The Miami Heat have signed forward Nikola Jovic to a four-year, $62.4 million extension, ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania first reported Wednesday.
Jovic had until Oct. 20 to sign a rookie-scale extension, or else he would’ve played the final year of his rookie contract in 2025-26 before entering restricted free agency next summer.
The official numbers haven’t been disclosed yet. But assuming Jovic will have full eight percent raises year-to-year, Jovic’s starting salary, beginning in 2026-27, should be $13.9 million, roughly 8.4 percent of the salary cap.
He won’t make more than nine percent of the cap throughout the duration of his contract, which has the chance to be a huge steal for the Heat.
Jovic, 22, has only played 107 games in three seasons — largely due to injury (and head coach Erik Spoelstra not trusting him for the first half of 2023-24). Last season, he averaged 10.7 points, 3.9 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game, shooting 45.6 percent from the floor and 37.1 percent from 3-point range.
He is coming off his healthiest offseason as a pro, playing in EuroBasket alongside Nikola Jokic for Team Serbia. If he has any sort of injury luck, he should easily outplay this deal. The 6-foot-10 wing has developed into a very capable 3-point shooter, playmaker and play finisher in transition — while making considerable strides defensively.

Jovic! I’ve been rooting for him since we got him. He’s a big boy, now. For those wondering why we are paying him… He’s going to be a mismatch nightmare. He shoots threes, can get to the rim, plays defense, getting bigger and smarter. He’s a f’n gem.
By year 4, I hope his stats are 20ppg, 6rpg, 6apg, and 40% from 3 with better than average defense.
brothers will have alot to say about that.if he shoots as much as herro anythings possible, theyre not going to be baskets going to the rim better work on that j.when ty has fresh legs hes unguardable.problem is he wears down at end of year gets injured or spent.jovic not that type player.who can get to rim please watch the games sun.doesnt have good first step way to long to have tys quickness and tys handle.hes got a nice stroke so he needs to be a dunc 3 pt specialist and a magic jovison distributor.i think with pelles athleticism and dawg in him pelle will be the better player
While highlights only show us a player’s best moments, they still show snippets of actual gameplay. Maybe you should look at the highlights on the newer Jovic thread which shows he does have the ability to successfully get to the rim with some nice moves. To me, his issue is not about his talent, but more about his availability.
Love it. He just has to stay healthy and this deal will look like a bargain. So happy Niko gets to be a Heater for a few more years.
Yes, that’s what I feel too. He has pg/sg skills in a 6’10” body. Pretty unique and only 22.
magic jozicson
Close on the spelling, but, yeah, we can dream. But there was only 1 Magic. My 3 favorites, Magic, Wade, Zo.
your saying magic was once your fav player?were u once a lakers fan believe u lied in cali?i would say if jovic is close to kukocs level i would take that.
I was out in California for 4 years, 77-81, and became a Lakers fan just before Magic was drafted. Liked Kareem, Nixon, Wilkes also back then. But his rookie year, when he played all 5 positions, was the most amazing thing I ever saw. I became a Heat fan when they announced the awarding of the franchise.
For the record, I became a Dolphins fan long before I got here because I was a big Paul Warfield fan.
I think this is great news! Congratulations to our long term playmaker.
what have u seen to justify the contract.hes so inconsistent.any time goes to rim gets stripped.he better work on his shot.he cant get to rim.
