So, LBJ will not decide in days, rather in weeks.
Why shouldn’t inform the old goat that we are not interesting?

There is a good chance that he will turn the next season into circus,
and the ring hunt into hunt for money.

I mean beggars can’t be choosers. Miami needs whatever talent they can get. Getting held hostage by the decision might be an issue for other teams, but Miami basically can only offer minimum deals anyway. Doesn’t hurt them to wait, as much as a team like the Warriors who could offer full MLE to someone else.

If we are talking weeks, not days, I do believe it definitely hurts. In the past, it left us with players like McBob, Napier, Dedmon, and Zellers of the world. If we can add players like Beal, DeRozan, Westbrook (no rush on Middleton), they should do so sooner rather than later after waiting several more days for King James to make his decision.

I don’t think chasing LeBron is going to prohibit Miami signing guys anyway. They are in the same pattern with or without LeBron. Waiting on guys like Beal to decide to accept league minimum deals anyway.

There is Bam, heart of the team. There is Giannis, an MVP, use to have his own team and be no 1. And there is LBJ, fresh from Hollywood, to document his last season with documentary or even live episodes. Where do you thing basketball comes in?

I’m not saying LeBron will be the greatest signing, but if you are trying to compete for a title is Hollywood Bron really less valuable because of outside noise than washed Middleton?

Only so many players gonna accept league minimum, if LeBron is one of them, great. If not, great. Waiting doesn’t change a thing.

I partially disagree. We have lost out on desirable players in the past. Will some be available? Sure. But others who might be exactly what we need may be gone.

I mean could be other factors. I’m not saying it’s not some prideful thing that he’s enjoying, but maybe family matters? Maybe he’s trying to see what these teams do to fill out their rosters in the mean time? Could be other factors. Dudes a billionaire why can’t he make his own schedule?

Come on. He needs weeks to discuss matters with his family? One week, maybe. And, yes, he can do whatever he wants to. Doesn’t mean that we have to kiss his butt.

He’s done this for each and every free agency of his career basically. Did it to Pat when he went back to Cleveland. Did it to Cleveland with the decision. LeBron is all about LeBron, and why not? How many 41 year olds have 25% of the NBA begging for their services? How many 41 year olds can still play at a level capable of winning games in the playoffs.

I for one think LeBron has been the face of the league for the better part of two decades, if he wants to play these dumb games? Who cares, no one has stepped up in that time to take the spotlight away from him.

He screwed our team in the past. We should learn from that. He can do whatever he wants, doesn’t mean we have to play his game.

Shams is saying LeBron is choosing between Twolves, Nuggets, Warriors, 76ers, Cavs and Heat.

Or 25% of the league. I guess the other 24 teams can continue in free agency, while these 6 teams are held hostage by the fourth decision.

Still amazing that a 41 year old run the NBA like this. Good for LeBron.

If Riley had spread Wiggins’ contract out evenly over 3 years instead of front loading it, Heat could have about $10M more this year to pay the MLE.

Don’t think it was Riley’s choice. Think Wiggins informed them that he was opting in.

Why they extended him beyond that is what’s insane to me. The cap flexibility in future years might be more valuable than Wiggins.

Year 2 will be one of the best bargains in the league next season and very easy to trade for assets.

Wiggins knows what it takes to win championships. My assumption is that Giannis will take a bit less than the full super max in January, letting Miami see exactly what the team needs for the 27/28, and opening some avenues up for the trade deadline when Wiggins’ contract value declines and better players could* be available.

Reality Czech

Wiggins won one title. He played well in that run, but come on. Know how to win? That title experience didn’t do much these last two seasons.

Wiggins can still opt out and have his new 3 year contract equally divided over 3 years instead of having it front loaded. Otherwise, Miami can still trade him.

The point is, he opted in. Maybe Miami couldn’t convince him to opt out. If he had opted out? Maybe Miami moves own with that money. Who knows. Didn’t happen.

I know, meaningless games, but first installment of players that were available at 13.
Yaxel – 19/5/6/1/1 4/4 3p. 4 to.
Cam Carr – 19/2/1 5/11 3p.

I mean it’s summer league. Stats don’t matter so much as much as how players look. Most of the guys in these games will never make it.

But I’m still a bit sad that instead of building a team to compete in the future for the long term, we’re spending the off season trying to figure out what past their prime stars will take league minimum to fill the spots we need.

They may well win a title with Giannis and I’ll be as ecstatic as I was for the previous ones, but still feels like while we are better with him, we’re still looking up at a bunch of teams.

Reply to  Reality Czech

Oh come on. That was a legit beef. You can appreciate both the great move with Giannis and still rue the day he paid a bag to Niko. It’s hard to not look at that contract and not think that if we had that money we could have had a lot better team right now.
Let’s hope, in the iconic words of Tom Hanks in Saving Private Ryan, that Niko, “Earn(s) this.”

It’s not whether that is a legitimate point or not. At the time that we got Giannis, there was nothing but unadulterated joy, saying how great it was, saying that we were relevant again, who has a better fc than us, and saying we were legitimate contenders again. Now it is we can’t win with Bam as number two, we can’t win without Powell, and back to Riley should be fired. If things don’t go well with Giannis, I think all the complaining will be the same as it ever was, possibly not only with him. If the team does not win a championship in these next three years, that trade will have been a huge failure.

Bout30man

I understand your side of it too. I want you to know, as formerly one of the biggest Riley critics, I know I won’t be going to the Riley should get canned line of thought if this Giannis acquisition doesn’t yield as dramatic of returns as we hoped.

First, no matter what, Giannis will bring far more excitement than anyone we had before and you have to give Pat credit for trying. Second, things may get better by year two, so we need to reserve judgement till then. And three, we still fixed some of the redundancy in our line-up.

And for me, and maybe even only me, the fact that we don’t look like the Lakers (sans their superstars) of the East anymore, is a big deal. I was tired of rooting for a team built like that, and more tired of talking about it. For me, no matter what happens going forward, I feel like I’m rooting for a normal NBA team now.

I was not one denigrating Riley. The Giannis trade was the biggest offseason gambit. For who Giannis is, and getting Portis, made for a reasonably fair trade. I am a Giannis fan.
I find it equally exciting to see a team made up of young players who build chemistry and improve each season as I am to see a team become competitive by adding a superstar.
One of the few serious rifts between us is my strong disagreement that racial makeup of a team determines its success. For as many times you wrote that you would not bring it up again, you did exactly that time and again. You say you were tired of talking about it, I was at least as tired reading it. The Lakers, as mentioned, will put both our theories to the test. Mine was it is about quality, not color. Do I think the Lakers will be in the wcf? No. Do I think they’ll be a very competitive team as long as Luka stays healthy? Absolutely.

Bout30man
Reply to  Reality Czech

I think the Lakers will be good too. And, I agree, it is about quality, and a quality level the Heat never had. If a Bird/McHale Celtics era team can ever happen again, this version of the Lake Show is the true test of our theories. And remember, it’s a truly integrated team like the seventies Celtics were, half white, half black.
But, I have always taken the decidedly un-pc position that when you have six players who are white, in basketball it gets harder to achieve a high level of success. I am only bringing it up again in response to you and yes, to bravely express that much maligned opinion. The numbers do matter as it’s not only about quality.
We shall see how the Lakers do this season. If they only get past the first round with high quality players like Doncic and Reaves, a promising rim deterrent in Kessler, and contributions from Sandro, LaRivia and Knecht, it will say a lot. It’s a fair test as the supporting cast of black players is fairly good too.
Let’s circle back to this in eleven months and have one last discussion. For now, the Heat have Pelle, Simone, and Niko, and perhaps Goldin. I have no issues with our racial make up anymore. So, from now on, I really won’t comment on this anymore and will revert back to my more natural relationship with my favorite team, cheering them on.

I agree. Riley should ask LeBron’s agent for a yes or no answer by Monday because Miami can’t continue waiting until it is out of options or it will harm the team. If no, Riley should immediately proceed to recruit the best players available that can help the team. Here’s a few players I believe are still unsigned. There should be at least 2 in the bunch the Heat can use.

Beal
Westbrook
Trent
Yabusele
Jones, Ty
Clarkson
Middleton
Brown, Bruce

He needs to slow down and let the game come to him. He tries to do everything all at once. He has potential but he’s just too wired up to play consistent minutes. If he had the maturity of Jakucionis, he could work himself into rotation spot in the future. Actually, that is also Jovic’s problem.
