The Miami Heat play their second of five Summer League games on Sunday against the Cleveland Cavaliers, who are playing on the second day of a back-to-back.

Miami blew a 13-point fourth quarter league in their Las Vegas opener on Friday, losing 105-98. Though Kasparas Jakucionis was excellent, scoring 24 points on 7-of-12 shooting (5-9 3PT) with four rebounds, four assists and two steals. Other standouts include Pelle Larsson, Javonte Cooke and Vlad Goldin. Where the Heat really struggled was on the glass, getting out-rebounded by 16 (48-32), surrendering 20 offensive rebounds.

Cleveland will have its two most recent draft choices playing in Jaylon Tyson, who got little run last year, and second-round rookie Tyrese Proctor, who dropped to No. 49 overall. It lost its SL opener to Indiana (116-115) on Thursday before beating the Bucks (93-73) on Saturday.

Here is our gamethread below!

THE JONATHAN KUMINGA SITUATION (Paraphrased from Blue Man Hoop article)
Despite all the speculation, it appears that Miami will keep Wiggins throughout the summer and see how the team begins next season. Furthermore, it appears that Golden State will bring Kuminga back on a new contract and may reconsider a trade before the mid-season deadline.

Golden State would trade Kuminga straight up in a sign & trade for Wiggins today, if they could. However, because of base-year compensation rules, at present, Golden State can only take back 50% of Kuminga’s salary. However, that will change mid-season which will allow Golden State to consider various potential trade targets. That list could include Wiggins for Kuminga, if both teams are still interested.

To be continued…

The Rozier Situation

2025-2026 cannot be as bad for Rozier as 2024-2025 was. I think a large part of his subpar performance was due to the pressure he put on himself to perform beyond his ability. However, I believe the main reason he performed so poorly was his preoccupation with the FBI’s ongoing investigation of his potential involvement in point shaving/betting irregularities. Fortunately, he was cleared of any wrongdoing by the FBI late last month.

It’s looking like Rozier won’t be easy to trade, despite being on an expiring contract and being cleared by the FBI. If he can’t be traded now, perhaps he will be more marketable before/by the February trade deadline. If he can’t be traded by then, waiving and buying him out (on a 3 year pay-out schedule) may be the only viable solution.

When life gives you lemons…make lemonade

On the flip side of this situation, Rozier may return to camp with a clear head and a chip on his shoulder. If he plays at 80-100% of his ability, it may be worthwhile to include Rozier in the rotation. At worse, he will come back playing as poorly as he did last season and be relegated to the bench awaiting a trade or a buyout. At best, he could be a 6th man of the year candidate. We won’t know which “Scary Terry” we get…the scary good one or the scary bad one for a few months.

Meanwhile, all things considered, let’s reserve judgement on “Scary Terry” until at least training camp…if not longer. If he did nothing wrong, he deserves at least that much from us.

GO HEAT!!!

Pretty sad game. Ware looked better but still not playing anywhere near his potential. He needs to be more aggressive/physical on the boards. More like Bam, less like Olynyk. I saw a couple of plays where he turned spectator and made no effort on a rebound. He needs to fight for every rebound within his range and not just sit back and cherry pick. Btw, Heat got killed on the boards again (especially offensive boards 20-6 today and 20-7 last game).

Larsson and Johnson played so-so. Jakuciones reverted to his prior form. Glad it’s just summer ball. Overall, the team looked crappy. Larsson will out the remaining games. He’ll be preparing to play for Sweden in the EuroBasket Tournament in August-September.

This year’s coach is not as good as prior years. I bet Caron Butler would make a great summer coach. Maybe next year.

Oh well. Chalk another one up to experience…bad experience.

Onward and upward.

Got to stick up for Kaspar, he didn’t do too bad when in, was maybe the only one who looked to distribute. And Ware did ok at times, especially since he’s the only one going for rebounds as no one else boxed out. His effort was better than before.
OTOH, it’s the other players who aren’t good. This is the first time in awhile I watched Keshon and I found him not really that coordinated, hard to imagine him in the NBA. Pelle played bad too, forced things, showed limitations. The rest of them played like they were on the playground, no teamwork, just trying to drive and score, and usually not succeeding. None of them are likely NBAers.
If we are going to upgrade the Heat, beyond Kaspar and Ke’lel, it’s not coming from the SL or G League. Dru was a real anomaly, a G Leaguer who really was an NBAer. If he recovers fully he will help the team. Dunc and HH are others, but they are more fringe players. Players like Dru are so rare, so rare that we can’t keep thinking that we can look to the GLeague for help.

I couldn’t watch the whole game, because f***n NBA pass offers only games already ended or not starting yet. Complaining about it doesn’t makes sense, because the department for complains leads you to dead end making impression that they do everything to solve everything.

So I watched only yt highlights. It looks like the plan was the offensive game goes through frontcourt. Ware delivered, Johnson not.

Unfortunately, its guards game, so they lost.

I wonder why you had such problems with game pass. I watched a part of the game live without any issues. On the other hand you haven’t missed anything. It was a struggle to watch.

I wasn’t watching live. And location can be a problem too.

I think I know what your issue is. When you open a game, right under the video feed you have streaming options. Since you are not watching live, it will be pre-set to game recap. You have to click on the game recap and it will open the streaming options where you can choose all sorts of recaps, but on the right side you can switch to full game stream. You can definitely watch full games on game pass in Europe, I do all the time.

Yes, I tried that. Recaps were available, at least 5 of them, but I wanted full game, which wasn’t available on the right side.

It happened before, once or twice in regular season, but also twice out of four times during summer league.

I suppose they make those streams late in the night, and errors happens.
Its summer, so there is less people to do that.

Anyway, thank you, you are already helped me with this before, if I remembered it right. Do you live in Europe?

I have never had this issue. But I watched the Cleveland game live, so as you say it’s possible that they uploaded the full game with some delay. Anyway, you’re welcome. Yes, I believe we already discussed gamepass issues before. I guess I should ask nba to hire me as a gamepass tech support or at least give me a free gamepass subscription as a reward. Yup, fellow European Heat fan here, from Slovakia.

Two players, Ware and KJ, look like they belong in the league. Pelle maybe. Everyone one else marginal. Johnson, a player many feel has potential, if your going by this performance, seems overrated.

This what players picked in the teens twenties/2nd round and undrafted looks like complimentary inconsistent role players. Goes for bam and herro as well

Pelle, and a few others, having a tough time in this one. Tyson from Cleveland seems like best player on floor.

Offensive rebounds 13-3 Cleveland. You won’t win many games like that.

The Heat started playing better when KJ and Ware came in. Some of the other players were trying too much one on one, not enough passing or teamwork.

You want to see some improvement. None in a year, which is quite telling.
He wont crack the rotation playing like that, thats for sure.

Niko, Pelle, JJJ, Simone and HH offers much more.

I am okay with Ware missing some shots as long as he stays aggressive, which he has been so far today.

The game should be entertaining if nothing else. I’m hoping to see more, especially from Johnson and Ware.
