LeBron James reunion with Heat gains steam after latest reports

Over the weekend, the LeBron James return to the Miami Heat noise gained some significant traction.

Initially, it’s been an intriguing idea that is really just fun to think about. But now, it’s becoming a real possibility. In fact, Miami would be one of the “top suitors” alongside the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers if negotiations between James and the LA Lakers turn sour, according to Lakers’ reporter Jovan Buha.

James is currently an unrestricted free agent for the first time since 2018. It still remains unclear whether Los Angeles have genuine interest in bringing James back, though it was reported from ESPN’s Shams Charania that they have yet to present any offer at all to the star forward.

Additionally, it’s also unclear what James’ intentions are himself for likely his final major career decision before retirement.

Miami could offer him their full $15 million mid-level exception along with the pitch of a full circle, storybook ending alongside a Giannis Antetokounmpo-Bam Adebayo core with championship aspirations.

The Heat will “absolutely explore” adding LeBron this summer.

Heat insider Ethan Skolnick of 5 Reasons Sports recently iterated that a reunion with James is something Pat Riley and the front office would pursue.

“I can tell you that it is something they will explore. I do know he (James) has no hard feelings against the organization. I do know that for sure. That’s been the case for years…“

There is a history here. He has a longtime relationship with coach Erik Spoelstra and would be comfortable in the system here. Miami is the place that not only James became a champion, but it’s the place that he was the most successful— with two of his four rings to show for repping a Heat jersey.

Additionally, the on-court fit is exactly what this team is searching for with James’ passing ability, basketball IQ and leadership. He is still an elite playmaker that can make the games easier for Antetokounmpo and Adebayo.

Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson noted that although speculation continues to swirl about James’ potential interest in returning to South Florida, it is “not something that has been actively pursued by James to this point.” But, Miami indeed “very likely would explore if James decides to pursue it.”

So as fun as it is to dream about, as mentioned, nobody knows the intentions this summer of either the Lakers or James yet ahead of Tuesday’s opening of free agency.
