Some Miami Heat breaking news came via a Shams Charania report on Friday evening with Pelle Larsson agreeing to a new four-year $60 million contract extension.
Larsson emerged as a key rotation piece and underrated role player last season for Miami. He is coming off averages of 11.4 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.4 assists on 48% shooting while also leading the team in charges drawn.
Miami made it a point to hold onto Larsson as one of their only development pieces remaining in their early summer Giannis Antetokounmpo blockbuster. He is a two-way physical wing capable of playing either guard or forward positions and primed to continue improving in the Heat’s system.
The 25-year-old third year wing earned opportunities last year, most notably by stepping into coach Erik Spoelstra’s starting lineup in place of injured Tyler Herro or Norman Powell. Larsson was a second-round draft selection find by Adam Simon and the crew in 2024.
This new deal comes out to an average of $15 million annually over the next four years, just a couple million above the non tax-payer midlevel exception price tag.

Sounds like it is win/win at $15.M re: Pella. Only time will tell which one develops into a better all around player. For now, he’s a bargain. Jaquez should get $20M – $25M per.
Both winning players and good deals from the team side. The key number for Ausar is 109.7, Detroit’s defensive rating last year. They won 60 games with Cade + the #2 defense in the NBA and Ausar was the key to their defense.
Half price for Pelle, any day!
Both “team friendly” deals, Pelle below the MLE is surprising, he can opt out in year 4. Ausar at 15% of the cap for 5 years, no options is also a really good deal for Detroit from the team side, they only put guaranteed money on the table when its an underpay.
Crazy good value for the Heat to have Larsson and Wiggins making around $30m combined next year, this shows why they frontloaded Wiggins extension this year.
The MLE is 9.12% of the salary cap per year, this deal is actually less than the MLE going forward. MLE will be a projected 16m next year and increasing each year as the cap increases.
Pelle gets comparisons to Josh Hart here who is looking at 20m per year. I love Hart’s game, think Pelle has more potential in terms of shot creation. I thought 20 would be the number, a below MLE deal is a big discount IMO.

Good move. Now if he and Jovic can play up to their contracts, that would be great.
Before you start ragging on him, remember, his extension doesn’t kick in until next year. If he can improve his 3 point shooting by then, he should be a lock as a starter down the road.
Jovic needs to get his game together now. If he is able to do so beginning this season, I can see him and Pelle being big contributors for years to come. The same with Mitchell. They all have higher gears they haven’t hit yet
I’m really looking forward to this season and seeing these guys gel as a team. Their defensive potential is tremendous and their offense shouldn’t be lagging far behind, especially if Spo lets the horses run.

The likelihood is there will be no major trade or changes until possibly the trading deadline. Here’s a crazy suggestion – why not wait until the season starts and we get 20-25 games in so you can see how and if things are working, rather than making judgments even before we get to training camp? I think they will be.

You can see and accentuate the positives more than the negatives, or at least be equal. I wasn’t on the bandwagon to give away so many assets initially, but I did see the positives, and I see more now. I always liked Giannis. I was glad we got Portis too. I think Klay is a solid fit (and a much better fit than DD specifically for 3 point shooting). I think we will see improvement from both Pelle and Mitchell. I am happy that the team has retained and added young players – Pelle, Gardner, Conwell, Donaldson, Keshad, and, yes, Jovic. This team is very good and has a shot to be special even, imo, if they don’t add another player. I’m looking forward to the season. First preseason game in 2 weeks. I’m excited.

I agree about KD. I don’t think you are giving the defense enough credit. I can’t think of a starting 5 better defensively than the Heat. (Mitchell, Larsson, Wiggins, Giannis and Bam. Most teams have 1-2 guards that are mediocre or worse than average defenders..

Some people see what you obviously can’t. But the only thing he’s shown in 4 years is potential, and you don’t win games or get minutes with potential. He has to execute. As a 6’10” point forward who can handle, pass, and shoot, he can be a real asset to the team as a player and as a trade chip IF he puts it together. I know that’s a big IF, and if he fails to show anything this season, all the non believers will have been correct.

Jovic should play better this year. He won’t be forced to play out of position now, and with JJJ, he should have a more defined role. Plus he has the gravity of Giannis to play off of now, similar to playing with Jokic in international play. No excuses for him this year though.

Jovic is only 23, a year younger than Lendeborg. By year since his rookie year he’s played 5%, 23%, 29%, 21% of the Heat’s available minutes. Minutes trending up until last year, was supposed to be his breakout year as a full-time starter, didn’t happen and it was a lost year but only one season.
Hopefully, he comes into camp with his head and game together. No mas drama!

Congrats to Pelle. And this contract is, in my opinion, a very astute move by the front office in buying in on a player who showed enough in year one to justify their faith. BTW, I never offered similar sentiments at this moment for a previous contract offer that was very much like this one.
I say that for the record because we all have been posting for years now and we pretty much know each others thoughts on most players. I just want to be on the record that I endorsed this move.
