Bucks will not take Heat offer, will keep Giannis Antetokounmpo through deadline

With three hours left until the 2025-26 NBA Trade deadline, we now have a Giannis Antetokounmpo resolution.

He will not be a member of the Miami Heat by the time the 3 p.m. EST deadline arrives, with the Bucks deciding to keep him, ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania first reported Thursday.

The Heat and Timberwolves were firmly in the mix for Antetokounmpo, leading up to Charania’s most recent report. The Timberwolves pivoted Thursday morning by trading four second-round picks plus Rob Dillingham and Leonard Miller to the Chicago Bulls for Ayo Dosunmu, while the Heat were reportedly engaging with multiple teams attempting to improve their package.

Alas, it was not enough to convince Milwaukee — or Giannis, for that fact — to make a trade ahead of the deadline.

There is still time left until the deadline for the Miami Heat to pivot and make moves. There hasn’t been much activity in the hours leading up the deadline, suggesting that the rest of the NBA was awaiting the Bucks’ decision.

What are you expecting to happen? Let us know in the comments!

I’m waiting ten more minutes for the possibility of a late trade before posting this….

Well, that was exciting, not. Now we will hear why it was smart to do nothing now and wait for the offseason. And we will hear about the trades we pursued vigorously but didn’t want to stupidly give away assets that are just about to blossom into stardom. And we will hear about how this team is well poised to make a second half push up the standings. And maybe we will hear how we will be scouring the waiver wires for buyouts and that was the best thing to do at this time.

I don’t know how others feel, but I’m tired of the excuses. I’m extremely disillusioned and disappointed. I’m so upset it’s hard to even find the words to articulate my feelings. I only wish we had Bonki from my hockey blog to sic on Riley right now. He would tear Pat a new one and he would richly deserve it.

I will say this, how come everyone understands that if a player gets old that he loses a lot of what made him great but he still has an occasional good game or two even though most of the time he doesn’t do well anymore. And yet some still question whether Riley is over the hill. Just like we shouldn’t have paid Jimmy 100 million now, but five years ago would gladly have. Pat Riley is only working now because of nepotism, pure and simple.

I agree about Bonki. But, sometimes he is really funny, I mean hilarious, so mostly everyone gives him a pass. Also, no one wants him coming after them, but funny thing, he rarely does that.
I agree with a lot of your comments except I don’t have quite the heart anymore for the stop every effort at improving this team while we are whale hunting approach. It can go on forever. I hate to be sitting there this off season playing that game again. The biggest problem with that approach seems to be we may never have the assets to be the bride instead of the jilted one.

I know I sounded like an ass and I feel bad, but I felt compelled to say what I did. I even think it affected us today. Just like noone wants old Jimmy and his 100 mill contract, no one wants Ty and his thirty million plus contract. This is the third time we put him out there, for Dame, Demar, and now Giannis, and noone wants him. No one will want Jovic and his contract either. You can’t move these guys.

That’s me rec-ing you. Good one! No hard feelings. I know we disagree a lot, but I do want to get along. I admit I was feeling vulnerable yesterday because I espoused my very controversial theory and it’s never received well. And maybe there are some things more important than winning.at all costs.

This was the first time I can remember that I just didn’t have faith in the front office to get the deal done. Even last summer, I thought they were going to get Durant. But they’ve struck out enough times in the past few years that I’m starting to lose faith.

Hopefully they get Ja in the next hour and change my mind

“It has been a rough market for Ja, and there’s no signs that’s changing.”

Per MacMahon

Maybe waiting until Grizz get desperate. Who knows. One hour, though teams can go past it if actively negotiating, like the year Heat got Oladipo.

**Edit add: He said a team that has been talking and linked to Ja, my guess is it could be the Heat, said they would have to be incentivized by Memphis to take him, so add a pick. lol wow

It’s no fun going thru the process each time and then getting nothing. It gets harder each time to believe and we all have been thru it now maybe five times over the last few years. Let’s hope we get some good news in the next forty minutes.

Frustrating for sure. Was hugely disappointed in not just taking the lottery position last season that Dallas subsequently got. Beyond stupid. More stupid would be drafting Achiewa over Maxey. Why take a player whose average skills overlapped half the team vs a scoring point guard who would’ve shown Lowry the exit door ? I could go on ad nauseum…yeah there’s been some hits along the way – just like every team has experienced. The latest turd is the Jovic extension. It’s certainly been a very active trading period and like many of you are hoping Riley just doesn’t shit his pants again

Yes, if a ledger was made of good moves to bad tracking every move, including pursuits that led to nothing and also times when everyone else was making trades where we sat on our hands, and also including contracts given out, I think it would show some good moments but overall would not be very impressive. But, that’s just over the last few years and even that script can be changed in the next thirty minutes.

What is happening with Wiggins? What is happening with Powell? What is happening in general? If Phoenix can turn their ship around in one season, wtf is Miami doing wrong? This team needs an enema…starting at the top.

They went all in on Giannis. We’ll see whether they have a plan B. To be honest, I think the plan B is try to get Giannis in thr offseason. But if the Bucks didn’t like the offer now, I doubt the Heat will be able to give a better one in the offseason. But it seems neither Giannis nor Bucks know what they want.

Giannis being diplomatic and not demanding did not help. There is a report where the Bucks might sit him the rest of the year. I can’t imagine him being happy about that, so he really should have caused a stink. Not Jimmy level stink, but at least a light kerfuffle.

We had a player do that, to try and end up in Miami. He didn’t either. Dame did his best to force the Blazers hand, and it didn’t work. I think the Heat lacking assets (as they did during the Dame request), is the problem.

I didn’t mean try to force his way here, just be more vocal about being traded in general. Didn’t mean Bucks would take the Heat’s offer but it would have put them in a spot to make a decision now.

Also, plenty of national writers and NBA people thought the Heat’s offer was great. I was around other blogs and fans also agreed, so it wasn’t lacking assets. Now what it might be is they want all those Warriors picks as they will more than likely be very high once age catches up.

I believe the Heat gave the best offer they could, as did the other teams. But, none of the offers were overwhelming for a player of Giannis’s quality and age. But, on some level I believe the Heat are lacking in assets, and may not even have enough to wow the Bucks in the offseason. They will have the Rozier situation clarified. And, some of our assets are not as coveted by other teams as much as perhaps some writers believe. .

That is the problem and will remain the problem. The offers, not just the Heat’s, which may have been the best, but all of them, were underwhelming. I think that’s how the Bucks saw it. That’s why I was hoping they get Ja. He’s the only potential superstar they could get that we have the assets for. Yes, he comes with risk, which is why the price is low.

Just get Ja and get the Heat out of the play-in

Zac

Winning the play-in game, to get destroyed in the first round, has set this franchise back a decade.

Riley/Andy/and the ownership – don’t know how to operate in the modern NBA.

They don’t value cap space. They don’t value draft picks. They over pay the own players. They fight for mediocrity over and over, rather than tanking.

The Bucks will end this year, with Giannis, a higher draft pick than Miami, less cap space committed to the future.

Why would the off season pursuit of Giannis be any different? The Bucks are set-up better for next year than Miami is.

Tbh I’m cool with the no tanking.
Doesn’t mean I think this team can find that thing it needs internally.

I mean at some point either Micky needs to fire the FO, or the FO needs to tank. That or we can enjoy being a .500 team forever.
