Bam Adebayo etches his name into basketball history in Heat’s 150-129 win over Wizards

The Miami Heat just won their sixth straight game, but that’s the least bit of news amid Bam Adebayo’s immortal second-highest scoring night in NBA history with 83 points. (Photo via Complex/IG)

Yes, the Miami Heat’s recent success in the win column improved to a six-game winning streak and winners of nine of their last 11 overall Tuesday night over the visiting Washington Wizards. They have also improved to a 37-29 overall record and sit in sole possession of the sixth seed in the East and officially outside of the play-in picture for now.

But the win alone is the least bit of news on the night.

Instead, it’s all about Bam Adebayo.

In what will go down as the greatest individual performance that millions of NBA fans will ever witness, Adebayo put the entire basketball world in a chokehold by submitting the second-highest scoring game in basketball history.

The All-Star big man totaled a career-high 83 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 blocks and 2 steals on 20 of 43 shooting overall (47%). This performance went much deeper than just Heat history after halftime. Adebayo now trails only Wilt Chamberlain for the greatest scoring outing of all-time. He surpassed Kobe Bryant’s 81 points with just under a minute left to go in the game.

For a guy that came into the league as just a defender and lob threat, this game was a testimony of Adebayo’s growth, work ethic and leadership since becoming a part of the Heat organization. The captain is now forever immortalized with a feat that will go down as the single greatest game of his career and the history of Miami sports. There were levels to this, and it was evident early on that this random March Tuesday night game had much more significance on the table than just getting a win.

Adebayo scored more than half of the Heat’s total points in the 150-129 victory over Washington, with the second leading scorer being Simone Fontecchio’s 18 points off the bench. In the midst of all the Adebayo madness, Miami surpassed their highest scoring game as a team for the 2025-26 campaign. The Heat outscored Washington by 20 points in Adebayo’s 42 minutes.

Coach Erik Spoelstra knew how much history was on the line and never interfered with taking the superstar out of the game even with a 20-point lead in that fourth quarter. This was a game that simply went deeper than basketball itself— for Adebayo, for the Miami Heat franchise, for the city of South Florida and even for the NBA as a whole.

March 10, 2026 will never be forgotten for every bit of Heat Nation.

What a performance by Bam! Just incredible. And this write-up is worthy of the historical significance. Good job Dan.
But, I want to focus on another player who is quietly doing very well lately as he grows into his game. Kaspar has been doing better and better to the point now where you feel comfortable he will acquit himself well when he is on the court.,The numbers may not reflect it, but his efficiency has been a real plus. He is steady, and self-less, as he functions mostly only as a distributor, although his three ball can be deadly. I just like the way he does the little things and lets the game come to him. He will be fun to watch as he continues to improve.

Kudos to Bam for an outstanding performance. By far the best single game point total by any NBA player this year and second all-time only to Wilt Chamberlin’s 100 points on March 2, 1962 (64 years ago)! Great to see him grab the reins and take control of the game and the team.

Bam, Herro, Powell, Wiggins, Mitchell, Jaquez, Ware and Larsson may be one of the best 8 man rotations in the NBA. In addition, Miami has Smith, Fonteccio, Gardner, Jakucionis, Johnson and Jovic waiting in the wings.

Miami is now tied with Toronto for 5th place, 3.5 games behind 4th place Cleveland and 4 games behind 3rd place New York. Who would have thought that possible just one month ago.

GO HEAT!

Heat are actually #1 in ppg now just over Denver at 120.6. But they are also #1 in pace (103.8 possessions per game) so the efficiency is lower at 116 points per 100, or the #13 offense. An average offense/defense is 115. Denver is the #1 offense at 121

Heat are still the #4 defense at 112.2, really an impressive achievement playing fast and still being a defensive team

Given their point differential/net rating the Heat are projected as a 50 win team. The expected wins at this point in the season are 40.7 but actual wins are only 37. Could be a sign they are better than their current record

DET outscored BKN by +40 in the paint tonight, after losing to Miami in the paint -2. Bam’s 24/9/6 vs Duren was a precursor to this game
