After emerging to first-time All-Star status and becoming the 3-point contest Champion a year ago, Heat’s Tyler Herro will NOT be participating in either this time around.

Tyler Herro has had an unfortunate 2025-26 season for the Miami Heat after having the best year of his young career just 12 months ago.

This time last year, Herro had ascended to first-time All-Star honors, representing Miami amongst the league’s best talents at All-Star weekend. He also secured a 3-point contest championship that same weekend. Herro joined Glen Rice, Jason Kapono, Daequan Cook and James Jones as the fifth Heat player to earn that title during the All-Star break.

Unfortunately, Herro has been shelved too much this season with injuries to build on that career year of his in 2024-25. The 26-year-old guard has appeared in just 11 of the team’s 51 total games thus far. He began this campaign sidelined after recovering from offseason ankle surgery. But since his return, Herro has been hit with both toe and now most recently, a rib injury. Outside of his lone All-Star year, the seven-year combo guard has dealt with an assortment of injury issues for the duration of his entire Heat career.

Ira Winderman of the Sun Sentinel recently stated that Herro will not be a participant to defend his title at the 3-point contest in the upcoming weeks:

“Sidelined Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro has bypassed an invitation to attempt to defend his 2025 championship in the 3-point contest during NBA All-Star Weekend, to instead focus on getting back on the court… Herro has prioritized a return to action.”

Herro’s recent rib injury has appeared to be much more serious than initially thought. He hasn’t appeared in a game for Miami since January 15, where he dropped 22 points in a loss to the Boston Celtics. He’s missed 10 straight games since and is on pace to appear in the lowest amount of games of his already injury riddled tenure for the Heat.

Pelle Larsson, who has developed into an impactful role player in his second season, has been the biggest beneficiary of Herro’s missed time this year in Miami’s rotation.

Herro’s newest return date to the court after missing more extended time is still unknown, but doesn’t appear to be any time soon.

Additionally, Miami is rumored to be shopping Herro on the trade market as Thursday’s February 5 trade deadline approaches— amid a looming contract extension eligibility coming up this summer. He is often linked as a headliner to a potential Giannis Antetokounmpo haul to be sent to his hometown Milwaukee Bucks.
