Heat secure final road win of season in Wizards rout

Even without two of their top scorers, the Miami Heat cruised to a 140-117 win over the unabashedly tanking Washingtyon Wizards in their final road game of the season on Friday.

Miami, who already clinched its fourth-straight play-in berth earlier this week, completed its season sweep over Washington, who has now lost 64 games in three-straight seasons, the first NBA team in history to ever accomplish that feat.

Miami either led or was tied with Washington for all but 24 seconds in the blowout victory, led by Pelle Larsson and Simone Fontecchio, who scored 24 points apiece. Fontecchio shot 6-of-8 from 3-point range, while Larsson was 8-of-14 from the floor and 7-of-8 from the free-throw line. Larsson also had six steals in 27 minutes.

Bam Adebayo had 20 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists. It was another phenomenal performance against the shorthanded Wizards for the three-time All-Star, who scored 83 points against their Southeast divisional foe last month.

Yes, we’re going to keep reminding you — and everyone else — of that. Wilt, Bam, Kobe; learn it, live it, love it.

Jaime Jaquez Jr. poured on 23 points on a very efficient 10-of-14 from the floor and 3-of-4 from 3-point range, where he’s gained more confidence over the last six or so weeks. He also tallied four rebounds with eight dimes.

Pending a win on Sunday against the Atlanta Hawks and a loss by the Charlotte Hornets to the New York Knicks, the Heat can still earn the No. 9 seed in the East. Although that’s the highest it can finish, meaning they will have to win two more games once again to make the playoffs.

Practically every team in the NBA beat up on the Wizards this regular season, the Heat included. In their four wins, they outscored Washington by an average of 22.8 points. The games were completely non-competitive, for better or worse.

Miami’s season finale will be Sunday at 6:00 p.m. EST inside Kaseya Center. They won’t be the only team playing for something (Atlanta still must clinch No. 5 seed), so don’t expect it to come easy.

This game is not worthy of much discussion as the Wizards are functioning not unlike the Washington Generals. So, this is a fine time to say thanks to you, Matt, and the other writers, who make this site so much fun to be part of. You guys really do a great job. I do appreciate that you all tell it like it is with honest, unbiased commentary.
