The Miami Heat will be getting back a key piece to their lineup Monday night against the Los Angeles Clippers, the second night of a back-to-back.
After missing three games with a groin strain, guard Norman Powell will make his return, the team officially announced moments before Monday’s contest.
Powell, 32, is averaging 24.0 points, 7.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists and two steals in three games. He’s shooting 47.7 percent from the floor, 50.0 percent from 3-point range and 91.3 percent from the free-throw line.
He has been one of their most effective offensive players very early on the season. Powell’s an exceptional shotmaker, a good slasher and a strong connective playmaker. He’s also held his own defensively, which is a big reason why they’ve looked jelled on both ends in his minutes.
Ironically enough, his return will be against his old team, who traded him to the Heat in March in a three-team trade. The Clippers acquired John Collins and, eventually, Bradley Beal as part of a separate transaction to help replace Powell.
