Heat’s Keshad Johnson wins 2026 NBA Dunk Contest

A new dunk contest champion was crowned on Saturday night, and for the fourth time in NBA History, it was a Miami Heat player.

Heat second-year forward Keshad Johnson took home the award, besting Spurs rookie Carter Bryant in the final round.

Johnson’s final round score (97.3) bested Bryant’s (93.0), even though Bryant recorded a perfect 50 for one of his dunks. Johnson capped the event with a near-free-throw line windmill.

Johnson becomes the first Heat player since Derrick Jones to win the dunk contest. The only other Heat player to take home the dunk contest was Harold Miner — who won the award twice in 1993 and 1995.

Miami has now taken home hardware for the second consecutive All-Star Saturday. Last year, Heat guard Tyler Herro won the 3-point contest. This year, the Heat’s high flyer wins the dunk contest.

I don’t agree with this guy on much. However, I think he is making sense on this issue.

Thanks for posting. He speaks with great reverence and has no desire to criticize. And yet, here he is, one of the experts, and he also is saying things that are similar to how many, but not all, of us Miami fans are seeing things

It could be helpful. The last couple of years has been done by committee. Another strong voice couldn’t hurt.

Is it just me, or what?

Does it seem like Riley and Spo are both “slipping.” It seems as though they are both having difficulty keeping up with the rapidly changing NBA.

Bout30man

Not sure about Spo. He’s a company guy. Not sure he has total free rein.

Maybe. Maybe it’s just me, but Spo hasn’t seemed to be the same coach since the quitter fiasco began.

We’re still a top five defense. The offense without a single top 30 player (according to the ringer) is 17th. And they play to that ranking too–up and down and very little consistency as a unit.

Spo needs to let Ware and Bam figure it out on the court. He tends to trust lineups to figure it out when they’re struggling a little too long.

But I’ll be fine with this exact version of Spo retiring from the game as head coach of the Heat.

Congratulations keshad, he danced more in this contest, then the pt he got this year. I hope he danced his way into some rotation minutes. I hope this opens spo eyes, he could be more helpful then jovic.

Unpopular opinion around here for sure, but this boy is just not talented enough to be a NBA player nowadays. 10 years ago, maybe, but not today. I m saying the same for Goldin.

I wish it could be different.

To avoid Nico rant, I do think that Johnson should play Nicos minutes right now.

Nico has talent to contribute, but he doesnt, Johnson doesnt have enough talent to contribute a lot, but at least he tried. Which is better right now.

I’m going with the one who tries.
Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not: nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not: the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.

BTW, that “boy” is a full-grown man and “boy” is a a derogatory term.

The term “boy” has historically been, and in some contexts continues to be, used by white individuals—particularly in the United States, South Africa, and other formerly colonized regions—as a derogatory, condescending, and infantilizing address toward African-American and Black men.

Historical Context (Slavery/Jim Crow): White Southerners and slave masters used “boy” to address Black men of any age to imply they were inferior, subservient, or less than human. It was used to deny them the respect accorded to white men, functioning as a “ritual humiliation”.

Me too.

I remember now that in some movies about slavery a term “boy” was used.

I suppose use “kid” instead of “boy” would be better.

My English is what it is, so Mea Culpa.

I understand the language thing. I often refer to a young man as a kid. That’s only because I am an old man and anyone under 40 is a kid.

The stings of slavery and the Jim Crow era are still felt in America after all these years. You would need to live here to understand. It is especially disturbing when some folks in Washington are currently trying to turn back the the clock to the “good ol days” as it pertains to the rights of women, minorities, gays, immigrants, etc. I was happy to see the European leaders speak out against current U.S. policies this past weekend.

Never heard of Jim Crow till today. I took a look, I should know about that.

There is nothing positive to be said about European leaders. But since Greenland thing they finally gets what is the sentiment among people here about US behaviour, and act accordingly. That’s all.

If one think which is in common to the majority here, nobody wants here what is happening in US right now.

Most of the people here don’t want it either, including a large percentage of the people who voted for it.

I don’t agree. Not saying he could start or even be first off the bench, but no reason he couldn’t be an 8 or 9 player on the team.

No reason but to have a young player with more upside at 8-9 position.

After last year summer league, where there were no improvement after being 2 years in the league, I have no doubts. He had his chance.

If Jovic has had 4 seasons to prove himself, why shouldn’t Johnson? His contract is cheap enough. Same with Gardner.

vagibugi
vagibugi

Because of lack of talent. Its just not there.

You cant play ball those days, if you are not polished finisher, good shooter and decent distributor.

Gardner is a keeper, no doubt about it.

That puts Jovic and Johnson in the same boat, except one of them has a $62.4M contract.

They would be in the same boat, if somebody wouldn’t give Jovic that contract. End of the bench players on their way out of the league.

If nothing else, there is a reason, that Keshad plays not only behind Jovic, but also behind Pelle And Simone. If nothing else, coaches believes, that those two brings more then him on the court.

He is with the heat for two years. He is essentially the same player today, or at least he was in the summer league. No improvements whatsoever.

He is just another one trick pony from Heats stable. The one named Dunc learned another trick, and lived happily ever from then. The one named Keshad had troubles to learn another one. The one named Nico knows a lot of them, but the show is terrible, because he cant execute any of them as he should.

Give this guy Jovic’s minutes to start. He’s physical and athletic as – – – -. While you’re at it give him an extension like Dru’s. P. S. Send Jovic to G League immediately!
