had a career-best season in 2024-25 and might be more attractive on the market than when the Heat tried to make him the crown jewel in trade proposals with the Trail Blazers for Damian Lillard in 2023.

While it’s too soon to say how much change will occur in South Beach, it’s coming. Teams don’t lose by 50 in their final game and have things stay the same.
The Heat’s Monday loss was arguably the most mortifying in franchise history. Depending on the offseason, it could also be the most consequential.”

Hothothoopsfan4life

When you gonna admit that instead of quitting during the playoffs that they should’ve quit during the regular season? You came up here clamoring for experience and ware Jaime pelle and jovic (save for that last game) weren’t gonna get playing time! It’s spos coaching he never lets rookies get trial by fire and something drastic has to happen for him to play rookies extended minutes, and it goes back decades with him bam, herro jjj etc etc. He’s stuck in his ways like pat is stuck in his ways, I’d trade bam Tyler for young pieces and or draft picks/expiring contracts. Go after hungry players like Quinton grimes (say what you want about him on a tanking team he gave that tanking team 120% effort since he got there and didn’t get the teams tank memo) see what Minnesota wants for naz Reid, pelicans should be blowing it up maybe see what they want for herb jones, trey Murphy, hey Detroit what you want for Ivey and Stewart? Houston whitmore Jabari or tari? Indy Neismith or mathurin are they apart of your future? Okc willing to give up jwill? But lemme guess we want to go whale hunting for someone that’s never gonna come (kd for the 4/5 time) or get talked into not coming here by members of the media or the league themselves (hello dame)

There you go again with your talk about quitting. Were you born a quitter or did life’s challenges turn you into one? If you are angry about my support for whale hunting, it’s obvious you haven’t read any of my posts before rendering your final judgement.

I’ve been suggesting that the best thing is for Riley to retire, Spo to be bumped up into his job and that Miami take a year off to get rid of several players on expiring contracts and buyout or trade others before the 2026-2027 season. Meanwhile, the team can continue developing it’s young players on rookie or two-way contracts, as well as this year’s and next year’s draft picks and look to recruit or trade for one or more players next summer who will make a difference. There are several all-stars/closers who will be entering free agency at that time. I see the team’s core as Bam, Herro, Ware and Mitchell. However, if the right deals come up, they are all expendable.

Your misconception that any of the players you mentioned would put a dent in the team’s downward trajectory without first cleaning house is delusional.

InsuranceMan

Dude what is your problem honestly. You’re just trying to antagonize people. Sunman isn’t in the front office nobody is a couple of us maybe selfishly wishing and couch commenting they don’t tank so we would have a few more games of entertainment influenced ZERO part of what happened. Shut up already

Hothothoopsfan4life

No Sunman isn’t in the FO so why do yall protect and listen to him like he is? It’s plenty of post where he contradicts himself post quotes of other people then go against what he just posted. Again plenty of times he’s contradicted himself and yall don’t call him out, except to run to his defense like yall in bed with him. He’s yo here calling me a quitter yet he doesn’t know me! Also like he didn’t watch them quit last night but that was better they did that last night with more eyes watching rather than doing it one game vs the bulls now you shut up

SunManFromDogBone

Bingo! I think I’ve found the root cause of your negative feelings.

Malicious Envy:
This type of envy is characterized by a negative emotional state, leading to feelings of resentment and a desire to bring down the envied person. It can manifest as attempts to undermine their success or even deriving pleasure from their misfortunes.

SunManFromDogBone

Thanks I-Man. Glad to see I’m not the only one getting tired of this loser’s negative attitude. Troll has nothing better to do. Must have a miserable life.

Reality Czech

*Quinton grimes (say what you want about him on a tanking team he gave that tanking team 120% effort since he got there and didn’t get the teams tank memo)*
I find it interesting that you indicate that you appreciate or respect a player who gave 120% effort even though he was on a losing/tanking team, but you were against our team doing exactly that.
I regret not getting the lottery pick. I also can appreciate that giving OKC and Charlotte unprotected picks in 2026 and 2028 could be a disaster if just one key player has a serious injury.

Hothothoopsfan4life

lol I wanted them to tank for that pick. See what I mean insurance man when I say he gets defended and never questioned lol that was Sunman against tanking RC not me go check my post if you will not once has those been wrote by me.

Reality Czech

I am not disagreeing. But isn’t the Grimes quote from you? That’s what I was referring to in my first paragraph. If that wasn’t originally from you, my bad.

Hothothoopsfan4life

That grimes post was me, I’m referring to some here who are against tanking that he gave his all on a tanking team. Again how did you get I was against tanking by saying he was on a tanking team? He was lmao

Reality Czech

I guess because you pointed out he wasn’t personally tanking on a tanking team. Seems like an admirable trait and someone you would want in a Heat uniform.

Hothothoopsfan4life

And for the record wanted him when he was on the Knicks

SunManFromDogBone

I was willing to accept the outcome of the play-in process either way. However, I wanted the players to feel they had a chance to compete to get into the playoffs if they did their best to win. I expected they would lose and Miami would get a 2025 lottery pick. That didn’t happen. The first round pick goes to OKC this year instead of next year. Big deal.

Bout30man

Your observations on players like Grimes, Reid, or Jones, are good ones, somewhat unsung but full effort players with some skills on both ends, players not unlike our Mitchell. Players like that could be a start towards upgrading our roster. Still, everything is so difficult from the hole we are trying to climb out of, with difficult players to move, apron issues, little draft capital, and we are now probably not a desirable landing spot. Even if we do focus on the right players, it’s hard to see how we can get them.
I guess I am saying that the Godfather has placed us into a special purgatory for failed non-tankers, locked into limited responses and trying to stay afloat but inevitably drifting into the lower depths of mediocrity without a clear path out of it.

Alaska Emily

Can I vote “incomplete?” Even when we had Jimmy, he was clearly half-assing it based on what we see him now doing in GS. Then we ran our locker room through a medieval vice for two months. Then we expected them to gel with essentially half of a new team, and we ran straight into the teeth of the biggest buzz-saw to hit South Florida since Hurricane Andrew, in the form of Max Strus.

Incomplete. We had three different seasons during the course of this season, and none of them made any sense.

SunManFromDogBone

Rather than grading the team/players, maybe we should be grading Riley, Spoelstra and Arison.

I Give Spo a solid DI give Riley an F-I give Arison an F for keeping Riley past his expiration date
Something has to change because this dog definitely “can’t hunt.”

a gm and about 12 players needed.bam ware only 2 guys id keep as starters get new coach to get these guys functioning together optimally keep.dav as a backup.rest of the bunch your not hunting antman steph and wembys with.we need 3 new starters and the bench needs to be athletic.until this happens we are now the washington bullets carolina panthers .guys like jovic PELLE JJJ cannot compete in todays nba just cant jump high enough run fast enough.if u want to be mediocre keep them pat

SunManFromDogBone

Basketball is not strictly a game of athleticism. Skill, experience, grit, determination, coachability, BBIQ and the ability to function unselfishly in a team setting are also very important. There’s a bunch of physically impressive specimens in the NBA today who lack one or more of these other qualities. Likewise, there are players who are not the most athletic who are effective and successful. Athleticism is most valuable when a player can use it on both sides of the ball.

P.S. Attitude is also very important in my book. I hate arrogant entitled players, I don’t care how good they are.

Reality Czech

He could simply draft or trade for 10 Harold Miners – super athletic, fast, high flying players.
You could not be more right. There are many good players who are not super athletes.

Alaska Emily

No, I meant what I said. Looking back at the season, the only real mistake is not paying Jimmy and/or not trading him earlier in the season when we could have gotten more value for him with better flexibility. Management miscalculated how he’d react, and miscalculated badly. Everything else is a direct result of that one decision, and amounted mostly to crisis management and choosing the least-bad from among a long list of bad options. This season is incomplete. There is not enough data to grade it.

SunManFromDogBone

Where I come from, you don’t give a raise person who is quiet quitting to the detriment of the team. You fire him Or, in this case, you ship his money hungry @$$ to BumF***.

heatforlife

incompetent wrong incomp

heatforlife

until the cleve series a c- after cleve series fplus.coaching doesnt matter spos a fraud pats over the hill.just get better players get ud and wade in front office.u think wade likes utah lol, wade and ud still have connections with current nba players.spider reminds me so much of wade that expression on his face is so dwadeish.

Iknowtoomuch

F !

Zac

Worst season in a decade. Making the playoffs only made the losing worse, by giving away a lottery pick.

Traded away a disgruntled star, for two bums who have locked up cap room for at least 2 years.

Add in the most lopsided playoff series in the history of the NBA and I don’t see how it’s anything other than a F.

If they had won 10 games, at least you could at you’d have the lottery pick to look forward to. Now we have an embarrassing roster, limited draft capital, no cap room.
